I was reading the back of my VIP ticket (w00t!) when I found this:
Persons entering the facility are subject to search for contraband, unauthorized merchandise, alcohol, controlled substances, weapons, firearms, fireworks, cameras, video equipment, or recording devices, which are expressly forbidden.
Wait ... cameras and recording devices? Forbidden?
Since when?
I'm guessing that this is what happens when you use boilerplate legalese. Way to go, Superfly.

The FAQ still says: Q: What is the taping policy going to be? Will we need to get tapers tickets? * Audio Taping will be permitted. Video Taping will NOT be allowed. Each stage will have a designated taping area, which will be on a first come first serve basis. No Tapers Tickets will be necessary.
I just emailed them and asked about the policy, we'll know sooner or later.

You are not allowed to bring in professional equipment unless you have a press pass, and even then you can only bring in cameras. If you have a little hand held video camera you shouldn't have too much of a problem, as long as its not professional. And too my knowledge they allow cameras as long as the lens is not detachable, so no slr's without a press pass.

That's not what the ticket says, which is my point exactly.
I really wouldn't worry. I've carried nearly everything on that list (other than weapons and firearms) into Centeroo with no problems whatsoever. They're just protecting themselves by saying everyone is "subject to search".
In '04 my husband and I took a video camera in through the VIP entrance on Thursday and no one said a word... we filmed around centeroo, went out to shakedown and filmed some there, and when we were cutting back through centeroo to get back to VIP we got denied at the entrance. Couldn't bring in the video cam... We had to walk all the way around the what stage and up the back roads (this is when VIP was back behind the comedy tent).... no fun.
They're just covering their @sses so that in case of a dispute they always win. They basically reserve the right to do anything. In reality they are very easy going.
My wife took her SLR in 05 and she had no problem, and she was in GA. She only had one lens with her. I think they're looking for folks with mobile photo studios.

I remember the tickets last year said the same thing re: no cameras or recording devices. It's a mistake, or they're just being legally safe, or they mean something else, or I don't know. What matters is it's nothing to worry about.

oh, and to answer the question of the thread... you notice on that list "alcohol" is also on there. They've explicitly stated that each person (of legal age of course) is allowed 3 cases plus 2 1.75 liter containers. They meant for the "unauthorized" to apply for all of those words listed.
my only concern is how active these searches will be. i mean are we talking dogs and feds tearin your stuff apart or just some chill hippie dude who asks you to unzip your bags
If you shot an awesome documentary, and it started selling like crazy, they would have this disclaimer as a legal reason to sue you and win, and take the money that you've made. If you drank too much and died, they would be protected from your family suing them. Oh, and if you shot someone with a gun, they could then arrest you.
There were DEA agents last year at the BFE entrance. But it seemed they pulled people into that line very randomly. I'd say your chances are pretty good to just be searched by the normal ticket takers. We didn't even get searched last year. Guy just asked us if we had any glass or anything illegal. And I said no and he let us on our way. He kind of looked me in the eyes like Larry David does on Curb Your Enthusiasm to see if I was lying.
