In 2008 I arrived at Bonnaroo at about 9am and waited in over 6 hours of traffic. I am planning on leaving FL a bit earlier this time but I have heard that they turn people away if you are too early. Did anyone get turned away or sent to the back of the line? What time? If anyone has any other advice on avoiding some traffic I would really appreciate it!

They start letting people in on Wed. night. and from what I've heard continue through the entire night. You do from what I understand end up in BFE camping. There are quite a few threads on this topic.
I have read on the boards before that they will start letting people in on Wednesday night once Walmart and Manchester start getting a little crowded.
Second, think logically about that statement. If everyone who shows up early gets sent to the back of the line, said line would be a revolving loop of cars. Doesn't make much sense, worst that would happen is you would be turned away to do another loop of the highway and come back around again, at which time you would have as much chance of being at the front of the line as at the back when they open the gates.
Seems like most people will hit the walmart lot and wait for the word from the local police that the lots are open, or I think there is a group around here somewhere that is hitting the Nashville bar scene until early morning.

In 08 we got there at dawn and just got in line, we were in and setting up the tent 10-11am. Just got lucky.
This year will be rough for me, having to drive alone from central OH, debating on trying the all nighter or just suck up the wait time getting there later.

Coming from Springfield here! This will be the third for us. All nighter for sure. I am just trying to decide what route to take. I-75 to 24 like the site says (and we have done already) or I-65 to Nashville and then to Manchester as Google says this will shave and hour or 2 off the drive. What route do you take?

Take 65 through Nashville on towards Manchester. Its no more than 3 hours from Louisville taking that route. Watch for the stateys on the KY/TN border on 65... its like a gauntlet out there.
We usually leave Kenmore(buffalo) at around 8-9. We always say we are leaving at 5pm But it never happens that way. We drive all night and get to manchester around 9am. Then we wait...and wait.....and wait. And it's hot. And it sucks.
This year however we are leaving Wednesday morning. Like around 4am. We have friends that just moved to a town near manchester. So we are hoping to get there around dinner time. Have a nice meal and hang out for a while. Then head over to the site then.
unfortunately the plans are now a little messed up due to the fact that me and my husband won VIP tickets and my sister and her friend are still going GA. So now what will probably happen is we will stay with our southern friend until about 5am Thursday. Then we will drive to the site and part ways.
After we get set up in VIP we will walk to the toll booths and meet my sister and hang out for a bit.
The first yr we left at like 4am from BHAM, AL area and ended up in line at like 7am ish and was setting up by like 11am. Last yr we left at midnight and got to the Walmart at like 3am and stayed there till we heard they were opening the gates at 6am. Well we headed from Walmart to the gates and was in line for like a lil over an hr. So this year were gonna do the same and get to walmart and chill there. So as everyone says, its a crapshoot.
Honestly leave early and chill at walmart. Easiest way!!

Seeing as the ticket states do not arrive early i am a bit confused.
I would love to get an extra night of camping in to relax before the 'roo excitement ramps up full force. Do you think there is any chance i would get turned away arriving 7-8pm Wednesday night?

I've heard in the past (though not seen or happened to me so take with a grain of salt) that the earlier you arrive, the higher chance of having a search of your vehicle.
The other thought is that arriving earlier puts you camping further from centeroo. If that's ok with you, go for it. Some people like it.

Hmm.. I drove in twice last year because of school. Thursday afternoon I was asked if I had any glass. I handed them a spare headlight, and was told I could keep it. Friday I don't even remember stopping.
The smartest business is to strongly discourage early arrival then punish early arrivals with a long long long walk to the venue. That's exactly what they do. They certainly can't turn people away and have them clogging up traffic and irritating the locals in the host city. That would be asking for Manchester to boot roo out of there, or charge a wildly high tax to Coffee County on each tik. The roo folks have done this a while. They know what they're doing. I don't think your corn is safer showing up late rather than early. It isn't like they can search 30,000 vehicles with a fine tooth comb in a matter of 15 hours anyway.

LOL The walk is so punishing. I feel like I have been so bad when I am walking right into What stage. I feel like I am doing it wrong and Bonnaroo hates me. LOL
It is a nice walk and I quite enjoy it. Perfect for pre-game beers if you get my drift.
