This is going to be my first year going down. I know I'm being a little over zealous thinking about it so soon, but I'm super excited. I'm trying to figure out the best route for me to get down from Chicago.
Google maps gives me two options:
1. IL-57 to US-45, I-64E, to US-41 south. Now this is the weird part. It only has me stay on US-41 for a little while and then it leads me to something called "Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Pkwy". Is this just some funky thing in Kentucky, and is this just a highway? Or am I better off taking US-41 south all the way down to I-24 to Manchester?
2. I-294 to I-80 E to Indiana. Then 65 south through Indiana all the way to I-24 to Manchester. This sounds easier but my father told me that Indiana highways just plain suck.

And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

We live in Joliet. We have taken both ways back + down before. I would say 65 is a lot better. You may hit a little traffic near Indy, but the ride over-all seems to go a lot quicker. 57 is just waay to long and boring.
i'm going from chicago too and we'll be taking the second. indiana highways aren't bad. the road themselves aren't great but i rarely have problems with traffic. should be smooth sailing.
