Has anyone ever been on know someone who has gone? The trip sounds amazing. Most of my favorite bands play on it quite often. I assume that it includes food but I can't really tell from the website.
This is something that I'd seriously consider going to next january.

the best music festival there is!!! went this year in jamuary, and had the time of my life. prices include all shows, workshops, your room, food and water/tea (sodas and alcoholic bevs extra, of course). one of the first things i did after getting on the ship in january was smoke with les claypool and skerik. depending on what kind of room you want will determine how much you pay. if i remember correctly, my bro and i paid like 1200 a piece this passed january, and that got us an inside room (no window). this year, we decided to up it with a balcony, so we paid around 1600 for this coming january. our first stop last year was belize city, belize, and i went diving there (first time in the ocean). next stop was costa maya, mexico. ended up eating lunch right next to galactic. then got a massage on the beach. anything you find at bonnaroo is available on jam cruise, however, you generally have to go with your own "fun". the fact that you have your own private room and shower, can decide between watching a show in a pool/hot tub/theater/under a moonlit sky with nothing but ocean all around, an unlimited amount of food, hanging with the musicians, many artist collaborations and jams that you just would not see elsewhere, and going to other countries for excursions or to lounge make this the best, IMHO, music fest there is. i am so ready for this month to fly by. fly to miami on the 31 for phish, lounge around miami for two days, and then take a train ride to ft lauderdale on the 3rd to begin jam cruise!!!
My best friend went 4 years in a row and says pretty much the same thing as jig. Greatest festival ever. A tropical vacation and a boat full of your favorite bands. It's not like the artists leave every night to go back to their hotel; they're on that boat with you, so I think you have the chance to see them around everywhere, from the stage to the lido deck.

After a little more research, I don't see how I can't go. Like you guys said, kick ass bands that you have a strong possibility of interacting with plus getting to see almost all of the bands since most play two shows. It's a lot of money but you get a cruise plus music.
I was concerned about "fun" though. If I remember correctly a bunch of people got busted a few years back going through customs. Too much talk on message boards led to their arrests.
I'm awaiting an email response about solo booking.
One of the best parts in my eyes other than the music and tropical locale is that they encourage you to bring your camera. I love concert photography so that's a definite plus.

dixie--did your friend get their "repeat offender" robe? cloud 9 actually makes these nice robes for people who attend four cruises. i will need two more cruises after this jan to earn mine.

This concerned me too. I really want to try this when I have the money but was always a little cautious because of the availability of that kinda fun.
I'm not a big drinker.....my body just can't take it. I get sick easily from drinking too much so I don't enjoy it that often.....so i'd be looking for alternatives.
I'm not saying I NEED some green to turn my baby blues red..........but it certainly would enhance my personal experience .
i too had read about the misfortunes of one of the cruises. fortunately, that was the only year that that had happened. anywho, my bro and i decided not to risk anything, so we took nothing. corn was plentiful all over the boat, as were other goodies, i assume. the only downfall is that nobody is really selling...people really only take for personal consumption. since we are flying from san antonio to miami, this makes our task a little more challenging. however, with help from a coachella friend, this little problem has been solved. many cruise ship workers try to get on this cruise, just because they know how wild it is. actually, i lied. we did take several flasks of good tequila and bourbon, and nothing...no pat down, no walking through a metal detector, nada.
sure the fest is expensive, but what you get in return is just phenomenal!!! i remember the new deal's room was right down the hall from our room. had the guitar player of bonerama (along with his girlfriend) come to our room to take of shot of tequila. dj rekha was passed out on the last night in the disco room. claypool, skerik, karl denson, several members of bonerama come out with dumpstaphunk and playing "thank you for letting me be myself" was pretty amazing. im considering playing the poker tournament this year...it's being held by ivan neville. the food is pretty crappy, but they do have a pay restuarant which is supposed to be really good. oh, and the prices i did mention are per person, not per room. i did just buy a handycam today to record a lot of the trip. once i am back, i will post some photos and video. however, just looking at the photos on the actual website should give an idea of what to expect. i guarantee anyone that goes will not be disappointed!!
oh yeah, this year cloud 9 did a "vote to the boat" and the ryan montbleau band won. before the contest ended, one of the candidates messaged me on myspace. it was josh from the josh philips folk festival. they mailed their cd "wicker" to anyone wanting it, trying to earn a vote for the ship. anywho, they came in a very close second, so cloud 9 extended an invite to them. i love their album and look forward to seeing them perform on the ship. i was really impressed at the personal message. at what other fest will a band send messages, and free copies of their cd to their fans?

nice. i checked out the facebook page and the pics on there look amazing. I would be flying from Indiana so I wouldnt be able to take anything either. I like to drink but I can't imagine going a week without corn. Im sure I could take some of my medicine for trade though. Speaking of The New Deal, Im gonna see them in January. Thanks for all the info jigawig and Im looking forward to seeing your pics/video from this coming year. PM me with how your coachella friend is helping you out.
