so my sister and her husband may be going with us this year and they want to stay at a hotel. they are not the camping type. so how much of a hassle is day parking? is it easy to get in and out of the fest every day? i know it's a really long walk. any other pluses or minuses we should know about?
Not as fun as staying at the fest, but I'm just sayin'. ;D
and by more fun staying at the fest, you mean partying? we don't really do that anyway. we see shows from noon to late night. then try to catch a couple hours of sleep and that's it.
Thats what i did last year.. sorta.. stayed near enough to walk, i did get a ride back twice from a friend who was staying at a hotel.. no problem getting out, no idea on the ride in.
I'm not the partying type, so it worked for me, noon to 4-5am, woot.

Well, I'm sure a huge plus would be being able to sleep in everyday rather than waking up in a pool of sweat at 7:00. But on the flipside of that, it may be tempting to stay in bed a bit longer in the afternoon, thus missing some good afternoon shows. I guess you'll have to stock up on caffeine to wake yourself up everyday.

We live an hour away -- we leave a car in day parking for anyone outta our group (10-15) to go home for some late nite clean-up/sleep.Day parking is a haul--especially after a long day but unlike regular camping where you can triangulate and always find your setup---in day parking it's just many cars in an open field and late at nite unless you felt good about remembering it can take awhile. No other real problems--make sure you bring flashlights.....unfortunately Bonnaroo this year falls during a new moon phase----meaning dark----love the Roo at nite with a full moon...too bad.
"They will be allowed to enter and leave through a separate tollbooth on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. To get to the tollbooth for day parkers use exit 111 from I-24 and follow the signs to the festival. If exit 111 is closed, follow police instructions and then follow the signs to day parking. Please note that because of the high inflow of patrons into the festival site on Thursday and Friday, it may take a while for Day Parkers to exit the site on these days."
I didn't camp. And yes, we got in on Thursday. Granted, we had to wait in line with everyone else camping, but contrary to popular belief, day parking is open all 4 days. It's just a pain to get in on Thursday and sometimes Friday too, since you're waiting on everyone else getting all of their gear for the weekend checked, and there's no express lane for day parking or anything.
When we pulled into day parking on Thursday there were only about 10-20 other cars there, so it seems most people still aren't clear that it's available then. Even some of the staff seem bewildered, based on the confusion we got from some of them, but keep asking and eventually someone will point you to it.
what time did you leave on thursday night and how long did it take to get out? also, does anyone know if theres a good place to park in manchester and walk to centeroo on thursday?
We left after Passion Pit, so I guess that was 12:15ish. Not counting the walk back to day parking, it didn't take us any time to get out. We just pulled out of parking, turned out for the gate and left. There was no waiting in line or anything, though we did go slow for a little bit to let people walking get out of the way.
Some Bonnaroo staffer stopped us on the way out acting all self-righteous like he was going to save someone. I rolled down my window and he asked "What are you trying to accomplish here?" I gave him a confused look and pointed to the gate. "We're leaving." He looked dumbfounded and disappointed that he wasn't going to get to correct someone and then said "Oh, okay... just go that way then..."
Other than that, it was probably less than 5 minutes from the time we got into my car until the time that we were crossing over the interstate. They did route us down Powers Rd., through the neighborhood over there, since traffic was still two lane coming in beyond that point.
As for parking off site then walking in, I did that last year. It is a little longer of a walk, but you won't have to wait in any lines. I parked on the street on Walnut Ln in that same neighborhood, then walked in. I was slightly worried someone might get mad at me for parking there, but my truck was fine when I got back. A couple of others had parked there by the time I left that night.
Last year my camping spot was right on the edge of day parking and it really wasn't that far of a walk to Centeroo. The first day there was a fence up that you had to walk around, but some people rammed it down within a day which cleared a path to shakedown

I day parked for 3 years and never had any issues. Just tell the people at the booth and/or those who are directing parking and they will put a big D on our windshield. If you go in the entrance near the winery, the day parking is the field just beyond the toll booths where you enter.
It is about a 10 minute walk to Centeroo. Definitely bring a flashlight because there is not much lighting in that area.
