last year I drove down to Roo from Toronto. Passed nashville the night before which was awesome and stayed in the Holiday Inn in Manchester. Because of the hotels proximity to Roo we were in in under 45 minutes.
This year I plan on flying down on the Thursday morning and then taking a rental car from the airport into Roo. I anticipate a much longer wait but am wondering, what would be the better airport to drive from proximity wise?

Thanks. I guess I'll be flying into Nashville then. Coming that way down the highway though, do you somehow get re-routed? Or are there multiple entry points into the Roo grounds? Last year was my first Roo and I have therefore limited experience coming and going

I took the shuttle my first year and it was good - we got to skip past the hellish traffic lines, and it definitely got me in the Roo spirit early with all those other eager fest-goers on board - but I could not for the life of me find where I was supposed to pick it up to go back to the airport on Monday. I wandered around for over an hour and asked everyone in sight, but they had no clue, so eventually I ended up thumbing a ride with some wooks.
So take the shuttle, but find out the pick-up spot, so you don't make the same mistake I did!
I was thinking about the shuttle but I also like the safety and comfort of the car/ tent combo. Obviously if you are taking the shuttle you are staying in tent only. Again, my experience is limited to last years awesome Roo but I heard some bad stories from tent only campers and had a good experience myself in car/ tent. Anyone care to weigh in on tent only vs. the other?
Also, with the shuttle in how long a ride is that? How busy was it on the shuttle? How often does it come and go (and on Monday getting out)?
I've done tent-only the two times that I have been to Roo. We've driven in both times, but after figuring out where we were parked, we decided to stay in tent-only for the close proximity to Centeroo. I LOVE tent-only! I personally don't bring anything to Roo that I wouldn't mind parting with... well, with the exception of money! But I split up the money and keep it in several different places so if they find one hiding place, they hopefully won't find the others.
Last year, on Saturday night while we were at Bruce, one of our coolers was stolen. (It was the cooler with the most beer) I figure they must have needed it more than we did so there were no tears shed. That is the only instance of theft I've experienced in tent-only... but, yes, I too have heard about people having their tents ripped open, etc. But honestly in that big of a crowd, I would guess the bad experiences happen to a very small percentage of the tent-only crowd. We hear about them more because those are the people that are most vocal.
Whatever decision you make, just make up your mind to have a great time no matter what happens!

Thanks so far for the help btw
I think the shuttle was about an hour and a half last time. You get a little slow down trying to get in but you do get to skip everything. I dont remember exactly but I think the shuttle is about once every hour. Thursday they come and go all day but Monday you've got to be up and out kinda early. I've done the shuttle twice now, once to go tent only and once to meet folks.
I've never had a safety problem but when doing tent only I stayed in camp inforoo so even though I couldnt lock anything up I was able to keep in a group of people and all my junk was safe.

Security is another benefit to staying in camp inforoo because there is always somebody hanging around camp. That combined with making friends with your neighbors and you shouldn't have much to worry about.
As others have said, if you don't leave anything valuable in your tent you'll have no problems at all. I keep my cash/electronics/etc on my person at all times, so even if someone busted into my tent, they'd find nothing but clothes, granola bars and a warm place to sleep....Not too enticing
I'm not exactly sure how often the shuttle comes and goes, there's a line at the airport on Thursday and it seems like they come fairly often...then there's the reverse leaving roo on Monday. Pretty painless.
And from my experience, the shuttle pick up is the same as the shuttle drop off.
