i have an extra motorcycle battery laying arround, and wanted to bring it and use a ac/dc converter with it so that i can charge things like my phone/camera. its just a small 5"x4"x6" battery that weighs about 8 lbs. I figured it be an easy and good idea, but im wondering if there is a "no car battery" rule or something.
Last year I used a similar setup, but with a boat battery. My truck has two trays for batteries under the hood, so I just put it in there and kept the power inverter under there too. Worked fine, but really didn't use it as much as I thought I would. Just for the phones on 2 nights and a fan for a little while. I had the battery in the bed of my truck driving through the tollbooths and the security people saw it and never said anything. You should be good.

since i posted this, ive seen other people say that they have used boat batteries too. i think ill be in camping only, so i wanted to have some form of power at my camp so that i dont have to walk the whole way back to my car. hopefully the battery will have enough charge to power a fan and charge stuff for the weekend

Im not sure how long a motorcycle battery will last. But you should have no problem getting it into the grounds. I don't believe there are any rules against them.

Does the battery have amp hours rating? I could do a calculation for you. Not to disappoint you but it probably will not last long, motorcycles do not have much reserve. If all you need is to charge your phone get a charger that plugs into your cigarette lighter, thy draw less then on amp. For your camera battery you could use your inverter, just connect it directly to your cars battery or cigarette lighter, again they also do not draw that much, the electronics in the inverter will draw more. If you are nervous about draining your car battery, start the car up for the first five minutes while charging. It will be fine.

idk the amp rating. i know its not going to last long, but i dont plan on having an inverter hooked up to it for long. i just wanted to make sure i could bring it to camping-only to use as a form of back-up for charging stuff so that i dont have to walk the whole way to my car (ill be in camping-only)
