Hi everyone,
2010 will be my first time to the festival and I have a question I'm hoping you can help with. My friends and I unfortunately need to leave on Sunday morning, ideally 9ish. I've heard, however, that it's near impossible to get out of the grounds early because of all the tents and the way cars are packed in.
Does anyone have any experience leaving early? Can you advise on what we should do? One thought we've had is that perhaps we could find a way to park in a day parking lot and pitch our tent in the tent only area. Would this be possible?
Finally, if we're fortunate enough to get on the road by 9-9:30 on Sunday morning, how long do you think it will take for us to get back to the Chattanooga area? One of the guys in our group wants to catch a flight out of the Chattanooga airport around noon but is worried we won't be able to get him there on time.
You can certainly leave your car in day parking and carry in to tent only, this is actually my plan. If you do go to the campgrounds make sure you tell all your neighbors your plans, and try to have a route figured out Sat afternoon, because not many people are at their best after Sat night Bonnaroo. Also if you are only leaving for one person you might check craigslist rideshare and see if someone else can drop him off in Chatti.

Thanks for the quick response! No, actually all of us have to get back to our real lives on Monday, which means spending Sunday on the road home. One of our group just happens to be flying home.
If we park in a day parking lot on Thursday morning, how long can we keep our car there? Would it be a problem to leave it there until we need to leave on Sunday? Will it be relatively easy to get out of the day lot at that point?

great sounds good. I've got to get back to work on Monday too so I know I would have to leave on Sunday. I've only got a 3 hour drive til I get home though so I wouldn't have to leave too early.

make friends with your neighbors and begin to ask around on saturday afternoon. you will need to catch several people at their tents so dont wait til sunday morning. i left one time sunday noon and the rest of the time sunday night. people begin taking down their tents sunday afternoon and once that starts you can really get an idea of how you can best get out. i wonder if you could park all your cars in your group in behind each other? so instaed of parking side by side you wuold ask the parking person if you could line up your groups cars. this would allow you a better chance of getting out as some of the cars blocking you would be your own cravan...if that make sense
Last year we left Sunday around 5p ish. We were only a few cars away from the road, say maybe 5 cars in. We just asked the one group closest to the road if they could please move their tent so that we could get out which they had no problem with. The 2 cars directly next to us went to Tent Only so we had no problem there. There was only one tent in our way and we hadnt seen the owners the whole weekend so we CAREFULLY moved their tent over and then we were good to go!
^I have never heard of anyone getting stuck in there that late on a Sunday.
I'll be the first. At Roo '07 we were on the chain link fence (on Bushy Branch right in front of the white house at the end of shakedown) only problem is we were smack dab in the middle. We packed up Sunday morning, caught a few acts and were ready to leave at 3pm. We didn't end up getting off the property untill 2am.
So I'd say it's a crap shoot. I would had had to "gently" move about 20 sites to make it to the road which just couldn't happen.
Now I take Monday off and see what I can groundscore on Monday morning before they unleash the Boy Scouts.

Thanks for your interest in Bonnaroo. The parking lot and campground will open at about 7:00 a.m. on Thursday and will close around 12:00 p.m. on Monday. You are allowed to enter after that point and leave whenever you need to. The concerts will begin around begin 5pm on Thursday, 11am/noon on Friday and will end around midnight on Sunday. You may not leave your car parked over night in day parking[/b]e].
I sent them an email asking if I could leave my car in day parking, and if not how I could get out. So any other ideas?

We had to leave Sunday mid morning the last time I went in '08. Our strategy was to just drive and get a spot right near a road by the ropes. We just explained the situation to one of the parking guys guiding people where to park and he pointed where to go and to go ahead and do that. Just be cool and explain your situation.
We had no problems leaving when we needed to on Sunday.

I would definitely plan in advance if you have to leave early by parking in day parking or at the end of a row. I left last year after Phish on Sunday and still had to have a neighbor move their car.

So are you allowed to leave your car in day parking all weekend or not? We are in an rv. we have a couple flying into nashville that have to fly out on sunday. we thought that they could either rent a car and park it in day parking or we could park our car in day parking and take them to the airport. they were also thinking of taking a cab from manchester to nashville if it's cheaper than renting a car that just sits for 4 days. any suggestions???
