Yeah, if you show up any time within the "normal" range of arrival times, there is absolutely no way to predict where you will be. Somewhere we've got a huge list of what time people arrived, what entrance they used, and where they ended up but really the only thing we learned from that is that there is NO pattern.
Basically they've got tens of thousands of cars coming in from multiple entrances for at least a 24 hour period, and the traffic is already horrible....so they have to make it as unpredictable as possible. When some people are already waiting in line in their cars for hours upon hours...can you imagine what it would be like if people figured out that a certain entrance or a certain arrival time resulted in better campsites? Chaos!
I wasn't in BFE last year but I was pretty far out, about a 30 minute walk away. Although it was a bit of a long walk, I really enjoyed it because I met SO MANY people along that walk and saw so many things that I would have missed otherwise. The walk ended up being an adventure all in itself.

We were a little late to get in line. We got in line a little before noon and the police motioned us to go the back alley type road.. We were in line a little over 7 hours and we were placed in BFE. About 15 steps from my tent I could touch the fence. I believe it was Camp Andrew Clark past Blueberry Road. About a good 45 minute walk to centeroo.
i always get put in BFE all four years i went, I'll almost be disappointed if I don't get put there this year. Its a hell of a walk but it just forces me to stay in centeroo all day and night.

I can't force myself to sit in my car for 8 hrs after a 13 hour drive straight through. Plus idling that long? Bad for the earth, bad for your lungs. Oh...and your wallet. F that

^ I totally understand about sitting in the car for hours upon hours. I think the only thing that kept us sane were making friends in the lines and getting out of the car as much as possible. The cops usually drove by from time to time to tell us to get back in our cars but after they left we just got back out. Plus a couple of neighbors that live next to bonnaroo were handing out beverages and letting some of us use the bathroom.

Yeah I hear ya, sounds doable. Just would run my patience dry I think. Camping in BFE wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Plus I got some good sleep in out there. Quiet at night. And the more I think about it, the more I realized I would have been an angry camper if I got no sleep.

That's the one plus side about BFE. More room and it's definitely quieter. But even though I was camped out there I could still hear the music, just softer.. Falling asleep to Paul Oakenfold was great.

this back alley road is 1 i hope i NEVER get stuck taking into ROO.
i've heard nothing but bad things (camped in BFE, long wait in your car).
did the cops say follow us or else?? or did you have no idea where they were taking you??

yeah BFE is boss. the walk really isn't that bad, unless you are frequenting to your campsite like 10 times a day. More peaceful, more space. What more could you ask for?

Since it was my first time....no, I had no idea where they were leading me. haha We were on the highway and there was a huge sign that said "Bonnaroo Traffic exit now" (the line for roo was on the other side of the highway)And it made us turn left over the bridge and allll the way on some back road and then it led BACK onto the highway and then back into the gate...I'm really not sure if it was the main gate.. But it was ridiculous. I've read that to just just not take that exit...go father and turn around and join the main line which is on the highway, I'm guessing? I need to look at the map again. haha

We got off on 127 at about 7am and they made us take the back roads in. We must have gotten lucky, because we were rerouted up the road the goes by the Walmart and got back on the high just South of 112. We were setting up camp in the midday down pour. Taking that same backroad in saved us a crap load of time.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
100% chance of sitting in a long ass line and missing half of thursday cause they don't start letting you in til bout noon on thursday and unless you have been waiting in line for 12 hours already by that point you won't be any where near the front of the line. BFE people have a lot of fun cause we have been there since wednesday night! We get to party with the extra money we saved by not going vip.

hah!
2007 was at the dopey hotel...pretty much as you described. 2008 was probably the best for getting into vip, although worst organized once you got in. last year was a major cf getting into vip. they ran out of wristbands. at 10:30 am. when it opened at 10:00 am.
this year i am visiting a friend in nashville a few days before the festival so i'll be needing/wanting to turn around at exit 127.
my plan is to leave nashville no later than 6am on thursday.
hopefully i will be able to do the turn around at exit 127 before the cut off time.
If you're coming from Nashville, I would recommend avoiding the interstate and taking highway 41 or another backroad. Once you hit Manchester, it's a breeze to get in line. In 08, we waited in line for less than an hour; last year we waited about two hours.... and that delay was due to the storm that closed the tollbooths. I always leave Nashville around 6am, stop for ice and breakfast, and am in Manchester around 8am.

i ask b/c i'm not familiar with 41. have entered the ROO from 24 or bushy branch rd all 4 yrs i've attended.

I don't remember missing a thing the years I've gone. Stayed in VIP every year. Also, don't remember ever having to walk more than five minutes to any stage. Then there was the air condition tents and bathrooms any time I needed. Forget something at camp and a few minute later you're back in centeroo. BFE, you can kiss an hour goodbye. As far as cost, it's all what you can afford.
