Hah I didn't even consider tipping the taxi guys last year. Then again they were charging me $10 - $15 per ride (paying for my friend and a cooler or cot) so I wasn't in the tipping mood I guess. I'll keep that in mind this year though.
what time would you recommend getting in line if you wanted to get a spot close to centeroo?
Well..........if you're referring to Tent Only (close to Centeroo) the general consensus is that it starts getting crowded in the afternoon/early evening. So I would advise getting in line no later than 9-10am to avoid any hassle.
Now if you're referring to when to get in line to obtain a camping spot by your car AND close to Centeroo......well THAT my friend is the million dollar question. To the best of my knowledge their methods for placing vehicles seems completely random in design.

Wednesday night people usually end up in BFE (farthest from Centeroo). Anyone that chooses can pack up their stuff and haul it to tent only early on Thursday (not exactly sure when they open it up). You will be 5 minutes from Centeroo in tent only! My crew is thinking about doing it for the first time this year. Would you think a lock on your tent would make it more "attractive"?

See my buddy thats going w/ me and I are having this debate as well. We're gonna head in Wednesday night and get placed in Pod 1 (James Bond and Co. campsites) and set up camp for the evening and start the festivities. They pretty much lock you in Pod 1 until around 8, 9, or 10 in the morning on Thursday while Pod 1 fills more and more w/ cars.
So as soon as we're allowed to my friend and I are debating packing up and bringing our tent, EZ up, cooler, and backpacks with us to Tent Only.
I personally think locking your tent is a good idea. Yes in theory it makes it more apparent that you have valuables but at the same time someone breaking in or cutting your tent open is ALOT more obvious and apparent than someone just randomly unzipping your tent for a few moments and grabbing your stuff.
So I think I've decided that I'm gonna keep my valuables in the car and make two or three trips back to my car as necessary throughout the weekend. Pretty much the only thing that was keeping me from Tent Only was the fear of theft. But from the sounds of things if you're smart and use good judgement it shouldn't be a problem.
Plus I've heard Tent Only is a blast, and I've never camped there before.

I've done tent-only the past two years and the only thing that was stolen from our campsite was our "beer" cooler. I personally wouldn't bring a lock because, yes, I think it does make it seem like you have something of value stashed in your tent.
My philosophy is don't bring anything to Roo that you wouldn't mind parting with because there's always a chance it could get stolen or even get ruined. The valuables that I do bring (money and my camera) stay on my person at all times. But I also know that if I lost my camera or my money, I wouldn't be completely devastated and definitely wouldn't let it ruin my time.
Make friends with your neighbors in tent-only. Keep an eye on their campsite and ask them to do the same for you. If you see someone suspicious, just say "hey, dude, what are you doing?" Let them know that you're keeping an eye on them without being mean or rude.

You park wherever they park you at, then hike with all of your gear to tent only. Be prepared with something to carry your stuff. It was a good 30-40 minute hike for us last year and we had to make multiple trips. So glad that we're in access this year.
