What happened with this entrance. Normally it is open by noon everyday. This year it was a crap-shoot. Sometimes it would open at 2. The Staff had no clue what was going on with it. Sunday was the worst. Around 12:45ish, i noticed that people were walkin on the side of the road parallel to the walkway entrance to the what stage. So i asked the staff that was directing traffic, if that lead to an entrance to the what stage. "Keep Moving." "Does this lead to centeroo?" "Move it people" "Okay i just want to know if i can get in this way" "yes" "thank you" So about 80 people begin this hike down the road, past the fire department, and then through staff/vendor/vip? camping. So finally we see the what stage, and just before we're about to get in, we're meet by another staff, saying this isn't an entrance to get in. I politely explained to the guy that there's a gentleman directing people here and they need to communicate with him to stop because there is 100 more people following behind us. So we hike all the way back to the intersection of "the road that leads to pod 1" and "the entrance to vip." Everyone is pissed at this point, yelling at staff for the lack of professionalism. Then they open the gate to the what stage after 5 min of dealing with us. You think that's where this story ends. NOO. At the security checkpoint they say the stage is still closed and we need to walk around to get into centeroo. The crowd goes nuts, including myself. The head security guy just says he can't let anyone in until he gets the okay. Meanwhile he let in either 2 people that had staff or VIP bracelets. The crowd again gets angry. there's about 150-200 of us standing here at the checkpoint. We're planing on rushing right past them. Then we see that the entrance to the arch has opened, and people are running across the field of the what stage. We yell at the guy and finally he lets us in. This whole event lasted 45-60 min, and seriously cut into my sunday.
This is my 3rd bonnaroo and i have to say they really dropped the ball this year. There were way too many people, and they didn't plan it properly. They should of sold out at 80,000. i have no clue how many people were here this year, but i know i'm not the only one that thinks there was too many.

Ashley Capps, co-founder of Bonnaroo and president of festival co-producer AC Entertainment, said attendance was more than 75,000, but slightly less than sold-out. - CBS News
With a festival of this magnitude there will be many issues in regards to inconsistent security, traffic flow, and communication. It just happens. Maybe next year try hitting up Mountain Jam or Wakarusa or another similar sized event....but even with those you'll find some problems.
Bonnaroo (and EVERY other festival) will never be perfect. There will always be complaints. We're human. It's what we do best.
I usually just read the threads and as a "noob" they have helped me a lot in preparing for a fantastic experience!
However, I feel the need to reply to this one. I have read in several places that AC puts the number of attendees at 75K. I am curious if this is the number of tickets sold, given away, etc... Because if so, the ACTUAL number of people is, IMO, a LOT higher:
I met several locals (a group of about 10 - 15) at Kid Cudi that claimed that they simply jumped a fence. They said that a lot of people were selling painted wrist bands in their high schools for $20. I saw them and they looked just like the real deal...
In addition, while waiting for DMB, we were sitting right in front of a large group (20 -25) of rednecks. None of them were wearing wrist bands and, after a while, actually got picked up by golf carts driven by festival workers. Drunk out of their minds and making fun of "us".
Based on these experiences, I guestimate that there were several thousand more people there, which really pisses me of because WE paid good money to see great bands and enjoy the experience while they could slip in due to bad perimeter security or because they know people.

was this your 1st year at ROO or just camping in pod 1??
that enterance has NEVER opened on time. this problem has been going on ever since they added it.
utilize the taxis if you ever get stuck in pod 1 again.
this was my 3rd year in pod 1. I only actually used that entrance twice the entire weekend. I bought a shuttle pas and found it fairly useless and gave it away. I really don't mind walking the entire hike. It just was a joke. To be told almost twice to turn around, it just showed there was no communication at all. It lacked the professionalism that i used to like about bonnaroo. I feel like bonnaroo is a world-class event. It's very well planned and executed. However this year i felt the need to express my concern on the matter. I just want the problem fixed by next year. I love this festival and i hope that these issues will be addressed with management and corrected.
oh lord....instead of cutting through vip or keeping that entrance open, they made us walk around the vip area which, as mentioned before made a 10 minute trip into a 35+min walk. Although my friends made the walk bearable, the heat was really intense. I'm such a complainer
Second year in BFE and I actually had less trouble this year with the entrance by the What Stage than last year. Maybe it's just 'cause I went in a bit later than last year, but I felt they did a pretty OK job.
This was my 3rd year in Pod 1 (honestly, I dont mind, it's quiet at night and I think the theft is less here) and that entrance at the What Stage is absolutely necessary for safety reasons, especially during Roos like this one where the heat index is insane. My first year in Pod 1 (2008) there was no taxi service. So the first day we walked alllllllllll the way up and around VIP (no one allowed in there but VIP wristbands) to Shakedown and then down to the arch. It was pretty brutal in the direct sun. When we learned of the What Stage entrance it was like a whole new story. I didnt dread the walk, and it cut our walk time by like 40 minutes. Last year, with the advent of the Festaxi, we didnt really walk at all in the evenings, since that gate shuts down at midnight. But again, it was hot and having a short walk to get to Centeroo was great. THIS YEAR - those bastards shut it down on Saturday or something to say it was for VIP entrance ONLY! This is total BS. It was TOO HOT and UNSAFE to ask people to walk all the way around to the Arch, or be forced to spend money on taxis. Now - I budget $10/day for the taxis to save my feet for the weekend so I wasnt personally affected, but seriously? Make up your mind! Even on the map the entrance was supposed to be for everyone. I love the Roo, and I agree, there are gonna be communication issues, and timing issues and such - but it's an entrance. Just open it and close it at the same time, for everyone, for 4 days. How hard can it be.
