I really wanted to go a few years ago when they had Iggy and the Stooges and 3 6 Mafia. Hopefully this year it's good enough to make the trip to Memphis. Puddle of Mud is still a band? Wow.
Anyone done Memphis in May before? Curious to hear about other experiences. A friend of mine did it one year, maybe 2006 or 2007... the year with all of the lightning and torrential downpours. I think the rain made things unbearable, and she's never been back.
It depends on what the line up looks like but $65.00 isn't a bad deal for a three day pass.
Yeah I saw it, but it's not their official website (thank cheezits): "Thebealestreetmusicfestival.com is an independent site and not associated with Memphis In May, or The Beale Street Music Festival. We are just fans of the event. Our site is a celebration of what we love about Memphis!"
But check out the "Secrets" section. My personal favorite is number 1: "Guys, Wear Beads. You know what they're for, so don't give them out unless you see the goods! A smooth negotiator can get into some clubs and even get free drinks at some clubs with a few beads."
And, yes, it will rain at least one day & it will be muddy. I've gone just about every year since the early 90's & you just have to be prepared for the mud. They usually have some really good acts mixed in with whatever is popular at the moment. And it does get chilly at night since there is a breeze off of the MS. We always joke that downtown is at least 10 degrees cooler that anywhere else in Memphis because of the "river breeze".

We did it in May 2008 - it was Memphis in Mud - serious Mud - and cold cold wind coming in off the river - I doubt that I'll be back - my BFF and I took my daughter and her BFF mainly to see My Chem - the kids had a good time rain and all - but it was a cold and rainy night
Yeah. it's held in Tom Lee Park, right on the MS River, across from Mud Island. They always have 2 big stages (one on each end of the park) and then a couple of smaller stages spaced throughout the park, and a blues tent.

If this is a decent lineup, then I will probably go to at least April 30. This is going to be directly between my school the day of the last final and home, so why not?
Country star Alison Krauss and Union Station, pop-soul duo Hall & Oates, guitar hero Jeff Beck, psych-pop showmen The Flaming Lips and Stax legends Booker T. & the MGs are among the big names slated to appear as part of the 2010 Beale Street Music Festival at Tom Lee Park.
The 34th annual edition of the concert event — part of the Memphis in May International Festival — will run from April 30 to May 2. Festival organizers will announce the full lineup, including additional headliners, during an event this afternoon at Downtown's Hard Rock Café.
A complete list of performing acts will be available at GoMemphis.com and commercialappeal.com after 2 p.m. Tickets go on sale today.
Among the other artists confirmed for the festival are Memphis-connected R&B outfit Earth, Wind & Fire, Southern rock and jam favorites Drive-By Truckers and Gov't Mule, and roots-music piano man Leon Russell.
In addition, celebrity rockers 30 Seconds to Mars (led by actor Jared Leto), reunited grunge greats Alice in Chains and '90s hitmakers Blues Traveler also will appear.
Festival perennials like rock and roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis and Chicago bluesman Hubert Sumlin are slated for return engagements, while Memphis hip-hoppers Al Kapone and Yo Gotti will also perform sets.
Once again the festival will feature a sidestage Blues Shack with music provided by Hill Country veteran T-Model Ford and one-man band Richard Johnston throughout the weekend.

Yeah, mixed bag as usual. Saturday does look the best w/ Alice in Chains, Flaming Lips, North MS Allstars, Drive-By Truckers, Gov't Mule, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Blind MS Morris, & Savoy Brown (!). The only 3 I'm really liking Friday are Panic, Jeff Beck, & Mute Math. Sunday has Alison Krauss, John Hiatt, Booker T & MG's, Band of Horses, Leon Russell, Hubert Sumlin, & Sonny Landreth. Should be fun. Prepare for the mud if you go!
A hospitalization of a member of Flaming Lips has caused the band to be unable to perform at the 2010 Beale Street Music Festival. Steven Drozd of THE FLAMING LIPS has been hospitalized and will be unable to perform. Memphis in May announced that festival favorites Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi will fill the Saturday, May 1 slot voided by the Flaming Lips.
