yea i can list many reasons why we're not going back. but the clincher for us leaving was the bag being stolen. my wife cried because of the memories that were held in that camera. but i just read something that makes me realize what we lost is very small. a guy died. as great as bonnaroo is, it's also a very rough place, with the heat, the living conditions and all of the out of control drug use. people really need to slow down and just enjoy the music. the music is what kept me coming back, but i just can't do it anymore. p.s. if the bastard that stole our stuff is reading this, you know if you really needed a camelback or just needed water, you could have just asked for it. i would gladly share with you. stealing like that is just uncalled for.
F*ck Sang. No wonder you didn't call me back this morning.
Sorry someone stole the camelback.
My return is always questionable on the line up. But next year its going to be a harder sell. No American Spirits, taking stuff and then reselling it, not selling water anywhere but the "bars", and charging me $5 for a cup of coffee is just f*ckin insane.

sorry to hear about your stuff being stolen. i saw a lot of kindsness and love going on but moreover i saw a lot of corporate whorefesting and frat kids just slumming up the place. i felt really connected to what seems to have been the initial spirit of bonnaroo even though this was just my first time but i hated being there. i'd much rather see the bands independently throughout the year. i got into the guest area and all i heard nonstop was idiot chatter from gross, judgemental, shallow executives and peons talking about the smelly hippies and how bothered they were that people had to walk in the mud and how atrocious it was that people laid down in the dirt at random and one group of promoters or pr people or somesuch was jabbering on about some overweight elementary school girl and they all laughed about the kid being overweight. it was really ugly back there behind the which stage. there were a few smileys about but mostly it was just a bunch of overpaid jerks from what i was exposed to. anytime you get a bunch of arrogant professionals out of touch with reality and the common person together to make something beautiful it usually ends up ugly with someone making advertising dollars off of it somewhere down the line or another. hope someone makes another bonnaroo somewhere sans all the media influence and sponsors.

That sucks your stuff was stolen, I didn't want to take any chances and made sure I locked everything in my car before I left. I had a guy tell me his bag was stolen that had his wallet and keys in it.
belltwala1 I totally agree with you....if you need something just ask and more than likely you will get it. I had plenty of people pass by my campsite and ask if they could buy a beer or two and I just gave them some for free. Ask and ye shall receive. Karma will come back to bite those bastards that stole.
My camera was taken too, I totally understand. I was so upset about losing JUST the memory card. I would have been on cloud nine if someone just took the camera and turned in the case and memory card in there. Just so sad. We also left Sunday morning. Spirit was broken a little and the heat was just too muc. Be happy you came back in good health.

Ugh sang that really sucks. I had my purse stolen at Ultra - my phone, camera (thank GOD we had literally just changed the memory card on it and the new one we put in was blank), $70 in cash and worst of all - my ID. I had tickets to an after-party downtown to see Kaskade (my favorite DJ) and I couldn't get in because of my lack of ID. I had to sell my ticket. I cried my eyes out, it very nearly ruined my whole trip. I was lucky because I almost took my debit card with me too but decided against it at the last minute.
The only thing that cheered me up (and this is bad I know) was imagining all the horrible bad-karma things that happened to the fucker who stole my purse. So - dude who stole your camelbak is probably in the same bad-karma situation

That sucks sang. We left stuff out at camp and nothing was touched. But we had a big group and at most times, someone was there. I take anything valueable with me at all times or else it went back in the car.

I left the shirt i wore to GWAR sitting outside and it got nabbed I just can't understand why they would steal that and not all the valuable crap that was sitting in my truck that it was sitting on.

That sucks. Unfortunately we learned the tough lesson I think three years ago? Maybe four? They got a backpack with about $300 cash, camera, wallet, keys to the truck that brought all our gear...whole nine. It was our 'Roo backpack', all sorts of essentials in there, stolen right out of the middle of camp as we slept on a friday night. Supposedly out of a tent someone was sleeping in, but i actually think it got left out. Nonetheless....stolen from right in the middle of three tents as we slept. Now nothing more valuable than coolers, food, beer, etc gets left out of a locked car when we leave camp. Two years ago I awoke to some fucked up person rummaging in our camp...and popped out of my tent very loudly. Didnt catch em....think they only got away with some beer and definately a can of pringles.
Last year my little sis got a backback taken after setting it down for just a second at Girl Talk. Phone, money, keys, ipod etc all in it. But by sunday some blessed soul had found the backpack and turned it in.....sans the valuble things of course...but she did get her keys back to the car at least. Oddly enough shortly after Roo she got a call on her phone from a parent that claimed to have found her phone, ipod etc in their kids stuff after they got home, grilled them, and then called numbers on the phone. She ended up getting everything back but the cash in the end. They mailed it to her.
The thing is....you get 70000-80000+ in a field for 3-4 days and there WILL be some shady fuckers in the mix. It sucks....but its a fact of life. And sometimes you see good after the bad. Before my sister found me the next morning and got cash etc, her friendly neighbors bought her breakfast....gave her water. When we had to break into her car? Somebody went searching high and low and found a friggin coathanger for us somewhere(who brings a wire coathanger camping? what are the odds?) Somebody found an empty backpack and turned it in rather than walking past it.
I dunno....I just hate to think you wouldnt go back to the parts of Bonnaroo that we love...because of some shady fuck. When our shit got stolen it ruined our mood for a few hours....but it was a saturday morning in manchester in june....and after a bit we decided we wouldn't let that ruin our weekend. And I'm SOOOOO glad it didn't.....because saturday night/sunday morning I saw an absolutely epic sunrise set with Sasha and Digweed that I cherish to this day. Possibly my favorite Bonnaroo moment/set in five years.
But yes theft was on the rise this year....be smart ...lock away valuables. And check back with lost and found often if you do get ripped....some stuff DOES get turned in....and I've seen tons of it unclaimed.

Same thing happened to me my first year, my backpack got nabbed while I was asleep in tent only, now I lock everything in my car.
yea we dropped it right outside the tent the same way we did every night. they didn't touch my bag, but got hers.
Yea no way would I trust leaving my stuff outside my tent, but I learned the hard way I guess.
the main reason we did that was because of how dirty the bags were. but yea i guess we should have had them in the tent anyway. still no excuse for thieving bastards.

Sorry for your loss, but I would like to say that this is 2010 not 1910...You can't leave valuables just laying around and expect the best. I'd say about 98% of festival goers are helpful, honest people (I met a lot of you!) but the reality of the times is that there are wooks everywhere (not just Roo) that are not. This was my third Roo and I've not had a problem with theft, but then again anytime I bring something valuable I always keep it on me, in my visual site, or locked the trunk of my vehicle. Don't let this incident keep you from attending Bonnaroo in the future. Just make sure to either lock up your valuables when your sleeping/away from camp or keep an eye on your stuff.
While packing up after DMB we found a Camelback with a phone, keys, and I think a Camera in it abandoned by our campsite. Looked like it had been rifled through. Checked the phone (Pink Blackberry Pearl) and it had no phone numbers or recent calls (SIM card taken out?). One of our campmates dropped it off at lost and found before leaving. He coincidentally also had his stolen while at one of the shows...(he did leave it unattended at Centeroo which is obviously not a good idea) so you may want to check with lost and found.

I hate it for you too. My girlfriends bag got stolen while we were in the tent changing. He/She must of just grabbed it in one quick swoop without even stopping to look. My god, I was five feet from it. It makes me sick! I hope these thieves get raped in prison.
I really didn't think this happened all that much, til it happened to me also. My bad was stolen in a 20 minute or so time span when no one was at our site. It had my camera, mp3 player, phone charger, previous roo's books, my glass, and some other stuff purchased at roo (some of which was purchased an hr before that and I never got to try). So yeah, I feel for all of you that got stuff stolen from them. Guess we live and learn...
Sunday night after during DMB i went back to my rv in Mr Miagi to sit on top of the rv and watch. Within 15 minutes i watched 3 groups of people walking through campgrounds stealing stuff. four of the guys went through my site and didnt see me sitting there. when one reached for a towel on a cooler i said dont even think about it and it scared the leno out of them and they ran off. smurfin losers.
This was my 5th roo in a row. I dont care what you say. Roo is no longer the awesome gathering of great people for a weekend of great music and fun. Its just not.
oh yea did anyone else see the securlty guard belly to back suplex the kid under the arch during stevie wonder. rediculous
Damn Sang... that sucks. There was organized theft this year, of that I am certain.
I was camped at Marty Mcfly, a few rows from Shakedown, and Saturday night after Jay Z, I was bassically forced to stay at camp and keep out watch. It was stupid.

I recently met a guy who's little sister and a group of her girlfriends apparently go to Bonnaroo and All Good every year, see absolutely zero shows and come back with carloads of stolen stuff. Not just blankets or shirts or anything small but backpacks, laptops, cameras, even official merch. He even showed me pictures on his cell phone of a living room completely covered in stolen goods. He wasn't aware of the type of person I am but if I could have gotten her name and address out of him I would have went straight to the police. Apparently no one expects a group of sorority-type chicks to be big-time thieves. Occasionally I wish bad things upon certain people Sorry to anyone who's Leno got jacked, especially you, Sang (there was a red camelback that we found while packing up that had been dropped at our camp that was completely empty aside from a damaged booklet and empty pill bottle?). It happens to the best of us. Nothing big was taken from our camp, just a tapestry, a glass piece, and some beer.
thanks guys. the ones you found were not ours. i was looking for lost and found info but i couldn't find it. also, the theft is not the only reason we are not going back. it's one of many reasons.
Sorry Sang.... those assholes are still eating all of our food as well. They left the beer cooler but tok the entire cooler with ALL OUR FOOD Saturday. I feel for you though, I can buy more food but the phone and camera would have ruined me too...
