If you're fair skinned (like me) or have a shaved head (like me) or just don't want to leave roo looking like a redneck (like me), you know that proper headgear is essential. I've tried wide-brimmed vineyard hats, mesh boonies, regular baseball caps, heat wicking baseball caps, and all of those have flaws like not stopping enough sun (mesh boonie), too hot after you've been sweating for a few hours (vineyard), not enough sun protection (ballcap), etc... until I found the perfect roo hat. A for really real pith helmet, not a plastic one that US Postal workers are issued, made out of pith which is very light, sturdy, and porous. Dunk em in cold water and it'll soak it up and cool your head for about the next 3 hours. If you're at one of the tents and don't want to listen to who is playing at Which stage, face the stage and tilt your head back, the brim acts like a sound funnel for whatever is in front of you. Your friend that just went to the beer tent and is trying to find you again will have an easier time. Mine was about 40 bucks including postage. A lil steep for a noggin cover, but totally worth it in the blazing heat. Here's where I got mine: www.villagehatshop.com/pith_helmet.html

...and it's completely ridiculous looking
I wore a $1 bandana to keep the sweat out of my eyes and a $15 wide brimmed hat that I got at a camping store. I'm red headed and fair skinned and I didn't burn at all.

Yeah, I just bought a wide brimmed hat for 20 in Nashville, IN. It's like a cowboy hat with a really floppy brim. That's a poor description but it will keep me from burning... along with sunscreen. I always wear a bandanna.
You wide brimmed bastards... remember to take your hats off when you are at a show towards the front. There was this dude that just did not take his hat off last year, and it blocked my view for most of the set until he left. I don't think he was aware that he had it on.

I'm startin to get old, so I rarely nudge to the front of a tent anymore. I'm happier with elbow room, but yes it is important to keep the people behind you in mind if you're wearing a big hat. And yeah, pith helmets look ridiculous. Ridiculously AWESOME! Just wait til I figure out how to attach some viking horns to it. (Yeah, I know, vikings didn't really wear horned helmets.)
Not exactly the most attractive thing you'll ever see but if it's hot like last year - a real lifesaver. They also make neck wraps. The neck wraps can feel a little slimy if you don't rinse them off each day but they really help me stay cool and enjoy.
