Sort of the same problems we had is years past. My Wife has several cameras, all Canons, 40d with several L series lenses, a Power Shot S5IS and a Power Shot SD880 IS
She feels even if she could bring in the 40D she would be afraid of elements such as dust, wet, mud and anything else that flies around. So In years past she has chosen the Power Shot S5 IS. It is easier to carry throughout the day and it is more sealed since it does not have a detachable lens. The Power Shot 880 IS is also nice but it does not have the zoom like the S5.
Here are her pictures form last year using both the S5 and the 880
Good luck with your decision but from our past experiences it's nice to know that there will be no problems getting in and one of your most expensive investments are safe.
I took a d60 (entry level dslr) in every day last year. Im going to try to sneak in my d300 this year.
you upgraded in the past year too? i brought my d60 in 09, ill be bringing my d300 this year if i return, still up in the air since i doubt ill be going with the friend i went with last year.

Y@dsarb yep. I bought the D60 less than a year ago. I also bought a 50 mm f1.4 for the night shows and I kept forgetting it in the car. I bought the D300 on a whim when I was looking for lenses. I picked it up for a grand so I couldn't pass it up. Just got a 24-70 f2.8 as well. It's my baby.
bug512. That Canon 40D should be sealed enough to not have to worry about dust. Water however is completely different. I had no problems at all with the Nikon. I just kept it in my Camelbak and when it rained I always had a poncho on.
Im looking into getting a photo pass this year. Im just trying to get affiliated with a local media outlet to shoot freelance for.

I brought my D40 in no problem.
She looked at your comment today !! She has been getting over a couple hundred views a day.
satellitebob...you got a picture of the dog with biggest balls on earth!!! That dog gave us all a big laugh when we saw those huge nuts swing back and forth. I knew I couldn't have been the only one who saw them

I saw that dog as well. He needs to take that thing to a vet.
seeharlie--How did the humidity hurt your camera? A DLSR should be able to take a little heat/moisture. I'd like to take a morning and do free portraits at roo. But I know that I won't. Might be a way to pass the time from 6am-12

I was able to get my dlsr in with no problems. However, the humidity killed my camera.
What do you mean by "killed" ?
Won't turn on anymore, $200 to fix. Granted this could be something other than humidity, but my only other guess is it got jostled in my bag in the middle of Gogel Bordello since the crowd was pretty wild. But my bag was pretty well padded so I don't think it was that.
