Wow, the festival with the most arrogant and rude creators just had to win, huh? Oh well, not your fault, GL. You did an amazing job. If you do decide to do this again next year, though, I'd try and prevent these Bolla Bolla guys from entering. They completely ruined the spirit of the contest with their hyper-competitiveness and instigation.
Whoever made Bolla Bolla, I highly recommend you remain anonymous. You're despicable. Everyone else, great job!

I was Full Arbor (if anyone couldn't guess from the final vote posts). I was so bummed that I missed the contest last year, I actually made this poster and schedule before Bonnaroo 2009. I just had to wait a year to summit it.
I am excited I got 2nd because there were so many great festivals. Personally, the 2 festivals I was worried about knocking me out were Jungle Fever & Bolla Bolla... & I went up against both .
You did a great job GL...and NoDeperession when he took over for a weekend.

I was Jumbled Jukebox and I can finally tell everyone that the program I used automatically corrected Band names (Kult in stead of Cult and Lynyrd Skynyrd were both screwd up because of it) that I submitted on my poster. Had fun, liked it and learned next year that if i do it that it is more of a poster contest and not to include information such as ticket prices, camping, VIP, etc. etc.
Congrats to Bolla Bolla and all the rest of the fine posters.

Well this is one drama I missed. Not sure how there was dirty play. I voted for the one I liked the most, and it won. Nothing anyone said or did made me vote a certain way.
as if everyone didn't already know, i worked with boothead on bolla bolla. i did most of the lineup(boot helped add the heady jamz) and all of the schedule, he made it look good. thanks everyone for voting!
Jack download Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space.
That was my other shortcoming - failing to realize the scope a particular artist's fanbase. I have a whopping total of three songs by them - "Ladies and Gentlemen...", "Death Take Your Fiddle" and "Angel Sigh". I guess I will definitely have to investigate further. Thanks for the tip!

There was an account made during the first round that had the name of one of the festivals submitted. It appears they voted and deleted the account, although I can't say that for fact; as it's unsure of what exactly happened.
I've got some ideas running for next years. I'm sure that after awhile I'll start getting some advice from you all.
That is if you don't mind me doing this again, next year.

my only complaint/criticism for the whole thing is this...should it not just be called "Create a poster" not "Create a Festival"? I actually came up with camping restrictions, VIP setup and things that come with getting VIP, cost for both GA and VIP, what to bring, Days to camp, other activities such as food booths and vendors and other extras because I thought it was create-a-festival and you needed all that to create a festival
Not to sound like a sore loser, but the person who beat me in the first round did not even have festival dates (the third requirement listed). This contest was more about posters, which is fine in its own right, but not that much about creating a "festival".
So next year can we call it the Lineup Poster contest or something to that nature? Again, I am happy for all who participated. I did not figure I would win but when I saw how little of the "extras" was included in almost all the other entries, I was very surprised.

I think the same problem that exists with the lineup portion of the contest would be an even bigger issue when taking activities and features into consideration. Just like some people go way overboard with the big name artists on their lineup, there's no great way to regulate or place limits on what is or what is not allowed to be included in terms of activities. Otherwise, next year everyone better be on the lookout for my fest. It'll be the one with $5 shuttle rides to the moon and free Vietnamese hookers for everybody.
Oh, and it shouldn't be called "create a poster" regardless of the situation. Just like real life, the festival creators can only take their best guess at what is going to attract people, then it's up to the voters to decide what aspects are most important to them. I think the participants were already confused enough this year with only a few specifications needing to be met, so I'd hate to see what a mess things would if we were to add more required components.

well first off, your "extras" should require basic common sense and logic, this would eliminate "$5 shuttle rides to the moon and free Vietnamese hookers for everybody." Basic common sense would tell you to add things that could be presentable and actually done at a festival. Have you ever been to a 3-4 day festival where there was only bands playing? Heck even ICP has other things going on at their Gathering of the Juggalos than just bands.
Btw, I commend Banhammer for the Space Shuttle launch idea, as I thought that was brillant, original and actually could be done (weather permitting)
And I agree about the confusion, someone was so confused they forgot to put dates on their poster. Guess it was "just show up and hope and pray you picked the right weekend" kinda festival. Btw, to reiterate, said poster got passed the first round (over me no less but to be honest, their poster was better).
I truly think most people judged strictly on the poster but I may be wrong....thus I still believe "create a festival" should become Lineup Poster Contest.

I think I may have come off like an ass, haha, which I wasn't trying to do but it happens to me pretty often. Your points are very well taken.
I do think, though, that you are giving people a little too much credit with the "common sense & logic" thing, regarding both the participants and the voters. This year Sangreal and I were expecting there to be a change from last year, where everyone had 10 headliners and Floyd & Zeppelin reunions and so on and so forth. We were wrong. Multiple posters this year had 100+ acts crammed into 3 day festivals, and at least one of those festivals advanced to the second round. And just like last year, people ate it up
I think that we sometimes assume that the voters are putting as much thought into their decisions as we are into creative process. It's wishful thinking, of course, but I am guilty of it myself. Personally, I think you are on the right track and that festival logistics and etc. should play a larger part in the contest, but I'm just not sure if it's feasible at all when IMO some voters already seem to have trouble evaluating all of the criteria even when there's only 3-4 things to consider.
