i never saw cops making busts at the camp sites but if i did i would never go back. was this really happening? un-quacking-acceptable. all i saw were some mounties hassling some dudes with ~50 balloons and even then they just made them pop them. i actually thought security was a lot more lax this year. my buddy's car even got the DTF search and they didn't find any of his corn. one cop picked up a used apple with 3 holes in it and didn't realize what it was. just lucky i guess.
during the hottest parts of the day the lines for water were long, but at least it wasn't pure sulfur juice like last year.
the lunar stage made molly a popular girl this year and kept me awake all night while bleeding into all the surrounding acts, but it was cool that there was always a dance party going on at night if you were up for it. i'd like to see the lunar stage back next year, but with some obvious improvements.
greek life: no one hates it more than i do. however, even i can get along with ~90% of the most douchey frat guys for four days at bonnaroo. then again, my music taste doesn't really overlap at all with theirs so maybe i just didn't have as many run ins with them.
They were making busts in camps. And it wasn't only people being stupid who were being busted. As i said earlier, a girl next to our camp got busted and she was sitting quietly minding her own business.
It just seems odd to me that suddenly Bonnaroo is allowing armed police into the campgrounds, and is allowing them to just walk around and bother people without any probable cause. I know we most likely agreed to this by entering, but it's still unsettling.
Having said all of that, i'll be back next year. I had too great of a time to be deterred by a few cops. I suppose i'll just smoke in Centeroo only, since that seems to now be the safest place to indulge. ;D
They need to do away witht he filtered water stations. they run too slow and cause huge lines.. After the first 30 min wait I walked to the unfiltered stations by the which stage and never had to wait more than 5 mins

this board will ruin the vibes talk about negativity. i had a blast i did not judge anybody by what they wear. the water stations were crazy but the sinks were great no line no weird taste. i met great caring people, never had anything stolen never got searched even into centeroo was allowed right in.
i guess maybe i got lucky or maybe i made the best of situation. itrainmonkeys thank you for you positive comments this is my first year on the board so i really never experience this bonnaroo backlash. i will be happy to meet you next year.

I was in Pod 4(handicap) and we didn't see any cops.
My main complaint was we wanted to go to Walmart to buy some things and the TN state police told us we couldn't drive there and had to walk from Bonnaroo. My friend has RSD which is why we were in handicap camping. And I have a broken ankle and am on crutches. The State Trooper told us "oh well, I guess you can't get what you need from there then"
Say hey johnny boy, the battle call United we stand, divided we fall Together we are what we can't be alone We came to this country you made it our home

I don't think most of us here have an issue with the frat folks and kids in general. It's the people who are rude and inconsiderate who cause the problems.
What I noticed this year was more rude and demeaning behavior than ever. But I was pretty much solo this year so I really paid attention to what was going on around me. I don't know how to classify the types of people this was coming from. Thug wannabes maybe? IDK. I have never been to Bonnaroo where I just flat out heard people making fun of others, sometimes right to their faces, every single day. Some of the behavior I encountered was just crude! Maybe we should blame KOL for ruining Roo this year. Can we say that all of the asshats were KOL fans and just blame it on that?
The one thing I can't believe happened was that I was actually bullied for the first time this year! I earned my spot up front for GWAR and there were 3 guys around me, one on each side and one behind. The guy behind me wanted my spot so he could be next to his friends. So for 20 minutes before the show started the b@stards unziped my backpack, squeezed in around me, leaned on me, and one dude even spit his water in the air and I got showered with it. Nothing I said to them made any difference. One response I got was "You know you're gonna get hurt up here, right?" If I had been anywhere but Bonnaroo at least one of those douchebags would still be walking funny today cause I would have kicked his sack up into his freaking liver!
And as for the law enforcement / security situation, I heard some horror stories but I think this was the easiest year yet for me.
But anyway, regardless of some of the behavior I saw I still had a great time. It wasn't the best Bonnaroo ever but it was still Bonnaroo! I can't think of anything else I would have rather done.
I didn't see a single "cop-related situation" outside of the horse patrols.
All the people bitching should know you have to be increasingly smart in today's world.
If you are too young or inexperienced to get through a festival like this without trouble then you should take a step back and reconsider your methods. Or alternatively wait until you are older and smarter (and rid yourself of the spoiled attitude) before you revisit what should be described as a Jungle.

I promise you it was, and they weren't only busting the obvious/stupid people, they were looking hard for it in my area. They hassled our neighbors/friends from florida and took a bag from them, a small bag at that and then continued to flash their lights all in our camping stuff (it was night time) they practically raided us. I feel my privacy was invaded and most people would too. Bonnaroo is pathetic. Also, this happened alot more than once. I witnessed multiple arrests and hassling/harassing. I even saw them hassling a kid with a bag of shrooms who was tripping face. That's not right, such a bad trip, he wasn't selling or anything, just had a bag out, also a small one.
...seriously... so people are upset for being reprimanded for using ILLEGAL drugs? Don't get me wrong, I was quacked most of the time, but they are illegal drugs! It is incredibly dangerous to take even half of the drugs being offered in that type of heat. They are doing it for people's safety. If the situation were someone dying from an overdose, people would complain that the fest organizers should crack down. Just because you are at a festival does not exempt you from the law, it just means that it's more prevailent. Drugs are still illegal and people still need to keep their business private. The presence of more police simply means that they are recognizing the growing fame of the fest, so they are trying to watch out for the people. If you are not coming back to roo because you are no longer able to openly use drugs, then it's for the best, I would take safety over danger any day.

Druqs are illegal, rain makes dirt mud, it's hot in June in TN, there's an @$$hole in every crowd, and $hit stinks. These things have always been the same and they are no different at Bonnaroo.

I actually had to break up a fight that started right behind me at DMB. So maybe the crowd was a little different this year.
Regardless, I go to Bonnaroo to see great live music, I don't go for the scene, i'm too old & too uninterested. I really could care less what kind of people are there as long as they aren't fvcking with me, which none of them did.
If you have a problem with the type of people in the crowd, then watch the stage instead.
if you really think the cops are there for anyones safety your an idiot, the cops are there to make money, undercovers were running around everywhere taking peoples goodies and money and i know of at least 1 persons car, this was my third and final roo, its just not what it used to be, ill go to all good from now on
This year it was all about just surviving from 8 AM when the heat made your tent too hot (even with an EZ UP mind you) to sleep in until 6 PM when the sun was low enough in the sky that it didn't kill you. It was most DEFINITELY hotter than last year.
I'm so glad we weren't the only ones. I thought maybe we were just wimps but I was in total survival mode. It was rough. Not complaining....just sayin. Just thinking about getting out from under our ez up and going into Centeroo made me tired. And walking in that sun was slow going.

I am sorry that some people had a bad time and ran in to problems but I can state that the only issues my group dealt with were things that Roo had no control over, such as the heat.
At the tolls the coversation went like this Toll attendent: "have you been here before" me : "this is my 4th time" TA : "you know what we search the car for?" me :"glass bottles, NO NO WORD!!! ect..." ta: "you don't have any copious amounts of No No Word?" me: "we're good" ta: "you are good, go through"
I only waited more then 5 min once for water and entering center roo I had a bowl taken off of me but it was my own fault for forgeting it was in my cargo shorts.
One person from our group had the shower water shut off on him but they gave him the money back and said to comeback later. The pump broke and there is nothing they can do about it but fix it, which they did.
I never had a problem getting water, but I thought the regular water tasted just dandy.
I did almost pass out at John Fogerty - got all mushy and lightheaded but went into Cafe Where. Still hot in there but the cold damp ground seemed to drop my core temp enough that I could refresh enough to go back to camp.
I felt that there was more selling in the campsites than previous years. We joked about how crazy it was. Maybe it was because we had a lot of tents together and they knew if they entered they would have many people to sell to at once? They were often disappointed. But tee shirts, kozies, jewelry, food, and every substance you could image.
I found the mounties to be very caring - checking up on people and not hounding and not asking probing questions. My husband spent Sunday night roaming around the camps taking photos and they joked with him about seeing him again, told him to stay hydrated, etc.
The cops on the street directing traffic were cool - we gave them icy water from our coolers and chatted with them. The peeps at the gate were cool too - one security supervisor dude chatted with us a long time about our car and how we like it, and about having kids but still wanting a fast car.
I did find the porta potties more disgusting than ever before. TP was never placed in the dispensers but on the floor or next to the urinal. Made for a big friggin' waste of paper and an awful mess. That was being cheap and that was the biggest thing that pissed me off about Bonnaroo.
Act stupid, and you are treated as though you are stupid. Act smart, you are often left alone.
This year was my first roo, and i will say i had beyond a blast! I really had no problem with the police during the whole show, the water stations were in need of better water pressure and probably more stations in general, i waited a good twenty minutes for water and saw a guy pass out behind me from waiting in the heat for water. Also the porta potties were just ridiculous, ive never seen them so dirty so early on in a day.
All in all aside from the toilets and the water it was amazing, i saw tons of great bands got some sweet merch, and met some awesome people, will deff be there next year.

The whole War on Drugs is the biggest, most obvious failure in American history and it's disgusting to see bonnaroo perpetuate it. Yeah let's lock up more people for victimless crimes, that will really help us out of this recession. I hope you Coffee County sheriff fuckfaces get caught by a serial killer/torturer like a real life Saw movie. More realistically, I hope you try to bust some gangbangers with drugs and get your heads blown off by AKs. Also, I hope everyone that got busted for drugs last weekend moves to California and gets rich by growing and selling LEGAL marijuana. Arnold needs to go back in Terminator mode. If only the governor of California had more power ... oh well, it will be completely legal in the most populated state in the country come November.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH. Honestly. You know nothing about the festival scene. Seriously. Nothing. I've been to 4 music festivals in the past 2 months and guess which was the only one where the cops had a strong presence and people were getting fucked with. Yep, you guessed right, it was roo. Schwagstock at camp zoe - no problems. Wakarusa - no problems. Bonnaroo - sheriff deputys shined flashlights in our camp multiple times, witnessed many undercovers and set ups, many arrests, and them taking things from many people and even arresting a girl for selling her own artwork. Dex Fest - no problems, although i heard of just one arrest on the festival grounds.

Bonnaroo had 100 arrests, I have been to zoe 12 times, and while there is no on site trouble roughly 70-80 tickets are written for possession on the highway every time. Waka went well this year, but that was after last year and the organizers saying they would move it if there were cop searches in line this year. You know a lot less about the scene than you think kid. Statistically Bonnaroo has the least number of arrests per capita of any festival I have ever heard of.
EDIT
Also they are not releasing the Waka numbers but it was "Dozens" and a record number. Last year was 70 if I remember so probably more than that. With 18000 attendees your odds were a lot worse there than at Bonnaroo.
Man they're already bitching hardcore about Wakarusa being in their county. 64 jailed? Crazy. I personally didn't see any cop presence except for the ones sitting at the entrance. Never saw them do anything, but that's not to say they didn't. Man I hope the cops don't ruin all our fun

waka was moved to mulberry mountain because of the cops at the last festival grounds. also, i can almost guarantee you that many of the arrest at waka were probably made on the hike to the waterfall because cops were very often there and i heard first hand stories about that, however, imo, that is not the festival grounds. they were wakarusa attendees, but as compared to roo, i'm pretty sure most of those arrests weren't made in the campgrounds. also, you've also got to realize that there were satellite campsites a mile away from the venue, so i'm sure people were also arrested walking to and from that. the only time i actually saw an arrest on the festival grounds (and trust me, we were keeping an eye out) was when they busted the tanks around 6 or 7 AM the night/morning tipper played, and i was cheering the cops on for that one. i hated walking past the nitrous alley. with that said: it's obvious that security at wakarusa was WAY more relaxed than at bonnaroo. Ask anyone who was there... it stopped being 2006 long ago
Also about camp zoe: EXACTLY. YOU HAVE NO PROBLEMS ON THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS. Going to and from most festivals is a risk that you should always be aware of, but that is not part of the festival, you just have to be smart on the road.
Do you work for bonnaroo or something? No disrespect but you always seem to go balls deep defending roo....
I dont know why people bitch about the cops. If your doing something illegal there will be police around. Also, I can tell you that I appreciate the police around when people are robbing people or are spun out of their gord. You just need to be crafty and a cool muther fvcker and you will be fine.
