I got wasted at a buddy's house before the school sponsored "pre-senior prom party," a couple nights before the big event. We were pinched en masse and I wasn't allowed past the entrance of actual prom itself. Maybe that's my problem with this album...
Golf ball or bigger. It wasn't the size as much as the abundance. The car still runs, but there was so much damage done that it's just cheaper for the insurance company to write me a check for the value of my car than it is for them to fix it.

So, after spending all day with it yesterday, it's in the 'good, not great' category for me. It isn't anywhere close to bad, but as previously said, it doesn't really strike me like the rest of their discography. Definitely a grower. If Jacket were the Decemberists, their entire discography would be Hazards of Love and Circuital would be The King is Dead.
I don't remember much of my prom. I won a car at my prom. That's it.
The hell? What high school has enough money to give away a car.
It was kind of donated by a local dealership. They usually would do it each year. It was at the school's "Post-Prom" even that they wanted kids to go to instead of out partying and drinking. We got drunk and went to that anyway. Lots of little prizes given out, like a laptop and a small television (like 14" or some shit). Mostly gift certificates to local businesses and some other small prizes. The car was the grand prize and I was lucky enough to win it.

I'm definitely agreeing with the good, not great, reviews of the new album....although I really wanna hear the rest of you wanna freak out, that song has great potential beyond 1:40.
Anytime I've heard a MMJ song live though it's made me listen to the album version of it completely differently... I expect that to be the case with these songs, too.

Ha, so you got to drive the car home drunk after you won it?

When they called my name and my principal gave me the key I started getting nervous....like "Oh shit....i'm going to get caught drinking cuz I can't drive this home" since it was kind of against the rules to drink and go to the school event.
Luckily they told me I just had to go pick the car up at the dealership the next day and sign some paperwork. Did not have to drive it home that night.
I have XM and even so, I'm lucky to hear one MMJ song a week. Yesterday, I heard three different songs within 1/2 an hour on various channels. It was a good drive home
You guys should check out Tucson's community station. I probably only listen about 5 hours a week and always hear at least a few songs by MMJ along with all kinds of other great stuff. www.kxci.com/
I just heard Holding on to Black Metal on 99.9 the Buzz (out of Burlington, VT) on the way home from work. I was pretty surprised considering they usually just crap like Seether.

That's the one song on the album I couldn't finish. The kids choir or whatever that was was just annoying. The first 3 and last 3 tracks are great though! and wonderful, and outta my system are pretty good.
I get what people are talking about with the "good, not great," comments, and I think that comes mostly from the lack of EXPLOSION (outside of Circuital) that we've come to expect with tracks like OBH and Lay Low and Touch Me Pt 2. I think that will change once the boys start playing it live, though. I see major potential for jamming out on most of these tunes.
That said, I'm really loving these tracks. I love how the melodic backing vocals are kind of the thread that ties the whole album together. I think this is going to be a major grower, and I'm already loving it.
