Ok I've looked around and I have not seen a thread that talks about the conveniences of camping by your tent versus camping in tent only.
This year will be my first 'Roo and my boyfriend and I are both going. I want to camp in tent only but he wants to camp by the truck.
So what do u guys think?
Is it more convenient to be by your vehicle? (to charge cell phones, camera chargers, etc.) i guess it might depend on how far away your car is from tent only...
Is it easier to find good corn by your vehicle or in tent only?
Are the people generally nicer or more open in tent only?
What are ya'll's thoughts?

I think it all depends on want you really want. I like to be close, but I would like to be able to camp by my car to lock up valuables. We ended up in BFE last year so we hauled all of our gear to tent only but it was a bitch to do it. Tent only is very close to centeroo. We got parked somewhere in the NE corner of the map by the pond. We camped in Thunderlips (tent only). We could see the arch from our tent.
It took us around 30-45 minutes to walk from BFE to centeroo depending on the time of day/night.
Corn will come to you or you can look for it. I encountered all types of people, you never who you're going to be camping next to. Just be friendly. We got to tent only around 6-7pm last year and barely managed to find a spot. So if you want to do tent only, you need to get there early.
For me, tent only is the way to go because it would suck to walk 45 minutes back to camp after the latenights. If you've got some extra cash, you can get a taxi for $5 one way per person.

It depends on you, how many trips to camp you make each day and the distance at which you are parked. I've always camped at the truck (but never been too far, at max 15-20 min walk to Centeroo and usually much less) If I ever get in BFE, which can be a 45 -hour walk, I'll almost certainly do Tent Only.
If you plan on spending the whole day at shows, it won't matter much. If you go back and forth a lot, Tent only might be good. There is always the option of doing both and basically having a "day camp" in Tent Only and hiking back to the car each night to sleep.
BTW, y'all is appropriate IMHO as Roo IS in the South

I've decided that if we are pretty close to Centeroo we'll just camp by the truck b/c it would be a lot easier to secure our stuff when we're not there.
If we're over 15mins away then we're takin our sh*t over to Tent Only. I plan on being out All night most nights and I can just see me all corned out at 5am trying to get back to my tent. Esp if it's 30mins + away. I don't think I'd ever make it. I'd be the girl askin random ppl if I can crash under their ez up!
Oh and btw if u see this girl, and/or this guy, and u got corn of any kind, let them know.... hehe
I always let lost strangers sleep at my site. Seems most years, especially when (I'm very close to Centeroo) someone gets lost at 5am and I just let them crash in my bed and I sleep in the hammock. I always bring extra cots, etc just for this purpose.
Finding your spot isn't usually that hard if you (or your neighbors) have a decent flag and/or you take a good look back as you're leaving to get a couple reference points. Still 5am at Roo is not "normal" circumstances by any means so...
i agree with my buddy troo. i camp with my friend in accessible so we are close. in past years ive been in bfe and i felt it would be nice to have a cooler or something closer. we are very close due to being in accessible so if anyone wants to put a cooler or they want to pass out ....thats fine with us.
i would want a closer area if i were in BFE because that was such a haul .....in midday and in wee hours that it did impact the experience. however, if you get stuck in bfe i think you can put a cooler and a bed up with some of us. you might want to save some contact info on some of us for that reason. thats what roo is all about!!!
The two times that I've been, my group and I have done tent-only. So I can't give a comparison since I've never camped by my car. BUT, I cannot imagine not being in tent only. It can be a pain to haul your gear from your car to tent-only but once you are there, you will not regret it. Being so close to Centeroo is worth everything.
I have never had a problem finding my camp in tent only. As soon as you and your neighbors get set up, find a landmark. We were near the portos last year and next to some people that had some plush monkeys high on a stick. We also try to camp right next to the path/road so it's even easier to find.
And on Monday morning, you can drive your car up to tent only to pack it all back up so no more hauling!

They wouldnt let us drive any farther than the last concession stand on Bushy Branch on Monday. We left kind of early in the am, but they refused to let us through.

Traffic usually lets up by noon or so but last year everyone was running late for whatever reason and traffic stayed bad a lot longer.

I have only camped next to the car. The first time was in BFE and it sucked to go back to camp. Last year I was next to Access so we were a close walk and it was awesome.
I like the option of locking my clothes, and anything I value in the car, it just makes me feel safer..... It is just too easy for people to open up your tent and take whatever they want. I don't think I would camp in tent-only for that reason alone. I know that doesn't happen much, but it does happen - from what I heard, last year was worse than usual.

There was no traffic at all because we left really early. They just wouldn't let us drive that far. This year though, I think I will be in access with Wolfaroo so its a moot point now. ;D

We did tent only last year because we came in at like 2 AM on Thursday and got stuck in the far corner of BFE. Thursday was absolutly miserable trying to get us and all of our shit to tent only but once we got there and got some rest it was wonderful being to close to centeroo. We were right behind the general store and could see the arch from our site. We ended up having to stay until around 2 on Monday afternoon because they would not let us drive our car to tent only. We were the last people there, but we live an hour away so it wasn't that big of a deal.
They do not open Tent Only until Thursday morning and if you are in BFE across the bridge (which you will be Wed night) they wont let you out over the bridge until BFE fills up so no one gets run over. This is usually about 9am or so but can vary, still plenty of time to get a good spot but a bit of a hassle having to wait. At least that's how it's been done in the past.
I'm usually in Wednesday night in James Bond camping and I enjoy the atmosphere with some trees and a bit of quiet for sleep. I've always just chilled there and will probably continue to do so unless I get parked right behind the porto potties. If that happens I may haul my gear to Tent Only.
I only make one trip to Centeroo a day around 11 or noon and generally don't get back until 3 or 4 so the distance isn't a big deal for me. I finally tried the taxis this year and loved them so much. My trip back at the end of the night was totally pain free!!!

I agree with the general consensus of the thread. The cool thing, however, is if you show up at an early enough time, you can weigh your options depending on where you are placed.

In 08 I went and got my car from BFE early Sunday afternoon before traffic got bad with people leaving Sunday evening. They gave me no problems about it at all. We even picked some people up along the way and gave them a ride to centeroo! I pulled it right up into the edge of tent only and we still ended up staying until Monday late morning.
Last year we all tried to get our cars Monday morning and had the same problem a few others mentioned. They wouldn't let us through until the traffic cleared. It wasn't a big deal for me since I live less than an hour away, but some of our group had 15+ hour drives.
Tent only is the way to go IMHO. We always go in Wednesday evening and have all our shit ready to haul to tent only when they open the gates. 5 minute walks to and from centeroo are priceless. When you have a 30+ minute walk it's more difficult to plan on when to leave for certain shows and stuff... especially when the corn man made a visit earlier in the day

I prefer being next to my vehicle. Maybe it is because I'm from NYC, but I don't trust any MFers with my stuff. I like being able to lock my items up before I walk to the festivities. Plus, honestly, it has never felt like a 45-minute walk.

I do the same... The long walks arent that horrible. Last year we were in the very back along the tree line by the helicopter pads. The trees were great to setup under but the walks were 45 minutes to and 55 minutes coming home. We just stayed at centeroo more...
