I'm complete checked out of this day of work. I have no idea how I'm going to make it. I already snapped on the director for telling me to be prepared in 7 minutes
I had a nervous breakdown at work because the director's style of running the show like it's a one person docu-series instead of a crew built production, made me hit a wall. I was released early because we also weren't going to have craft services of ANY type and as a pescetarian/vegan (with indigestion this week to the point of seeing a doctor) there was NO lunch for me. Don't know if I will get my full pay or not, or if there will be repercussions... but I recorded over 5 gigs today somehow still.
Aren't you in the union? Don't they have to guarantee you 8 hrs/day?

I'm not in the union, I can't get anyone to let me in the door to even boom op and get union hours. Maybe at the end of this year I'll collect enough hours to petition to be considered to be on a list to be called up - but NYC and LA are filled with non-union workers like me who are forced to suck this shit up. We are literally the mold of how to create an entire freelance system in these areas unless you are on a broadcast production.
edit: And I've been told that systemic racism isn't real by union people. And told by an ex-union member that it's a racist and sexist ass choosing process. If no one will hire me to boom for them, or sound utility for them - I'll never survive. If you've been wondering why I'm getting more and more anxious over the last few months. I'm 36. If I don't get into the union soon, I'm just fucked.

updated above post too but the real issue is that while I was given permission to leave. The producers are in fucking London. So if they decide I didn't abide by the contract, they could cut my hours in half. They have to pay me for 10-2pm. But now they may not have to pay me for the full day.

it's a Roland DJ-707. I usually use the DJ-808 so I know how it works, but the buttons are in a different place and the biggest thing I'm worried about is muscle memory kicking in at the worst possible moment.

My advice is to not over think it, but go ape on testing yourself on the rehearsal - test run of the show. Your mind will click in to it being a new machine pretty easily but it does help to make a mistake first if you understand me

B2 Fighting Series 133! There's 9 amateur and 5 pro bouts, main event is the first women's MMA title fight in Alabama history. If it goes well they'll put me on the travel crew so it's a really exciting opportunity for me professionally. Sound check/rehearsal went well and I've tagged everything as thoroughly as possible to minimize the chances of any fuckups. I'm still kinda nervous, but freaking out less now.
Made it into Chicago. Solo driving from the Twin Cities to Bonnaroo is not fun so it’s nice getting half the trip over. Sitting in Millennium Park and Sleater-Kinney just started. First live music since seeing Bon Iver in the fall of 2019.
