I've gone for 3 years, and last year was my first time camping wayyyy back in BFE, real close to the Bushy Branch Rd entrance. It was the best camp experience yet! Everybody was so chill and communal. Anybody else feel like it's different back in there? Once you go BFE, you don't go back!!
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.

uh I was near BFE (I was damn near the farthest away possible and still have a ticket) and I was torn. On the one hand, my neighbors were cool and chill, on the other hand IT TOOK ME OVER 30 MINUTES TO GET BACK TO CAMP!!!!!!!

We parked back off of Bushy Branch and it took us about 30-40 minutes one way. We hauled our gear to tent only and barely found a big enough spot to camp. The only reason the spot was still there was because it was right next to the ice truck. I don't think that I'd ever choose BFE over tent only just because of the heigth of the grass. Plus there's def more access to water and portos in tent only. I could see What stage from my tent. The only downside was having to carry all of our gear.

I was in bfe. We came in the bushy branch road entrance and was in the first camp area to the right. I didn't get that vibe. We were real friendly with two of our neighboors and everyone else around us seemed like they kept to themselves. Every morning I said good morning to them and asked how their day/night was and I'd get one word answers....they just seemed uninterested in talking. But, different strokes for different folks I guess.

We waited 8.5 hours in line to get put at the back fence on the left side from the Bushy branch exit. The walk definitely sucked but our neighbors were cool. I prefer close proximity since it made it harder to go back and forth for supplies and I always started out later. At least it was close to the guy who had the showers in his yard and we had fresh portos everyday. I will not go down the backroads line again.
I got spoiled last year in Access and am not sure how to go back to regular "who knows where you'll end up" camping after being a stone's throw away from centeroo. In '08 I was about a 15 minute walk and until this year had no clue BFE was REALLY BFE until we took a long stroll. I think I would miss too much camping in BFE b/c it seems like I always have to go back to camp for something.
Im all for BFE. We get there Wednesday night so there is no avoiding it anyway. (I refuse to sit in the traffic thurs morning to get in). Get in, set up (get more space usually and if you dont...its cool cause the likelihood of your neighbors leaving for tent only is high), chill out until thursday!
haha yeah I really don't feel like lugging all my crap. I only go back to camp once anyway before the headliners to rest for a few and change clothes if needed. Plus taxis were a big help every now and then when you just couldn't take the walk anymore! haha.
I was on the other side of the bridge last year. We were all the way back by the fence and wood line, it was actually nice being that close to the woods blocked the sun for an extra couple hours every morning, got the best sleep outside of an RV at the Roo I've ever had. The walk in was never too bad with the cut through VIP, the walk back kinda sucked but I was so out of it by that point I could have cared less.
I did enjoy BFE this past year, but after my habits of goin' back ta camp in '07-'08 ta get my drink on and all, BFE is A HIKE! '09 we would start out at camp until noon ta one-ish before headin' into Centeroo and wouldn't come back until LATE 'cause of that walk. This year I'm plannin' on gettin' in line early Thursday mornin' in hopes of a spot between BFE and Boba Fett/Han Solo this year.

I used a taxi to move my stuff to tent only, best $20 I spent all weekend!

Oh katy I read your horror story of waiting and waiting and waiting for the taxi thurs morning! You are a trooper! haha.

Is it usually around 9am on Thursday that they open tent only? I think Im gonna try to get in on Wednesday cuz I really hate waiting in traffic for 5-6 hours.

Each year I read about the hikers to tent only. Last year we brought a tent, but stayed out in Ed Rooney. If you know anything about Ed Rooney, you know it's not really the best place to sleep when you REALLY need those 3 or 4 hours. I'm starting to think the hike in might be the way to go. If not for sleep, at least for a short walk when I'm butt tired.

There are two main entrances, the front interstate entrance, and the back entrance on Bushy Branch RD, the only real road in the place (with the church on it). If you take the Bushy Branch entrance you will be parked back there way past the church. That's why it's called BFE. Last year it was the place to be, at least around my camp.
edit: I think there's a good map of the place somewhere around here.

sorry but i kind of think you guys who are saying camping in BFE is better than being closer are nutty.
in 08 we were at least a 45 minute walk from centeroo and it was not fun. it made it very hard to go back to camp to grab something or take a quick nap. the grass was eight million feet tall and some of it was this hard haylike grass which poked holes in people's tents.
i guess the bonnaroo gods felt sorry for us b/c in 09 we could see the ferris wheel from our tent. i saw 10 more shows, felt more rested and got less blisters. we had bascially the same amount of room for our tent. the only thing might have been was that i liked our neighbors the year before better, but that is a crapshoot obviously.

I've stayed in tent only and in Camp Moneypenny, and Moneypenny was better by a lot. There was more room and less noise so I could get some sleep. It also wasn't a big deal to walk back everyday (I don't know, I'm 20 and in decent shape, it's not hard to walk an extra 2 miles a day,) and if you're really tired you can always get a taxi for 5 bucks. No one stole my backpack last year, so that was a plus.

I've always camped in BFE - never been lucky enough to get close to Centeroo. Last year we came in on Wednesday and camped in Pod 1. It worked out great and we've decided that we'll show up on Wednesday from now on. It's not that far from Centeroo when the shortcut is open and there was a lot less hassle with getting there (no lines, no big hurry to get camp set up and comfy). We also had the best neighbors all around in Pod 1.
The only negative was that we were camped near the medical tent so you had the noise of the choppers coming and going all weekend, but they were pretty quiet late night/early morning when we were trying to sleep.

I agree with you EAP.
I was in BFE the first year I went, 06, and it was seriously a 45 minute walk.. and even longer at night when you had no idea what you were doing. We had once nice set of neighbors, but everyone else didn't talk to us. The grass was horrible, and I felt like I had more room the closer I've been to Centeroo than when I was in BFE.
I like being able to go back to my tent when there are times during the day that a band doesn't interest me, or just to go back and grab something I've forgotten. It's so much easier to do that when you're a 5 minute walk away rather than when you're 45.
To each their own, but I am all for being as close as possible.
