General Info Members:Davey Latter, Jason Soda, Russell Pollard, Rob Douglas and Joel Graves Biography: Comprised of five singer/songwriters, the members of Los Angeles indie alt-country band Everest boast some impressive pedigrees, having played with Earlimart, Sebadoh, the Folk Implosion, Slydell, Mike Stinson, Great Northern, Alaska!, John Vanderslice, and the Watson Twins. Sharing a mutual admiration for each other's respective track records, the five were drawn together by a common desire to make classic-sounding pop songs in the style of earthy bands like Wilco and Calexico. Russell Pollard, Jason Soda, Joel Graves, Rob Douglas, and Derek Brown first assembled in 2007, and connected quickly. Graves was especially excited about the instant chemistry, remarking in interviews, "I'm getting to play with my favorite singer, my favorite bass player, my favorite guitar player, and my favorite drummer. It's the band I've always wanted to be in." In August 2007, they entered New Monkey studio with Foo Fighters producer Mike Terry to capture a light set of acoustic-based songs on vintage equipment. After only two weeks of recording, a week of mixing, and an afternoon of mastering, their debut album, Ghost Notes, was finished, and they started shopping it around. Neil Young's Vapor Records label, home of Tegan and Sara and Jonathan Richman, seemed a logical choice, and after signing there, the group made plans to tour in promotion of Ghost Notes, which was scheduled for release in May of 2008.(all music)
Los Angeles quintet Everest recently returned from an action-packed trip to SXSW with news: their bold sophomore LP On Approach will receive a new release date of May 11. Originally slated for release on Vapor Records, it will now arrive via Warner Brothers/Vapor Records. (jambase)

Physical Reaction/Live Show In the two times I've walked away from an Everest show, I couldn't stop singing praise. Everest isn't going to change your life. They arn't some life affirming band. Not like MMJ, or Phish, or Steve Earle. They wont set you off to track down everything they ever recorded. The won't make you stop what you're doing every time they come around. Your not ever gonna hear them on the radio, or your favorite TV show, or even a car commercial. So why care? They will change your night. If you ever find yourself with out care and no friends, you've come to the right place.
thanks for the write-up. the song "into your heart" by Everest always comes up on one of my slacker stations and it got me into their first album. glad to hear they're going to be back at the farm this year with new songs. should be a good time.
