July 1-4 2010, Quincy, CA
Confirmed via pollstar: Great American Taxi Trampled by Turtles
Rumored: Railroad Earth Nathan Moore Big Light
I know a lot of you guys aren't in the West, but if you get a chance, get to this festival in your lifetime. It's an absolute gem. You don't make it to the 20th anniversary by producing crap.
It's done by the same people who do Delfest, and in the past they've shared quite a few artists. So look at that lineup to get an educated guess at who will be there this year.
Update from Twitter- Initial announcement expected Thursday.

We just moved to NV, and we're thinking about checking this out. How would you describe the atmosphere, security, crowd, camping situation . . . . ?
I'm pretty curious about this stuff too. I've got a buddy who lives in Arcata, Ca and he's been asking me if I might be interested in accompanying him and his wife this year. They haven't ever been before and don't know what to expect either, or I wouldn't ask. How would a person with a "disability" fare on the ground?

Atmosphere- It doesn't get much better than this, quite simply the best festival going. Much smaller and intimate than most festivals, with more families than you'd generally see. People are very nice, plenty of space to get your dancing in without feeling crowded. Crowds the last few years have been somewhere around 6-7000.
Late Night Shows- You have to buy these on top of the festival pass, but there's usually one free show latenight also. The latenight shows are incredible, worth every cent and more when you consider the caliber of band playing in relation to the crowd that is witnessing it. You'll almost feel guilty.
Security- Generally pretty lax, there were problems with security before 2007 when they righted the ship. Don't be stupid and you'll be okay.
Camping- Camping inside the main grounds is recommended, because you'll be so close to all the action. You won't be able to camp with your car, but there is a shuttle that brings you and your gear inside the grounds from the satellite parking location. Several different types of locations from sunny/grassy fields, to darker/tree shaded camps. Temps get cold when the sun goes down and warm up somewhere around 9-10.
Bonus- Possible to use a real toilet all weekend if the johnny on the spot isn't your thing. Free hot showers. City pool just outside festival grounds is perfect on a warm day. Bring your own beer/drink to the shows (put in cup if going to Mainstage). Two block walk to gas station to reload on beer/spirits. Short walk to grocery store to reload on food staples/beer/spirits/whatever. Can take bus downtown if you want to go to a restaurant. Grizzly Radio turns each stage into its own radio station, so when you're back at camp you can check out what's jammin' while you're taking a break. Bands play renegade sets in various locations throughout the grounds.
I don't think a disability would be too hard to overcome at all. The grounds are pretty small, and generally pretty flat. Permanent bathrooms and showers would all be accessible.

First, thanks for the info!
Okay. On their site, they make it a point of saying something like "No hidden fees. What you see is what you pay." I noticed there's a $9 delivery charge for tickets, and if what you say is true, there will be more fees everynight? How much are we talking here? Do they charge per show, per night? Besides the more intimate environment, the cost was seeming like a huge draw to me, but I'm starting to have some second thoughts.

They definitely don't hose you with fees near as bad as most festivals. Have you not been to Bonnaroo? I don't even want to guess how many extra fees get attached to that ticket. You'll be begging for that $9 delivery charge. If cost is an issue this is the festival to hit. Unlike most festivals you can drink your own beer while watching the shows, and camp close enough to easily slip back and make a sammy. Easy way to save a bunch of cash.
By no means are you forced to go to the latenight shows, and I believe every night except for Sunday, they offer a free show latenight (starting around 12:30-1 or so) also. The other latenight venues are enclosed and exclusively used for latenight shows, so they're more expensive to produce. Rather than raise the price of everyone's ticket they just charge for those that want to do it. I'm sure they aren't making money by charging on the late shows. All bands that play a late night set will also play a regular set during the festival so you can still catch everyone on the bill. The latenight tickets vary in price from in the neighborhood of 10-24 bucks, and includes an opening band also. You can also get a combination wristband to allow you to go back and forth between different venues, but I don't think that's worth it when you're probably going to stick with one. I was also skeptical when I saw that you had to pay for the latenight shows but eventually realized it was more than worth paying for when it was a band I wanted to see. (For example- Last year I saw Dr. Dog and Tea Leaf Green share a latenight stage for $20...there were maybe 40-50 people there. It's pretty special) If I'm not fired up about the latenight options I will still find something going on without paying to get into the show.

Cool, man. Thanks. I wasn't trying to be difficult or cheap or anything like that. I've been to 4 roos and I can totally see that this, regardless of additional fees, would probably be cheaper. I was just bummed when, after their "no hidden fees" statement, I noticed the service charge. Then, after you mentioned the additional cover-charges for the latenights, I got a bit sceptical about them. Like most people, I'm more (almost solely) interested in the latenight shows and atmosphere, but I mean, If I were to pay $20 extra a night for shows, that would add-up pretty quickly. Adding costs accumulating to eventually equal a bigger festival(and by extension, bigger bands)'s bottom line does discourage me somewhat. Even if it's worth it in the end, it still seems a little misleading and even dishonest to me...especially after their "It's what it is" claims. There do seem to be HUGE perks, but I'm just not sure about it.
Regardless, thanks again for the help! Crunchies for you, my friend!

I would guess that the Newfangled Wasteland addition means that Tea Leaf Green is still to be added. Probably after their SF dates in April. Either way, great additions!
