Hey! I was wondering if anyone could settle this debate for me. I wanted to know if VIP is that much better than GA. I mean if you take out the money factor. Or does VIP just give a completely different experience? I went to '05 and had a blast in GA. Can't wait to do it again and would like to "treat" myself and my girlfriend, but I don't want it to be a completely watered down Bonnaroo.
I don't think it's a watered down version. It seems like there are some perks like knowing you won't have to hike for 30 minutes to your tent or being able to sit down if you want to. You're still camping, etc.
Now if you go with one of the tour bus rental deals, THAT would be different, and of course we'd all want to be your best friend
1) proximity 2) real bathrooms (er, well, a damn sight better than a porto) 3) unlimted, 24/4 showers. hell, you can usually shower on monday morning too, so 24/5 4) better security lines 5) less sketch 6) open bar on thusday night! 7) what and which stage viewing - not the closest, but nice to have a place to get away 8) the AC lounges in both the VIP area and behind the which stage bleachers 9) t shirt and poster! (okay, im stretching it a bit...) 10) VIP only shows - technically, ive only been to i think 2 of them... last year people were all about the VIP show with Hockey but I stayed out of the rain
Cons
1) its really pricey! 2) did I mention the price? 3) no more free food, although i didnt miss it - there is free food thurs night 4) people's misconceptions that you're a snob because you're in VIP 5) do you miss the "real" bonnaroo? ive been both ways and would say no. at the end of 06 when i flew down and did tent-only, i felt like i survived. all the other years i went VIP and at the end, i felt like i had a good time. ask yourself - is this a vacation or an endurance test?
I've only done VIP and I can't imagine doing GA. I'm 28 years old and I've done the single-day festivals a bunch of times when I was younger. Doing it in Bonnaroo form -- while tempting -- isn't what I need.
You are essentially paying for three things: 1) Far more lax security going into Centeroo. 2) A 5 minute walk to Centeroo. 3) Pooping in a clean air conditioned bathroom.
Now, considering how much stuff I like to take in, how little I enjoy long walks and missing music and how much I enjoy pooping in cool quiet places, it's worth EVERY penny for me.
1. Viewing and hearing the What stage from you camp site. 2. Shower (hot or cold, sometimes even at YOUR preference) 3. Having the ability to take in a nuclear bomb (if you wanted ) 4. VIP party. Missed it every year but went last year. A blast. And you can chat up the artists at the end. 5. Food at VIP party. If you do it right, you can stock up on cookies for the week ;D
Cons
1. idio eats your egg beaters. ;D 2. When Kanye starts singing at 4 fcking AM. 3. Bleachers at Which stage. Hot, hard, and hurt my ass. 4. Pricey

We did the first 4 years GA - were in BFE 3 of those years. After the last time we figured we'd try VIP once ... haven't gone back to GA.
To me the biggest differences are the proximity & ease of getting in. I love hearing the headliner start playing while I'm in my tent, and I can't remember how many times I patted myself on the back last year when we strolled right in past the huge throng of folks entering under the arch.

We have done GA twice & VIP once, we are going VIP this year. We tend to see more acts when we go VIP.That is our reason for paying the extra for VIP. I will say I have liked our neighbors better when we were in GA. Maybe we were just beside some DB's whe we were in VIP.....or maybe there are more DB's in VIP.

For me it's a combination of things when added up make it 100% worth the extra money.
Locaton, location, location. I've camped if BFE. It sucks. You can run back to camp anytime to drop off or pick up stuff and grab a cold beer.
No waiting for hours on the road. Just long enough to get excited to get in.
Ease of entrance to Centeroo. No long ass lines of people in front of you getting searched to death. You do get seached, but I've never really waited in line.
The bathrooms. They have air-conditioning. And sinks. And flushing toilets. Pure heaven.
All the other stuff. Bleachers/mound, hospitality tents, showers, no wooks, VIP party, etc.
Best of all, Camp Inforoo VIP. More fun than I ever had in GA. ;D
The clearly delineated much larger campsites are wonderful. You are pretty much guaranteed enough space for your sleeping and shade tents without having to worry about the land grab which happens once you arrive in GA.
