The name speaks for it's self.
I keep getting the feeling that some of our mods are too busy doing whatever to give this board (and it's members) the attention it needs and desreves. Some of the people currently in these positions only log-in and post every few weeks (or less) and some haven't posted anything in years. I personally don't think it's possible to be an effective moderator if you only check-in every now and then. And, honestly, if they have that little concern for the day-to-day operations of Inforoo, why would they even want to stay on? Other than some ego-trip nonsense, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Regardless if you agree 100% with my assesment of our current situation or not, don't you think that we, the people who actively make-up this board, deserve to be represented by one (or more) of our own? Absentee mods who just fly back into town every now and then to shake hands and kiss babies aren't owning-up to what they were chosen to do and, more importantly, aren't giving the members of this community the respect we all deserve. This is our board, our community and I don't think it's right or fair for people who, at this point, have relegated themselves to outsiders to continue governing us out of simple obligation or sheer boredom.
I think it's time for some new blood! What about you guys?
*And, just to be perfectly clear, I am not trying to pitch myself for a mod position. I have no desire at all, but at least I can admit it.
EDIT: Now they've even locked the entire thread about the secret VIP board because some of our members had the nerve to voice their opinions and displeasure at being put on the backburner in favor of another message board! This is turning into a police state! So, eventhough I have broken NO RULES whatsoever with this poll, I will most likely be banned. Is that right? I was just voicing my opinon and asking a question that I know for a fact is on other members' minds. Is this what you guys signed-up for? Is this how things should be done? Well, if I do get banned, hopefully you guys won't forget what happened and how it happened. Someting is definitely broken here and I hope one of you keeps trying to fix it. Peace.

I think everything runs fine as it is, so why bother messing with it. Overall inforoo is probably the tamest forum that I visit, there aren't really any problems here and minimal moderation is needed. There is a mod presence still, and while some of the mods haven't even signed on for a while as you say, I know they add more mods as they think they need them. So while someone may be listed as a mod, there may already be a replacement on here for them. The mod title just was never taken away from the mod who doesn't frequent any longer.
Edit: And while I didn't see the last few posts of that other board thread, I am kinda disappointed it was taken down. While there was some petty name calling in it, there was also some pretty funny banter. Like I said, though, even that was allowed to go on longer than it would on most boards.

So, If you're right, you're cool with an annonymous "shadow" governing of this forum?

It mostly isn't "shadows" who mod, but still doesn't bother me. We know who the mods are, and its generally pretty apparent who the more active ones are. Anytime someone gets one of their threads closed their feelings will be hurt, it is the way of the internet forum. Let me ask you this, are you a member of a lot of other boards? If so, how do you think the moderating compares to those?
Edit: I actually just checked and almost all the mods have logged in very recently. Even Adam logged in this month. It is understandable that they don't post very much, with this many people there isn't much to say. I mostly just post in the other tent now myself, and that is not how i got to over 4500 posts.

I'm a memeber of four other message boards. Some are more lenient and at least one is more restrictive, but that doesn't matter. What I'm asking is this: Shouldn't we be moderated by some of our own, people who are actual members of our community? If you're a mod shouldn't you have the decency to show-up for work? Won't non-official, pseudo-mods just add to the confusion when they attempt to police things and be rendered ineffective? What's the point in being a mod if you aren't actually going to do your job? What's the point in having a whole bunch of Dwight Schrute motherfuckers running around? Don't you think that we, INFOROO, should have some ammount of input on who's governing us?

I think it is natural to think the grass is greener on the other side. I just don't know who all these "obviously better as a mod" members are. Like I said, almost all the mods have logged on in the past two days, and I believe I have personally met all of them at some point or another at bonnaroo. These guys are still a part of this community. When there are so many members they don't have as many reasons to post, though. I will say that some of the locks in this board are sometimes a bit more internally motivated than some others, but I think that is due to the nature of the threads here. They are a lot more personal and serious than on most boards, and also cover a very broad spectrum.
I just don't know who all these "obviously better as a mod" members are.
I never said that. If you're going to use quotation marks, you should probably put them around an actual quote. I'm not saying that anyone would be "obviously better" than the guys now in charge. I am, however, saying that there are a good deal of memebers who I sincerely believe would be more dedicated and attentive.

A police state? Dude, are you kidding me?
I love our mods. Although they are most definitely not as present as they have been in past years, they're still awesome people and they do the best they can. However, maybe there should be a new mod or two appointed, who are more prominent members around the board, at this time. I understand completely that folks get busy or jaded with the bickering or whatever, but I do remember a time when a lot of mods were every day, volume posters, and it was nice. But either way, just as everything else, it's ultimately up to our mods, they hold their positions (and have, for a long time) for a reason.
Not at all. Quashing dissention and deleting entire threads for no rational reason is pretty disturbing, in my opinion.
But I promise that I am not here to argue with fellow members at all. I'm just trying to figure-out if you guys agree that we, at the very least, need to add some new people to the government of our little community.
EDIT: I'm out for the rest of the night, folks. I started a new book last night and I want to read a chapter or two before I go to bed. Peace.

I have no problem adding new mods if the current ones feel it necessary, but I see absolutely no reason to replace the ones that are in place. Also, I went back and read the end of the other board thread that was closed and see why it was. When you start calling out names and basically calling the mods lazy and bad at their positions that is enough to close a thread that has really no point of being open in the first place. If a group of people want to discuss a disruptive topic so badly the mods do not moderate pm's. At that point in the thread a lot of personal attacks and insults were being thrown around and it makes pretty good sense as to why it was closed.

They did not delete it - it got locked which moved it to the bottom of the page - that's what happens when a thread gets locked.
and I have to chime in a say that most of the mods - more than likely logged in recently because of that thread yesterday - it happens.
I'm fine with our mods the way they are - they can do what they want - Inforoo is not the way it was when I first started posting on here and it never will be - things change.
I am on other boards - I am an admin on other boards - it's not an easy job and - hey - news flash people - there is a real world out there - mods have lives and are not connected to the computer all day long!!!!

Why don't you go create a infoking board where you can be in charge and run it as you see fit. Also just to remind you inforoo is not a democracy, you cant just vote in a new mods.
I know almost every mod on here personally, and I think they do a great job, to sit there and gripe at the people who run this board for is just ridiculous.

I think they could probably clean the threads up a bit, but I think they do a pretty good job. Maybe add Juggs just so he could rule with an iron fist, but that may piss others off. I think it would be hilarious.

New mods is rarely a good idea. I like the leniency that these mods give us, and frankly I don't who you think would do a better job. But I do wish they would take that picture out of your sig. It bothers me.
G King, you obviously have a skewed idea of how mods become mods. For the record, I was a regular member for close to a year and was asked by the staff if I wanted to mod. I accepted the position. So I am "one of you (us)" according to you.
As Jesse said, this not a democracy!
You were calling out Adam in the other thread. Dude, Adam CREATED this board and he is the end all be all of decisions, if you cant deal with THAT, then you need to find somewhere else to gripe. If not for Adam, NONE of us would be here.
Now look, we have already had multiple problems with you. you have warned, banned, brought back and given chances. You obvisoulsy dont like the way thigns are ran around here, but I got news for you G, nothings changing simply because you want it to. And if you think you are gonna start some kind of revolution around here, I think you may have a poor understanding of where most members stand.
IF, IF, yeah I said if, we decide to bring another mod or two, WE will decide when that time is right, not you or any other members.
On top of that, one thing you need to learn is that you will achieve much greater results by PM'ing us with your issues rather than posting a bitchthread for the whole board to read. I know I know, you already tried the PM route, but when you write us PM's that are as long as a book and accuse us of basically being Stalin in those PM's that aint gonna get you anywhere either.
I quit PM'ing you back because I realized that it was futile with you, no one will make you happy, no matter what we do.
You are no different than the hundreds of other disgruntled memberes that have cried over one thing or the other, you not getting anything changed by going about it the way you do.
Sorry man, this is reality.
Oh, and if you want to complain aboutmods not being around, as some of the others have said, we have lives outside of inforoo. I like to think that I am on here quite often, I check in everyday, but rarely post anymore. Someone PM's me and I will check into it.
I have a wife a 17yo son and a 15yo daughter, a full time job, a mortgage blah blah blah. But I find the time to get on here as often as possible.
One thing we have done as mods that none of the other boards I frequent have done is made a true effort to meet, in person, as many people as we can. the brunch is a great opportunity for this. I think once you have met someone in person, it make is a lot harder to bash them online. Maybe you should come to the brunch and hang with all of us, share a bowl and a laugh and you amy get a better idea of who the men (and lady) behind the curtain really are.

It is funny that about once a year someone starts this voting in new mods thing. Nothing like people who just feel entitled to run everything just because they know it exists. I am going to go down to Starbucks later and tell them I am voting myself in as manager because I like to drink their coffee so I should have the input on how it is made.
if you get banned, we will miss your loss forever.
no, not really.
the mods here do a fine job. nearly every time i *post* in a thread asking for a mod to do something, it gets done. I'm too lazy to pm them, so i can understand when things get missed.
they cant be slacking too much if they respond to random posts at odd hours.
whatever, blah, it's just the internet. Leo forever. god bless tiene and his fine, fine contribution to bunny / the VIP group in 2008. wooz for prez. roofan is the bees knees.
how about you meet these folks in person before you spew noxious vitriol all over the place.

Jesse, I'm sorry, but this seems like a really silly analogy to me. If the manager at Starbucks only showed up once every day or two for fifteen minutes, he'd be fired within a couple of days. And if you go to Starbucks every day, and you have a legitimate complaint about the way it's run, I would guess that the higher ups at Starbucks would welcome your input. Are they going to make every change that every customer suggests? Obviously not. Does that mean they don't want customer input? Obviously not.
Personally, I don't really care all that much about who our mods are. I think there are a couple of mods who don't ever come around here, for whatever reason, and might ought to be replaced because of that. It's not a judgment on those people. They obviously just have other priorities, and that's fine, but I don't understand why one would continue being a mod if he doesn't have the time or interest to actually be around. In the end, though, I don't really see that much need for mod supervision here (although I generally stick to the Other Tent anymore), so it doesn't really matter to me.
^Good point I am trying to think of an analogy that takes into account people trying to change the leadership of a free service that provides a benefit to them, but so far I am drawing a blank.
I think the mods still do a reasonably good job keeping the place tight, on any given day 4 or so will have logged on, and looked things over. There is less thread locking going on,but lets be fair the traffic here is maybe 50% of last years if that, and people ust are not starting new threads on the same subject every day like the used to.

I don't think we need new mods, I think we need new attitudes about Inforoo. This board has gone from the coolest site on the internet to just another message board with people bitching and complaining over petty differences without any real discussions anymore. But I guess that's life. I'll just stick to PT for my daily arguing and bitching. At least they are good at it.
