Amen. Our grill wasn't working last year and some of our food went bad so when we found the legendary $1 grilled cheese a wave of hope washed over everyone, and our hunger was satisfied. Although this would be a last ditch move for us, one person can always bring back grilled cheese for his camp and probably trade a couple on the way for other nice things even if you didn't fail with packing food.
If you like coffee bring those new starbucks via packets, I have used them camping and they work great. Just add em to a nalgene, shake and you got coffe. If you can spare some ice you got iced coffee.
Last Roo a couple dudes were selling iced coffee and it was unbelievable....

After watching this, I'll never buy bottled water again. Well, I'll try not to buy any more bottled water. I think I'll bring gallon jugs this year instead of cases of water. At least, it's a little less plastic.
Thank you for posting this video! Annie Leonard has some really good information and the videos are catchy and keep people engaged in the subject.
Kudos to all who try to buck this dirty habit of buying bottles of water. It takes a bit of dedication but it can be done. I started doing it when I realized the plastic taste wasn't just my imagination.

Hey KF-Kitty and anyone else legitimately interested in kicking the bottled water habit...I discovered these Bobble Water Bottles a couple weeks ago, and they are absolutely brilliant. I got my first two in the mail last week, and they work like a dream. They're not as big or as clunky as a say a Nalgene or even the official Roo bottles, and the filter really makes a difference. I'm bringing both of mine to Roo this year, and I dont expect to bring or buy a single other bottle.
You can check out the website here www.waterbobble.com/ and at $9.95 they're not prohibitive in terms of cost - esp. if you consider you pay a minimum of $.99 a bottle in the store.

Just thought I'd toot my own horn here: I work in this office building that goes through so... so many bottled waters every week. They were just throwing them away too until I said "HEY let's get a recycling bin or two and I'll haul it home with me to recycle." Anyway, I was feeling bad even with the recycling (which is somewhat suspect anyway) about how many bottles I was packing home with me every week, so I convinced the bosses to purchase a couple water filtration pitchers for the office refrigerator (well technically they aren't even pitchers, they've got spigots on the front of them). Anyway, they haven't arrived in the mail yet but I already feel better about the situation. Link to the 'pitchers' we ordered below, thinking about getting one for my home fridge. Also, ordered myself a couple of those filter bottles, looks perfect for festivals
The food I have been grateful are oranges, cheese sticks (like string cheese), drinks like Gatorade, and various other fruit. However in '07 I premade fruit salad and stored it in Ziploc gallon bags in the cooler and it turned into total grody slosh. But that same year I premade brownies and those were utterly fantastic!
PLEASE follow these instructions if you are planning on using a grill. You can use gas/propane fuel sources or charcoal, but scavenging for wood on site will NOT be permitted. The fire must be entirely contained and off the ground. Air quality is a concern. Please keep the fires as small as possible and extinguish them as soon as you are finished. When you are done cooking with charcoal, put it out with water before going into the show or going to sleep or leaving your camp, rather than letting it burn out over time. In any case, DO NOT DUMP COALS ON THE GROUND (ever) or in the trash until they are entirely cool. After the coals are COMPLETELY DEAD, dispose of them properly as garbage.

I'm bringing a small propane camping stove but the only thing I plan on using it for is coffee in the mornings. I've become a complete coffee addict over the past year and I'm nothing nice to be around in the mornings until I've had my fix! As far as food, I'll just be eating granola bars, peanut butter, and whatever I buy on Shakedown or in Centeroo.

The $3 breakfast burritos from the $1 grilled cheese stands would always hold me over for half of the day in '08. We ate pancakes at camp each morning last year, not sure if they were still doing the morning burritos?

Thanks for the link LawnGnome. I bring most of my food, but I'm gonna have to try to remember to find this guy and try the tacos. It sounds like the best deal at the fest, much better than $1 grilled cheese.

I've been debating on what to bring this year. My last time I brought a single burner and a pan. Mad breakfast with precut potatoes, onions, and ham. then some eggs on top. It was a bit of a pain to cook and clean up but it held me over until late afternoon with a snack.
Trying to keep some costs down, but really don't want to go though the trouble. Most cold options don't do it for me.
Last scouting trip I was one with the kids a dad had vacuumed packed pre cooked bacon, sausage and biscuits and boiled the bags. But I am not too interested in boiling water when it's 90 degrees. lol
For those bringing hummus, how well does it hold up? I was thinking of making up a batch, putting it into small containers and freezing it. Ideally I would pull a container out of the cooler, bring it with some pita and carrots with me into Centeroo and have a grand ole time.
Also canned dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) are going to be a key ingredient to my diet. taste great and soaked in olive oil.

dude. that sounds like the food my mom'd make, lol. yum!
We brought storebought hummus in the tub, it did great in the cooler. So nice with pita, with chips, or with celery and carrot slices. Reminds me... put carrots on the grocery list...
We make up a bunch of taco meat and freeze it in meal size baggies. Throw it in the pan on the coleman, warm it up w/cheese, heat up a tortilla and quick and easy! Much too busy for anything more complicated.
we usually bring a couple of single burner coleman camp stoves that run on camp fuel. i have been hitting up the breakfast burritos (split between 2-3 people, its a lot!) and coffee in the mornings and we make things like grilled cheeses or hotdogs on the stove for lunch. we had some onions and peppers pre-cut-up in some tupperware and made quesadillas and it worked out great. we bring lots of snacks- string cheese, fruit (ORANGES!), granola bars, dried fruit (Craisins are awesome). we always freeze a flat of water a week before and stick the frozen bottles in the coolers- provides coldness for the first day or so and as they melt you can drink them. keeps us from having to buy ice fro at least the first day and a half.

I'm planning on bringing hot pockets for my breakfast & lunch for at least 1 of the days I eat at Roo... I'm planning on bringing my microwave with me. I might even bring some Homestyle Bakes to make in the microwave as well.

Anybody ever buy the exotic jerky they have in the Brooers Tent?
We made that our Thursday dinner/Friday lunch. We had ostrich and a few other types that were amazingly good. Anyone know if that will be part of Brooers Village again?

My girlfriend is addicted to the cheese fries and corndogs in centeroo. So with her having the $ and me being a student and perma-broke, my menu is fairly planned for me (except for a few slices of spicey pie). Will definitely bring some pop-tarts, snack foods, and canned foods for the campsite though. However, those fish tacos do sound glorious.

i will have to find these dudes......Do they have ice coffe @ center roo??
Michael, the best coffee in Centeroo is @ the little cafe beside Sonic Village. They always have plenty of creamer/half 'n half, plus various sweeteners (sugar, honey, artificial pink stuff, etc.) They'll make it hot or iced...not sure the price, but if you're a junkie like me, any price is worth it.
