Last year i missed the first day of bonnaroo because of traffic.. Whats the best plan of action in getting into b-roo on time???
I was considering my options and driving in is one of them.. whats the best time to make the trip into manchester? 5AM?? I'm considering just flying [again] this year and taking the airport shuttle, which drops you off right on site.. but then i wouldn't have the comfort of having a car there...
Welcome tbot. The past 2 years I spent 6 and 8 hours from the first stop in line to making it through the tollbooths. Both times I got in line around 9-10. Pretty much any time is gonna a cluster f#@k from what I have heard. The shuttle is a good option if you go tent only, just make sure you know when and where the pick up and drop off points are. There are tons of tricks/tips to keep your stuff as safe as possible without a car to lock them in. For example, bring a decent lock box for valuables and cable locks to keep large items attached to each other, I don't imagine anyone would steal a large duffel bag connected to a cooler connected to a lock box connected to a tent. Someone that has their mind made up to steal something is going to look for something quick and easy so they can dissapere quickly. Tent only does have a few very good benefits too such as the close proximity to centeroo and less of a defined lettle square to post up your camp in.
If money allows it, go VIP. I decided last year in my 8 hour, 5.8 mile journey in line that I would not do it again. The other perks of VIP are great too, flushing, climate controlled potties (with attendants i believe), all you can handle free showers, more space to set up camp, and being right outside the What stage wall.
Browse through the threads and gather your own opinion. We have threads set up for VIP topics, tent only, and several on different peoples opinions on the logistics of getting to Roo. And above all, no matter what happens, you must be determined to have a good time; Roo is a happy place and everyone must treat it as such. Have your first crunchie

Mike D, I see you live in Mt. Juliet. Which way did you take to Manchester? Last year, we were in line around 8:15am and made it to the tollbooths in a little under 2 hours. The first year, we didn't even wait an hour in line.
But I have never taken the interstate in; we take highway 41. Much quicker!
First year we sat on I-24, last year we tried some different roads to get to the Bushy Branch entrance, don't remember specifically what they were and I did get lost, but we went right through Manchester. I ended up off the North East edge of the map, not even in a campsite on the map, no water tanks or pods anywhere, porta-potties were a good 10-15 minute walk, bonnaroo really dropped the ball out there last year. I still had the time of my life on the farm, just had to work a little extra hard to play a little extra hard.

anyone have a good action plan or tips?
get there weds evening if you can. pros: no wait in line + an extra night on the farm; cons: camped in BFE.
my first 2 years on the farm (2006, 2007) i arrived weds night. got stuck in pod 1 both years.
in 2008 i drove overnight and arrived in manchester at 7am. i was in line for 2.5 hrs and set up in pod 7 by 10am.
last year i followed the same routine as 2008. spend the same amount of time in line, but got stuck in pod 1 again.

Yes! Go in Wednesday Night! Two years in a row I've gone in Wednesday... last year around 8pm. No lines, but you will definitely be stuck in BFE. Just carry, drag, cart all your stuff down to tent only Thursday morning when they open the gates to BFE camping. I'm not going to lie, it's a huge PITA getting it all down there, but once you're there... 4 days of easy

Funny, for the last two years we've arrived at the stopping point early afternoon and been set up by 5 pm. A little late for the very first shows but we've also never spent more than ~2 hrs in line.
closer to roo time people will begin to ask for people to share rental cars from the airport. you may also be able to get ride in with someone coming through town and then camp with them and use their car. this plan would allow you to have a car to put stuff in. i would want to have a car so that i could bring in some ice and water.
we get in line to roo at about 6am or so and we get in in limited time...maybe under two hours. we also go through manchester and come up across the interstate and then in at the winery. this way...if we are stuck we are on a country highway and not stuck on a hot interstate. however, we have never had to wait on the road,we always get at least past the little gas station going in toward the winery. this is also good because you have the gas station and the street venders to mess with and buy stuff from and talk to while you are stopped.we DO have to wait in our car on the road there for a while because i dont think they start letting people in before 7am. i hope this makes sense.
i honestly think that you may be able to fly in wed night and then bum a ride in on thursday. you may also want to check out couchsufing and try to stay overnight wed for free with a fellow rooer ini nashville.

Last year from leaving the Holiday Inn parking lot to having my tent setup was less than an hour! The hotel was right at the last highway exit from one of the entrances.
This year I will be driving from the nashville airport in around 12pm, I figure I'll be lucky to see any of the bands Thursday night

IMO it's better to drive in Wednesday night. I don't know how it would work for tent only, but we've done it that way with an rv for two years and it's been awesome. We get to Manchester @ around 10:00pm and we park at the wallmart by the highway. We join the wallmart festivities, walk around, and drink a little. Get some shuteye and head to bonnaroo @ around 6am. The line is already a few miles long but we've always made it in before 9am.
Are they actually searching all the cars in this huge mass of vehicles? Are you more likely to get your car torn apart if you arrive at a weird time with less of a line?
My plan of action includes driving 16 hours and arriving in Murfreesboro around 3pm to get a good night sleep before roo. (allowing me to get in line early thurs morning)
Would you suggest skipping the hotel and getting in line early Wednesday evening?
This is my first roo any words of wisdom will go along way.
I haven't been yet either, but from what I've read, if you go there Wed night, they'll let you in but you'll be stuck out in "BFE" at the farthest campsites. but...you could wake up and head over to Tent Only Thurs morning and get a much closer spot, if you wanted to do it that way.
