Just announced another music festival (hopefully in addition to Forecastle) at Churchill Downs this summer, July 23-25. Headliners are Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and DMB. Not a real exciting lineup (although Black Crowes, G Mule, and 65 other bands) but good for my city!
The home of the Kentucky Derby will become a stomping ground for Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and other music stars during a three-day festival that organizers hope will become as renowned in music circles as the Run for the Roses is in horse racing, officials said Monday.
The "HullabaLOU Music Festival" "Our goal ... will be to make this music festival to the music festival business what the Kentucky Derby is to horse racing," said Steve Sexton, president of Churchill Downs Entertainment Group.
The festival, set for next July 23-25 at Churchill, will feature more than 65 bands playing everything from classic rock to country to adult contemporary to bluegrass, Sexton said at a news conference at the track.
Five stages will be set up throughout the sprawling 147-acre facility known for its iconic twin spires and the Kentucky Derby is run each May.
Quint Davis, consulting producer of HullabaLOU, said organizers "hit the trifecta" by booking Bon Jovi, Chesney and the Dave Matthews Band as headliners for the festival.
"You can't set the bar any higher than to create musical magic under the twin spires," said Davis, producer and director of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, held at the Fair Grounds Race Course, a Churchill Downs Inc.-owned racetrack.
Tickets go on sale Friday, and packages range from $60 for a one-day general admission pass to $975 for a three-day VIP package.

I just read this..... no camping on site and 25 per day to park...hotels are 129.00 a night....3 day GA Tickets =160.00+ DMB ruins everything (imo)........Bonnaroo would be about the same price if you can only go to one festival.
I wouldn't skip Roo for this fest, but living in Louisville, I'll probably do one day. I'm just excited that we have two music festivals!! They bring good vibes to the city and we need the money!!

It's only 90 minutes away for me but there is no way I'd pay that much. It's interesting that they'd have two festivals in July along with Forecastle. Plus they just announced the all electronic fest in January, I think.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
Okay. I just have to say this: a lot of the bands are shows I would have stood in line to see in the 70s... I am glad they are still out there playing but... it is like the casino circuit....and Forecastle is an established festival with a good mix of talent.

Anyone else find it odd that their lineup was announced already and it's not until July? Why does roo wait so long? I guess there are a lot more acts at roo, but cmon.

i just went and checked out HullabaLou's web page. When those headliners came up on my screen I almost lost my breakfast. The "Drops Of Jupiter" guys are on the main stage.
My dad's ultimate favorite band ever is Steppenwolf. That was the first concert I ever went to. I was three. I've seen them over 20 times. I've eaten dinner with John Kay, and smoked a joint with Goldie. I've picked up Mars from the airport and if I were born a boy I would have been named Mars.
I hope me and him can make it to this. Going to see John Kay is few and far betwen.
