As of right now, I've got 4 people planning sqeezing into a honda accord with all of our stuff. I'm pretty sure that its going to be extremely difficult for us to fit all of our crap into the car.
None of us have enough money for a luggage rack or anything like that, so does anyone know if its legal/illegal to just strap a bunch of stuff to the roof of a car? (obviously we would make sure its secure first)

i hear you! have you tried to post on a local board or meetup to see if there are any campers who would let you use their rooftop carrier? my guess is that someone might let you borrow one.

Thanks! I checked the Uhaul site, and it seems that they sell them but do not rent them. they rent trailers, but my friends accord isnt exactly trailer-ready.
As far as asking others to carry our stuff goes, I'd rather just cram it all in and deal with it then go through all the trouble of meeting up and finding people to help us out. good idea if i knew anybody else that was going from around here though.
this and a few other articles makes me believe that it should be legal to tie our luggage down on the roof, and we dont even need a rack. if anyone finds this to be incorrect, please let me know!

I'm sure that you can tie all of yuor crap to your roof, but I'd be interested in seeing how you do that with 4 people in the car without tying the doors shut. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Good luck and I hope you don't lose anything on the way down.

Trailers of any kind are not allowed at Bonnaroo.
With that said, I am under the impression you can strap whatever you need to the top as long as it's not obstructing your vision or not sticking out the sides and front and back.
Since my truck quit working this week, I now have to strap a 8ft EZ-up to the top of a Scion xA, so I'm right there with you.
I have rented a car-top carrier from u-haul before... I couldn't do it through the website and I couldn't reserve it, I'd suggest calling and asking a real person at the rental place in your area.
