I think it's funny how you guys shut-down any thread that even remotely threatens your superiority. I think it's funny that Wooz said he was locking the original thread because it was in the wrong place, when he easily could've moved it. I also think it's funny how, eventhough that thread has been locked, roofanintn still had to open it back up just long enough to thumb his nose at me. Mature, man. Real mature. And, FYI, a mod DOES NOT constitute a tribe, my friend.
Anyway. Since I was right in the middle of a rebuttal, I'm going to continue what I was saying and to defend myself against some of the obviously misdirected arguments:
Well, I can't imagine how people can be content to be managed by mods who are so rarely around that they aren't familiar with a good deal of the members that make-up the daily hustle and bustle of today's Inforoo. As far as the argument that no one should judge the actions of another until meeting said person face-to-face goes, couldn't the same reasoning be used to argue that you shouldn't judge posters until you've actually spent time with them online? How can you get an accurate picture or feeling for who a person is and how to address them, in good times and bad, if you haven't been around enough to actually get to know them and understand what's going on? Look, people. I'm not calling for a completely new roster or anything. I didn't even vote for "Replace Them All", if you'll notice. I'm not calling for something as shockingly democratic (gasp!) as a board-wide vote. And I'm clearly not trying to become the newest manager a Starbucks (but that sure was clever, Jess). I'm saying that, well-intentioned or not, for whatever reason, some of the mods don't spent much time here. In my opinion, some of the mods don't spend enough time here. (Yeah. I know, my opinion means nothing here. Community, right?) What I am pretty obviously saying is that, if all of the mods actually believe that they are doing their jobs as effectively as they can, THE MODS should at least consider adding someone new to the line-up. Someone who is excited enough and active enough to really handle the day-to-day banter and bs that make-up the true body of this board. Someone to report back to the existing hierarchy and help them make more informed desicions. Sure. You guys certainly have the power to ignore my views and shoot-down my idea, and I fully expect that you will do just that, but I implore you not to shelf ideas and constructive criticism simply because you have a problem with the person who offers them. Or, even worse, please don't ignore ideas out of entitled arrogance. This board and it's people deserve better than that.
We have 4 pretty active mods in roofan, Jay, Dan, crazykitten, most get on here at least once a day, and considering how dead the board is this year that seems like more than enough. The others wooz, teine, etc... have been very active in the past but now do not get on as much however I do not think they deserve a demotion because of that, and they all are the people who helped this board grow into what it has become.
My question to you without trying to be a smartass is, what do you think needs to be modded that is not getting done? I have never had an issue on this board that was not addressed inside of 24 hours myself. I am sure if Dirty Jerzee thinks he needs more help he will ask for it, and if not he will leave things the way they are he is a pretty reasonable individual. I am not saying the board is perfect, but I have not seen any real trouble in awhile except for last nights thread. In all fairness that topic has consistently been one of the most acrimonious over the years, and it likely was best to go on and shut it down.

The thing is, not many think it's necessary to have more moderation. The mods who are here do a good job of staying out of our way, or intervening if necessary.

Well, man. Here goes nothing. 1. I'm not neceessarily calling for any demotions. If the powers that be want to keep everyone on, they should at least consider ADDING new people. People who actually have the time and desire to do the job, as I have already said a mind-boggling number of times. 2. I have no doubt that the current council has been an important part of the progression of this board, but that doesn't change the fact the board keeps progressing everyday. Don't you think it makes sense that the leadership should to? Otherwise all we have is stagnation. 3. Recently, CrazyKittenSmile warned me that if I didn't chill-out, I would be banned. She made some good points and I agreed that I had been being a smurf. Anyone who cares to look should be able to notice a drastic change in my online attitude around that time. Then, eventhough I had made friends with old enemies, stopped being a tool and was being constructive memeber on this board, I was banned. No warning and no explanantion, just banned. Several days later, I decided to check back in and I saw that I had been reinstated. Again, no reason or explanation, just "Welcome back, but watch your ass.". I asked roofan what I was banned for and, if it was ban-worthy, why I was un-banned (his word, not mine) just days later. His only response was "Thanks for understanding.". I told him that I didn't understand and I asked again why, if I had promptly heeded CKS's warning and changed my ways, why I had been banned (weeks later) without another warning. He offered no explanation, but did have to nerve to tell me that I had been a smurf in the past and I should just be happy to be back now. Banning people without rhyme or reason (then apparently realizing your error and reinstating them without explanation or apology), without even being able to give a specific reason, indicates a problem with the current system. 4. I know for a fact that at least three other members have had other (granted less severe) problems with the management over the past month or two, but they can speak for themselves if they want to. And since I'm still not the Belle of this Ball, I can only imagine that there are some other people around who feel neglected and disillusioned with the current state of things, but haven't shared their concerns with me. That was the point of my poll; to invite people to speak-up if they thought they were being under-represented too. 5. If the desire for "new mods" has been a recurring problem in the past, that just speaks to the fact that there is, indeed, an ongoing desire for change on this board.
Anything else?

Whatever - the mods do a good job, and while I definitely don't agree with a lot of their decisions, ultimately they are their decisions to make. This isn't a democracy, it's a private business. If you don't like the way it's run, you don't have to come to the board - it's as simple as that. If you think you can come up with a better way of running a forum, no one's stopping you from starting your own message board. Basically, it's the same as any other business. Remember, no one's forcing you to visit Inforoo, you're coming here on your own accord. If you've got such a problem with it all, the strongest message you can send would be to simply stop coming on here. Until then, it's their board and their rules, and if you choose to come here, you implicitly agree to post on their terms. If you don't like something, you can politely and privately address a mod with your issue, but if they decide not to change anything, well, tough sh*t - it's their decision to make, and not yours.
I haven't read this entire thread but listen up: Last year it was all the whiney-whine about the boards being modded TOO MUCH....this year the whiney whine is about TOO LITTLE modding! Get over it. If you have a that much of a problem with the board then don't log in. Period. No one is putting a gun to anyone's head and making you participate.
Whatever - the mods do a good job, and while I definitely don't agree with a lot of their decisions, ultimately they are their decisions to make. .
That's my point. The board decisions are up to the mods, but if they themselves admit they're too busy to give this board their full attention, maybe they need some new mod help when being faced with future decisions. It's really a win/win thing.

Well, that is pretty simple. I'll give you that. Or I could offer suggestions, give differing viewpoints and voice outrage when I feel it's appropriate. You know, like a community. I know it's not a democracy, but does it have to be a dictatorship? This whole "Deal with it or quack off" mentality can't be what this board was created for.

Well, you're right about one thing. It is their rules, but isn't it our board? I don't know about you guys, but I signed-up for a Bonnaroo message board for the free exchange of ideas and the sense of community that I feel when I'm on the farm. Sure. They are in charge, but shouldn't we have some meaningful input?
If you don't like something, you can politely and privately address a mod with your issue,
As I have already stated, I tried to privately discuss my concerns with a mod...and I was completely ignored. So, I took the next logical step: I took it public. If they want things kept behind closed doors, the mods should be willing to actually deal with those things behind said doors.

Okay. You guys are right. What was I thinking? This board is absolutely perfect the way it is now. I can't believe that I was foolish enough to think that there could be any way to improve things. I can't believe I let myself get uppity enough to suggest something that is so clearly and unequivocally unneeded. I now realize that everyone else, but me, is content with how things are being handled. That I am, in fact, an alarmist and a fool. I'm so, so sorry for wasting everyone's time with my thoroughly misguided and blatantly democratic agenda. My dangerous scheme has been thwarted and I have been quite succinctly put back in my place. The people have spoken and I am too embarassed to even look them in their eyes. I think we should all just put this ugliness behind us and move on. This thread should probably be locked before any more rabble rousing commences. I don't know what got into me. I am sorry. Though I am not worthy, I beg your forgiveness. And That's All I Have To Say About That.

Maybe - but that's their decision to make if they choose so. To use the private business analogy again, what you're doing is akin to if I went into my local convenience store and told the owners they needed to hire more people because I wasn't happy with how quickly or effectively they were tending to my needs. Personally, I think the mods do a great job. Considering they all have lives and careers outside of this message board, I think they're actually pretty good with how fast they respond to users. I can't speak about the problems you've had with getting your private messages answered since I don't know all the details about that (and what little I do know comes entirely from one side), but remember that this board has nearly 10,000 members, hundreds of whom are active on a daily or near-daily basis (at least during the on-season). So it's understandable if they can't tend to everyone's problems immediately, but all things considered, I think they do a good job and address most problems in a timely manner.

You definitely could, and others have. Check out the Sonic Stage sub-forum for some examples of how others have made suggestions in the past that the mods have later implemented. The issue wasn't with what you were suggesting, it's with how you were suggesting it.
Well, you're right about one thing. It is their rules, but isn't it our board?
No, actually, it's not. The board doesn't belong to you or me or any other poster who's not a mod. Just because someone enjoys the board and comes here often, that doesn't mean they have any right to dictate how it's run.
As I have already stated, I tried to privately discuss my concerns with a mod...and I was completely ignored. So, I took the next logical step: I took it public. If they want things kept behind closed doors, the mods should be willing to actually deal with those things behind said doors.
As I said above, since your interactions were via private messages I can't comment on this. However, the way you addressed your issues could have been in a way that seemed less... attacking, for lack of a better word.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with the four emergency exits on this thread...one door at the front through which you entered, two over the wing exits at row 8 and one rear door at the back of the thread. In the case of an emergency, the lighting in this thread will illuminate with white lights leading to red lights leading to the exits. Please keep in mind that your nearest emergency exit may be to your rear. ;D

wow...I guess I am confused...
Is this board that life-or-death important that we need more mods up here? I would say not. Are there things that I disagree with? Yes, but i move on (kinda like the Roo, if you don't like a certain thread or topic, there is always another one). I do think this board is ran pretty smoothly over all. Would adding an additional mod hurt, prob. not but who really has the time?
I have never encountered any "warnings" from mods. I come up here, have a good time, get some info and then move on. Pretty simple stuff and I think a great job is being done. I am not "in the loop" like some, but feel blessed to get to come up here and enjoy posts and stories about a festival I love.

Ahhh - I needed this entertainment tonight.. does anyone want to buy a teenager????
haha Meg...I can throw one in for a two-fer deal!
I missed whatever drama led to this discussion and I suppose I'm glad I did. I have a good time on Inforoo and learn a lot, and think I'm making at least a couple of friends while doing it. Isn't that what it's all about....
you couldn't pay me enough to mod a board like this with all these characters (myself included of course). I'm sure it's impossible to do without pissing someone off every now and then.
