With Bonnaroo's craptastic line-up I can't justify paying for it, so I've got alot more money on my hands. So I'm going to try and fill the void with ultra and some smaller local fests. Ultra here I come!

Who were you watching? The repetitive beat stereotype does fit alot of electronic music, and even a small majority of the DJs/Artists at Ultra, but there's some really awesome guys out there that really mix it up.
I'm just now recovering from the weekend. What a great time. It's no bonnaroo, but trying to compare the 2 is like apples to oranges. I'll tell you one thing though, I understand now where the $190 ticket price goes. The production value and aesthetics at Ultra are amazing. The stage set ups, the scenery, the screens, all the different tents and especially the lights EVERYWHERE. They really go all out. It sold out this year (for the first time ever I think). It was total madness. It was announced as I was leaving that next year Ultra will be a 3 day event. I can't wait :-D

I saw ALOT. Unlike bonnaroo, with ultra i decided to do lots of split sets since there's so much going on at once. Some highlights... Passion Pit was great. I've been hearing people talk smack about his live vocal performance, but he sounded great to me. They had some technical difficulties but it didn't stop them from putting on a great show. I was surprised how well received they were among the Ultra Crowd. Infected Mushroom was really cool. They were billed as a DJ set but they showed up with a full band and rocked everyones face off. The disco biscuits were alot of fun. They apparently got a song on the top 100 dance singles and they were joking about how typical they were playing their top 100 dance hit at ultra. Crystal method played alot of classic stuff which was great but they had all kinds of technical difficulties and got really pissed off. David Guetta was a surprise for me, I've never been a fan but his set was really awesome, he did alot of great remixes.
As for saturday, there was alot of great drum n bass and dubstep. Subfocus, Planet of the Drums, and Pendulum were great (although I wish pendulum were live) Highlight of the day for me was glitch mob. I always suspect 'live' electronic acts are just guys playing mp3 files and pretending to twiddle knobs. These guys are the real deal though. They did a great live show. Boyz noise and bloody beatroots also had great shows. I somehow managed to miss bassnectar, got caught up somewhere else I guess. Deadmau5 was a little dissapointing. It was a fun set but I find him to be kind of mediocre. The set up for the festival was amazing though. Even the smallest tents and stages had awesome stage sets, lights, and great production value.
