this is kind of a stretch, but all these details seemed to click when i read this clue and some of this points to the Strokes. now bear with me:
Albert Hammond Jr (of the Strokes) is the son of Albert Hammond = offspring.
Hammond was famous for the single "It Never Rains In Southern California" no rain = sun. sun=warm.
also the part about the word "mum" or "mums". the single "It Never Rains in Southern California" was released on the subsidiary of Columbia called Mums Records.
like i said, it's a stretch.
this kinda supports my earlier post regarding the first group of monkeys in space, all of whom were named Albert. i was trying to come up with musicians named Albert and this might fit. The Strokes would be unreal!
David Yazbeck and his Warmest Regards - the title of the album is Evil Monkey Man. He has a song called Monkey Baby Hanging On Chicken Wire and his son did the album art.
This one makes the most sense to me. Opinions?
I found this last night as well....I'm just not savvy on the guy? Did you listen to him at all?
I listened to a few of his songs. He reminded me of something I heard in one of the cafes in 07 or 08. Definitely not something you would expect in one of the tents.
I don't have any theories, but one thing I see from others ideas is how much it doesn't work in reverse.
What I mean is, you have to see how DJJD could breakdown the band into a clue. Some of the theories here look good, but when you "play" them backwards, it seems unlikely that DJJD would have broken a clue down like that
You gotta think, how would he break down a clue (this probably doesn't make sense)
I think the answer is The Who and Neil Young. Of course I'm probably wrong, but it fits. Let's see how djjd constructed the clue:
Let's say hypothetically The Who is a headliner. Let's Google Pete Townshend since he *is* The Who... No surprise his Wikipedia entry is the 1st hit. Let's click on that...
Ok, after the introduction the 1st section is about his early life. In the 1st paragraph of this section Link Wray is 1st on Pete's list of influential guitarists. That's cool. For kicks and clue complexity let's do a combined search of Pete Townshend and Link Wray...
Well I'll be damned... 2nd hit mentions Link Wray, Pete Townshend and *another* headliner, Neil Young! (Remember, DJJD knows the lineup.) Let's click on that...
Yeah, there's an NPR story titled "Link Wray: Father of the Power Chord," that mentions both Pete and Neil; they're like his children.
The story is a rememberance of Link's life. He died in 2005. He's dead, so he's missing... He's the missing link! Like a monkey. Can we do anything with monkey and Wray, ray? A ray of sunshine is warm, so he's a warm monkey? His bothers were in his early bands, but Link was the most famous so he was the warmest...

See, I like how you did the reverse deduction. Not sure if it is right, but that's they way we need to think.

I apologize if this has already been said since I haven't read through these yet:
It sounds to me like the Gorillaz. They have a song called "Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head." The fire from the monkey's head = the one warm monkey, and the towns people are the offspring that live in the shadow of the monkey. I know it seems unlikely since the word monkey is in the clue, and the band's name is a type of monkey. But, DJJD might have done that to throw us off the trail. The answer could be that easy.
Also, Dave Matthews came to mind. The only reason is because he seems to have monkeys in quite a few of his songs. Maybe someone can build on that.

Didnt the beatles have a song, something like, "except me and my monkey?" McCartney did do an album with his son. They dont have anything scheduled, but a possibility?

That was well deduced. I hope your right with neil, but the who, i couldn't really care less.
Here, munch on a crunhy for the sleuthiness.

Then there is the alternative, more worrisome interpretation; Among his children, Link Wray had a son named Lincoln and another named Elvis. The Kings?

Here's a fresh idea: The one monkey & and his offspring could be Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Jr, both arcade games and then the warmest part could mean fire.....Arcade Fire anyone?
Didnt the beatles have a song, something like, "except me and my monkey?" McCartney did do an album with his son. They dont have anything scheduled, but a possibility?
The song is "Everybody's got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" From the White Album. The song is credited to Lennon/McCartney but it is a John lennon song. So that hurts the argument for McCartney. However, I hope you are right.

I think you guys are over-thinking things and grasping straws. I like the Curious George and his offspring part therefore equals to George Jones with his daughter Georgette Jones.
Besides he's available Bonnaroo weekend and is touring from east coast to west coast:

I guess nobody wants Georgie boy there, and before you reply it doesn't make sense, I'll let you know I can explain the answer very well, but will spare you the long details so might be best not to say anything except George Jones sucks.
sorry guys i wasn't trying to be racist...i googled 'family band' for the offspring part and robert randolPH was the best band that I came up with.
you were far from racist, it was threebboyz with the "What if monkey was used as a racial slur against black people and we just have the find the warmest black guy? Snoop? lol I'm going to hell..." comment.
I mentioned RR&Fam in the first couple pages as well due to the word family.

I agree your answer makes sense probably the 2nd or 3rd most likely guess so far
