Hey y'all.
Viva and friends are creating a 200 foot long mural about the planet and sustainability as part of Planet Roo (which is part of Centeroo). Please come be one of those friends.
We invite everyone -- painters, graffiti artists, supervised kids, anyone who wants to express in writing or art how they feel about the planet and sustainability, or to help hang the mural. We hope there'll be a mix of attention spans. If you just want to write something simple in five minutes, that's fine. If you want to collaborate for hours each day, we love you already.
We've got the material aspects organized: panels to paint on, a place to paint them, a place to hang them, paint and pens to cover them, etc. But bring your own paints/brushes/chalk/fabric/tools/whatever if you want!
To contribute, turn up at the right place and time (see below). Or call 615 995 6334 (Viva). Or visit the Academy Tent at Planet Roo and ask about "the mural". (The Academy Tent is the center of operations for a bunch of activities that are about "creating a meaningful, interactive experience where attendees will learn about life and themselves in the process of becoming part of the festival".)
The primary planned opportunity to contribute to the mural is during one session per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, each lasting two hours, each starting at 10.30am., at the Academy Tent at Planet Roo.
During each session we'll be painting and writing on a bunch of 6 foot high panels. Some time in the afternoon after each session we'll be hanging finished panels on a fence that runs along one side of Planet Roo.
The fence, and hence the mural, is Z shaped, so has three sections. We've assigned themes to the sections based on primary elements/colors/moods: fire/red/mad (mad does double duty -- things that are clearly insane OR that you feel angry about); water/blue/sad (we'll try to put stuff that is both mad and sad near the join between the mad and sad sections); and earth/green/glad. (Air appears at the end.)
So, for example, when Viva thinks about beached dolphins or dying coral reefs she feels sad, so she might express that feeling as a panel (or part of one) that's hung in the water/blue/sad section.
At the end of Friday we expect to have hung at least a six foot high version of the word MAD and a few other fire/red/mad panels, the word SAD and a few other water/blue/sad panels, and GLAD and a few other earth/green/glad panels.
We've developed a bit more structure to it than that, but I don't think it will be helpful to get into those details here.
As your attorney I advise you to drive at top speed and it'll be a Goddamn miracle if we get there before you turn into some kind of wild animal. Are you ready for that? Checking into a Las Vegas hotel under a phony name with the intent to commit capital fraud with a head full of acid? I certainly hope so...
