How important are they? I've read a lot of people say it gets cold at night
I think that are crap, dont really do anything...be better off get a small battery powered fan to set on the floor of the tent and blow directly on you.

Most "tent" fans are really supposed to vent the moisture out of the tent so the inside walls are covered in condensation at night, . I'll have both going for sure.
Any air flow you can get is better then none. Ideally early mornings will be breezy and overcast.
I've never been cold and swear by my fan both for air flow and to cut some noise. Target, etc all sell a small box style and coleman makes one that is magnetic (to itself) that you can hang wherever you need it.

Brought one my first year...never brought one again. I didn't find it to be helpful at all.
HOWEVER, I do very highly recommend the spray bottle fans for when you are outside of your tent. I also recommend spraying people near you if they look like they are wilting in the heat, just watch the face/electronics
I'm sure its cold at night but I don't plan on sleeping til 6am for the first 3 night so when I get back to the tent ill turn it on and hopefully get 3-4 hours in

I totally agree with this. They are a life saver in a crowded tent show. I found mine at CVS for $10. People really appreciate them. It's amazing how good a little spritz of water and air feels.
