no, the NBA's is the last 8 after the play-in. that is how it is also graded via the sportsbooks.

Arguing semantics.
Any team who makes the play-in has a chance to win the whole thing. They are in the playoffs.
more teams in the playoffs is bad. over half the league now makes it which is a joke. im sorry but if you finish in 9th or 10th you have no business getting a chance.
I like your sentiment but it really is less teams making the playoffs based on the regular season. I really do feel like its more exclusionary and makes the regular season more important, since nobody is satisfied with the playin givin how random one game is.

huh? its adding 4 more teams.
and frankly fuck the west. thats what these teams get for trying to build expensive super teams and failing.

the warriors and the lakers both won championships
I don't think the East is really that bad. The only likely playoff teams that might be drawing dead are the Pacers and maybe the Knicks, but if both teams were healthy, they would both be quite dangerous.
cavs suck. bucks are kinda bad. everyone's scared of the heat cause they take out these other shitty teams every year, but they also suck. wouldn't be scared of the 6ers with embiid being out so long and choking every year in the playoffs. hawks and bulls is self explanatory.

its also subtracting 4 teams making the playoffs based on the regular season, which is the most important variable. Its makes the reg season more important.

lakers won a fake title when most teams didnt even want to play. I wouldn't even call the lakers a super team, warriors either anymore. more directed at the suns since the clippers seem safe.

id be very scared of the sixers if i were any team not named boston. we ranked as a top 2 team before mvp went down. we added better bench pieces since too.

its not subtracting anything. it prob wouldnt be a thing anymore if the league didnt luck out and get stars in it every year.

why? they choke every time like clockwork. Celtics aren't even that scary, Tatum has no aura. I'd be more scared playing KD/Booker

Trying to figure out how to rephrase this...
Based on the work done across the 82-game regular season, only 12 teams now have a guaranteed playoff position. It used to be 16. That is a fact. What you must be saying is that it is just as good to have a play-in spot as it is to have an automatic playoff spot. Or that it's even relatively close.
The key to me is that the play-in is nowhere near the same reward as the playoffs. A team that truly wants to be in the playoffs, badly wants to be in the top 6, so they actually need to put in more effort throughout the regular season than they used to.
It succeeds in making the regular season more important by making it more difficult to ensure your spot in a 7 game series / the actual playoffs based on regular season record.

the only time we choked was against atlanta. but, we were stuck with rivers and simmons who both fucking suck. Got robbed against the raps when KL blatantly traveled and proceeded to make the luckiest shot ever. otherwise Embiid has the worst luck with getting hurt around playoff time, finally did the smart thing and sat him so he could be healthy. its a different team with a different coach now. im cautiously optimistic as long as Embiid keeps progressing.

your really over thinking this. 16 teams are still guaranteed to get in but now 20 have a the opportunity

But its only 12 SPECIFIC teams guaranteed. I can tell you aren't trying to communicate like a human, so I'm done with this.

bro what? we disagree with how you view this, im not the only one either. 16 teams are literally guaranteed to make the playoffs, the specific teams do not matter at all.
yea but cavs, knicks had tons of injury issues. Sixers lost Embiid for 2 months after having the top record, Bucks fired their coach after starting like 30-13 for the worst available HC. i know the sunds had some injury issues too but KD played all season and Beal is more injury prone than Embiid.

hell yeah - tricked you into engaging with my point.
The specific teams may not matter to the bystander, but it matters - to the specific teams. That much is obvious. So it makes every team need to try harder in the regular season. Which makes the regular season more interesting. Explain to me which part of that you disagree with.

the C's are the most likely champion this year for sure

it doesnt make anyone play harder lol it just gives incentive to teams like the shit ass bulls and hawks to not blow it up mid season and start tanking. like i said they just lucked out with the west the past few years.

How do you figure this? Look at the east 2-8 right now and how close it is.
If it was like it was before, none of the teams would truly be concerned about where they landed. Do you not think that the Knicks, Pacers and Magic want to stay in the top 6? As for the Bulls and Hawks, I hear you. But are you saying it is better for the league to have more teams not trying to win during the season? At first I thought we both wanted the same shit overall for the league but now idk. Tanking is awful.
