Have any of you ever camped at Roo in one of these?
This is the best image I could find. I'm talking about the roof top tent and NOT just the shower cubicle. LOL
I'm REALLY thinking this could be a nice way to camp. I don't think that an over the side version would work considering how close you are to your neighbors but an over the end version would be cool.

I am a member of the NAXJA (Jeep Cherokee Owners Group) and the one brand that seems to be most highest rated and most favored by the adventure clique is this www.racktents.com/index.html
These guys do some SERIOUS back country off roading so they should know.
It's a little pricey but if you got the dough it's pretty cool. I'm trying desperately to use Roo as an excuse to buy one. I know it would work at Roo. I'm just trying to find some folks who have done used it at Roo and what, if any, problems they had.
Personally I would pass, if you were ever to use to for "regular" camping you could never use your vehicle to drive anywhere. I can't imaging the time it would take to assemble and disassemble that.
Are they over $1,000 ? I see that the tent only one is $800 +

Actually yes, I have one and took it to roo last year. I have the ARB Simpson II with the annex underneath.
I had it at both Wakarusa and Roo and it was great. Yes pricier than a ground based tent. My 17 year-old and I spent two weeks sleeping in last year and loved it. I can have it set up in just a few minutes if needed. Keep my blankets up there, so they are ready to go.
Benefits, up off ground - no issues with rain, has a 3" foam mattress, up above the ground and thus I was in breezes.
Cons: Cost, finding a vehicle that will support the weight and not have too soft of a suspension. Not as private as a camper, but similar to a tent camper.
You can see that this is fairly large and provides much more space below. This does not work as well if NOT mounted high enough. Many many styles and vendors all around the country.
I was just about to post about yours steelcity...you beat me to it and with pics! Dallas wants one like yours...of course we don't have a proper vehicle to hold it
