Ok, so I'm going to Bonnaroo for the first time and alone at that. I'm flying to Nashville from SC tomorrow and taking the Greyhound from Nashville to Manchester. Can anyone tell me what entrance I should walk to from the Greyhound station? And if they start admitting people on Wednesday night, should I go in if I'm going to be in BFE and take the chance that I can wake up in the morning to walk to Tent-Only? I know that all sounds complicated, but any help is appreciated! ???
OK. Gotta help my SC sister out. (My son is about your age; he's riding out with me tomorrow.)
First, walking from Greyhound to Bonnaroo is a trek. Other posts on this board put it at about five miles. It's actually about 2.6 from the Greyhound to the interesection of Powers and Bushy Branch. Google gives these walking directions:
617 Woodbury Hwy Manchester, TN 37355 1. Head north on TN-53 N toward Frontage Rd 0.3 mi 2. Turn right at Interstate Dr 1.0 mi 3. Turn right at TN-55 W 0.2 mi 4. Turn left at Ragsdale Rd 0.4 mi 5. Turn right at New Bushy Branch Rd 0.7 mi 2.6 mi – about 13 mins
New Bushy Branch Rd & Powers Rd Manchester, TN 37355
That, unfortunately, is the easy part. From there, you have to walk to the tollbooths--prolly another mile--and then once in, get down to BFE. You almost surely can jump on the back of somebody's truck for that, and that's good--because it's about 2.5 miles down to BFE from the tollbooths.
Taking a cab from the Greyhound should be pretty cheap, and I'd recommend it. However, no telling how close you will get. Another option would be to take a cab to the Walmart and bum a ride. (I know your Mom would kill me for saying this, but I'd be OK with my daughters [one of whom IS your age; the other, 19]) bumming a ride from Walmart to 'roo.
As for tent camping, absolutely, you can do that. Understand, however, that tent only is smaller this year, and you'll have to haul gear BACK up the hill (and there will be NO vehicles, only some smart folks with wagons and such) about 1.5 miles to the tent-only area. I think they drop the gate to "up the hill" about 8:00, and it will be a small stampede. Be part of that bull run and get a prime spot in tent camping. Aim for the middle of the tent zone, not the edges. It will be more crowded, but you'll have fewer people stumbling through camp in the middle of the night.
Get to Walmart, meet some nice people, talk to EVERYONE, make some girlfriends, avoid skanky old men like me and even nice young fellers like my son, and you'll be fine. Take care of yourself, PACE yourself, drink plenty of water, and take advantage of being there early. Get into Centeroo as soon as it opens on Thursday and do all the little tenty things--Wheat Thins, DJ booths, other interactives--before they get crowded. And if you happen to come by the Troo Lounge at 1:00 on Thursday for the first act--Joe Robinson blazing on his guitar--look near the soundboard for the fat guy with the short hair and glasses in a KDTU/NBA ringer t-shirt. I'd be honored to buy you your refreshment of choice. After all, we Cackalackians must hang together.

I don't know if they'll let you camp in BFE without a car...tent only opens around 8am on Thursday morning. I'm taking the Greyhound too so that's where I'll be!
Thanks for all the info! And thanks especially for the Pink Floyd "Vera" reference! I grew up with my mom listening to that song and was just listening to it earlier today at work. And I will most definitely take you up on that refreshment offer if I remember. lol.
There's also a shuttle from the Nashville Airport to Roo for $25 each way if you haven't already financially locked yourself into anything. They drop you off right on the grounds.
Edit: It looks like the $25 shuttle might just be a random guy. There is a shuttle that'll take you right onto the grounds from the Airport and the info is on the main Roo site.
