If anyone has any knowledge on this it would be very helpful to me. Short story is that I had a dickhead landlord for 2 years who lied to me a lot and ended up screwing me over a lot of money. He happens to own a salon, and so we were having a smoke the other day and decided to write up some bogus reviews on a few dif sites. Probably due to the smoke, I accidentally didn't realize that signing into yahoo to write a few reviews would actually link my whole name with the post... and so a month later he is calling me and threatening to press charges.
I'm going to change the reviews and think it'll be alright... I just really want to know if he is bluffing because it doesn't seem like legally this would be that big a deal. I mean anyone could have made up my name and posted that. Any legal scholars out there?

Slander is nigh impossible to prove or prosecute. Lawyers want so much up front it is doubtful he will do it.

^ also, it kind of depends on what you said. if you were like "bad service" essentially and that's it, you are allowed to review consumer products and services publicly. if you were all like "dude straight up just creamed all over his comb and spackled my hair straight up, mugged me, and gave me rabies" then you might have committed libel against him and his profession. really though he is just probably angry and saying what he can in spite
it probably isn't wisest to rely on legal advice from strangers on a music festival site
although I would like to point out that there happen to be several lawyers on here and at least one paralegal with 20 years of experience - although the likelihood of getting actual legal advice through a message board is slim

My advice almost always goes something like this: I can't really give you advice. You should probably go talk to a lawyer who practices this kind of law.

I wouldn't actually spend money or take any legal advice on here as a final source.... but i think it would be fairly obvious if someone on here knew a lot about it and had a convincing post to back that up. I mean there would be no reason to make somethin up about this... and everything you all have said backs up everything everyone else said that I actually talked to
The situation wasn't really that big a deal... I immediately changed the review and haven't heard back from the guy. If I was more worried about something happening I would have obv gone somewhere else.... it was just easier to post here since it's not that big a deal and I'm mostly curious at this point.
Mainly I'm just pissed that taking that hour to write those phony reviews actually was going to be worth it in terms of pissing him off and if I had made sure all the names were anonymous he would have had no clue!
Any other ideas of somethin that wouldn't be too legally risky that would piss him off?
(btw this is the ONLY person i have this kind of vendetta against. I've shaken off many dickhead coaches, teachers, bosses and moved on without another thought about them. This guy seriously made my life hell at times and deserves all the bad karma he can get, and i know i'm not the only house that has rented from him that feels the same way. I just hate nothing more than someone purposefully trying to rip me off or take advantage of me)
