Yep many of the smaller bands/artists do signings during the day at Roo. There is a schedule posted for them, but the lines are usually long!

There are two small stages called the Solar Stage and the Sonic Stage. Artists who are playing bigger slots in the fest will do interviews there and even do q&a's with the crowd. There are usually very few people around, and it's very intimate as you would imagine. I think moe. did one on the Solar last year. Anyway, just go to bonnaroo.com and check it out!
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.
I always look at the schedule and tempt to go by whenever there's a an interesting signing........needless to say I've to 'roo twice and I've never even swung by one of those tents. There are too many things to see and do, you'll have a great time! Welcome
The smaller stages are really cool if you can draw yourself away from everything else. Expect acoustic sets, signings, requests and more. It can also be a great place to catch a short set for a band you had a schedule conflict with.

I love the Sonic Stage. I missed everything at the Solar Stage all weekend. I saw Grace Potter, Brett Dennen, Ben Solie, and Katzenjammer all on the Sonic Stage in 09. They all did signings immediately after their sets. They usually play 30-45 minute sets on the Sonic Stage. Lots of good acts all day long. It's nice because you can see a lot of the acts in an intimate setting in a short period of time. Here's a few pics to give you an idea of the intimacy. Ben Solie with a random dude who jumped on stage to sing a Tom Waits song
Katzenjammer
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
A shot of the crowd at the Sonic Stage just before Brett Dennen. I was front row by this point.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
Sounds like its gonna be a blast, and from what i've heard theres so much to do in the 4 days the fest goes on that its just impossible to do everything, though Im hoping it'll work for me haha.
Thanks so much for all the info guys, looking forward to meeting you all,
Anything special to not miss at the roo this year?

do not miss the sonic stage. you can literally touch the people on stage from the front row, can catch some real cool shit in a very intimate setting. saw DSO right up front there...
that picture from the front looking back is making me miss roo, that area is one of my favorite to just stand and watch all the people because of how busy it is there.
Don't forget to have fun, meet your neighbors, plan to see shows but be totally okay with missin' them fer somethin'/anythin' else that may come up at that moment so be flexible. And again, HAVE FUN!

Bonnaroo.com and Inforoo can tell you all about all the bands that will play, where and when they'll play, what little things on the side to check out, etc... But what you won't hear much about is how you should prepare for the elements. Figure out how you are going to find sleep in a very cramped and possibly loud campsite. If you plan ahead, you will make it work, but don't just show up with a tent, tarp, and sleeping bag and expect to have a comfortable experience. If you're not in an RV, get yourself a good comfy cot and bring yourself a good, big canopy that will keep the sun and rain off of you (EZ Ups are the best, but very expensive). Last year I just put all of my gear/supplies in my little tent I usually sleep in. I covered the ground in tarps, one under the tent and another big one for a floor underneath my big EZ Up. I had a nice cot that I slept on under the canopy, wearing an eyemask to sleep in the sunlight. Waking up around 8 am sweating your arse off in a 110 degree tent inspires you to camp in weird ways like this. I don't know what that whole RV thing is like though lol.

Sonic stage is the bomb, I skipped it last year, but caught The Coup doing an acoustic set in 2008. I enjoyed way more than their regular set at night in a tent. Normally I find it hard to make it there or to the autograph signings, but catch it if you can.

Seconding what everyone said about the Sonic Stage being awesomely intimate. I saw Alexa Ray Joel there in 07. I was in the front row and I was so close to her that I actually felt a little weird taking pictures because it was like "oh hi yeah I'm just going to take some pictures from about two feet away, don't mind me. I'm glad you're wearing shorts under your odd crochet dress thing or else this would be really awkward." Haha...I'm too lazy to post the pics I took, but it's definitely an awesome way to watch a show.
As far as artist signings and stuff...I've never bothered with one of those, every time I considered it I either gave up because I didn't want to miss some show, or because I didn't want to wait in the line. And from what I've heard they're rather strict about rules and stuff. I think at least some of the time they won't sign anything other than a copy of their album that you have to buy right then.
