Dales Pale Ale is good - pretty hoppy, but its a west coast beer 10 Fiddy is thick and heavy - def not a good choice in the heat - some people enjoy it Heard the Pils is terrible - in a "this is a shitty beer" way Old Chub is okay - smokey, malty- from what i remember. Gubna IPA - no idea, havent tried Gordon - forgot what it was like... not generally a good sign
We got really drunk on that stuff in 08 - but i think our party keg thing was bad. We decided it should have been called Cansteiner since it tasted like the can...

Does anybody know where to get good canned beer in MA? I usually drink white ales and whitbier in the summer like Blue Moon, Shock Top, and Leinenkugal . I really don't want to bring Bud Light or some other watered down beer. I really wish they made Sam Summer Ale in cans.

In the city, no.
If you are willing to drive to the burbs - Westborough
I'm a fan of overly hoppy beers. For what it's worth I'say of the Oskar Blues I've had;
1. Dales - one of the best American PAs on the market. 2. Gordon - A relatively modest IPA, good for what itis. 3. Pils- pretty good. Light and crsp pilsner. 4. Old Chub - I hated it, not a fan of that type of beer at all.
That's all I've had. Also , Gordon is ridiculousy priced at $12 for 4 cans.

FINALLY!!! My kind of thread on Inforoo! I am a homebrewer and an uber-beer geek. Beers I can recommend: Cisco Whale's Tail Pale Ale (recently in cans, solid drinkin' beer), ANYTHING from New England Brewing Company (Haig, the now retired amber, all solid beers) and most from Oskar Blues (Gubna is a mess, don't buy it not worth the money, yella pils not any better, everything else is good) and as just mentioned, Harpoon in cans should be a solid choice.
Another not yet mentioned; 21st amendment. The IPA is a good example of the West Coast style, Watermelon ale is a thirst quencher and if you want something with depth, Monk's Blood is a great belgian style beer.
I'm also going to risk it and bring some homebrew too...I have an amber/saison hybrid and an IPA brewed with Citra hops, a pound of honey and zest of grapefruit. If anyone is interested, come by and try some! Also, bring beer from your region, love trying new beer and I may bring some interesting stuff down myself if we could get a nice beer gathering goin
I've only skimmed this thread because I can barely contain my excitement ... I'm not a huge beer drinker but while I was at the Indy 500 last weekend (big racing event for those not familiar) I saw huge banners at the liquor store across the street from the racetrack for Blue Moon, Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, and Fat Tire all in cans!! Blue Moon and Summer Shandy are my favorite beers so I'm super excited I can take them to Bonnaroo now!!

The Oskar Blues family is the way to go. Mama's Little Yella Pills for when it's super hot, the flavorful ones for the rest of the time.
Love Oskar Blue's! I would recommend their Old Chub in a can. A delicious dark Scottish Ale. Yum!
Seconding this. It is by far the best beer I have had in a can and it is up there with total favorites. Already added a case of it to my packing list. (yes I realize its way to early to have a list, but I like making lists. So sue me)

I am seconding everyone who said Oskar Blues and Fat Tire (not sure if you can find other New Belgium beers in a can). I am originally from California but I lived in CO for 5 years and you can't beat the Colorado micobreweries

These have gotten me through two Roos and we will be bringing a bunch down this year too. One of the best cheap canned lagers going. I'm definitely a craft-brewed bottle beer fan but have to concede that sometimes you need a thirst quenching can to rehydrate in the Tennessee heat.
I am driving down from Toronto and I had a few questions about beer down in the South. It seems that my first question (which beers do you reco' in TN).
- What are prices like? Up here I pay close to $50.00 for a case of cans - Will I be able to buy beer in the middle of the night or early in the morning? (We are driving through the night on the Wednesday). I dont want to get stuck buying beer at Bonnaroo. - Last question...How much does a big bottle of Vodka go for and is it sold in the same place as the beer?

i live in lexington, ky which you will probably pass through on the way to TN via I 75, but i can answer some of these for you
Prices - way cheaper. A 30 pack of bud/miller lite is 21.99+tax here (american dollars, but thats still way cheaper)
Times - vary by county and state here. The difference of a few miles can make the difference between being able to buy beer from 7 or 8am - 230am (i think liquor sales end at 1am?) and being in a "dry" county with no alcohol sales permitted any time. they may allow sales later, the further north you go, but i have no idea.
Vodka - if you want bottom rung vodka, you can get a 1.75L plastic bottle for around $11. You can buy beer pretty much anywhere in ky if that county allows sales (gas stations, drug stores, liquor stores, grocery stores) but you can only buy liquor and wine at liquor stores (and some drug stores like Rite Aid - which will also sell beer and many other things. Once you get into tennessee, i'm pretty sure grocery stores carry wine, but just remember to get boxed wine bc of the no glass rule

We drive down from Toronto and buy all of our beer at duty free. I can't remember exactly how much it is, but it's cheaper. Allowance is two cases per person and we always end up giving some away at the festival and bringing some back.
And yes, beer, wine and liquor are expensive up here.

Last I looked the Canadian dollar was worth more than the American dollar and it's supposed to stay close all year. This is going to make it a much cheaper year for Canadians to do Roo.
Didn't check and see if anyone else brought this up. But this stuff is REALLY good even in can form.
EDIT: just read the other 3 pages of the thread and realize my post is pretty much useless......that'll happen.
seconded, not sure how widespread it is, but you can find this pretty much anywhere in PA, NJ, DE, MD, and Ive seen it as far south as the Carolinas. Very easy drinking lager, not too heavy for the heat, and very flavorful

This^^, Beer in Ontario is crazy expensive. Even here in Quebec where everything is taxed to hell beer is a hell of a lot cheaper.
Ya our prices in Ontario suck. I had no idea it was so much cheaper to buy alcohol in the US though 30 cans for less than 40 dollars wha?? I was going to buy a bunch of stuff from the LCBO where I work before I left. But there is no point if prices are that much lower.
