Anyone getting ready for Hullabalou? I mentioned this fest to my mom right before Christmas, and next think we new Santa had brought us all a VIP ticket. While I am excited, I'm a little apprehensive. First big fest at Churchill downs may be a little hairy. The icing on the cake...we're taking our three year old. Our neighbors at Bonnaroo were from Louisville and they said they expected it to pretty much be a CF. A few of their friends had volunteered to work it, but quit because it was so disorganized. The good part is that the lineup has a few good bands and a good many that I don't care anything about so I'll be there primarily to make sure my son is comfortable and has a good time. He's really excited about seeing Dave. I'm hoping the VIP will be worth it!

I'm about to buy a ticket just for the DMB day. Bon Jovi is tempting but I don't want any part of Saturday and Kenny Chesney. I'm looking much more forward to Forecastle though so I think I'm gonna lock up those tix first

I have heard a ton of good and bad things about this fest. Devo will be there...that alone should get you a ticket but seats kinda sounds like a dumb idea to me too!

What an *eclectic* lineup.....does CF stand for country fest?
I may be able to get my Dad to take me to this His fiance lives in Louisville and he is always looking for an excuse to go + he loves country music! I would just go for Saturday and Sunday.

I think you are thinking of Forecastle. Devo won't be at this one.

I'm trying to get media clearence, and if I do I'm going. I want to see The Avetts and Steve Miller Band, and like the idea of seeing a bunch of oldies/classic rocks acts.

I am super excited to see Steve Miller, the Doobies, Forcastle, DMB and Zac. The rest I'm not stressing about so it may be fun to not have to hurry around trying to see a lot of bands and worry about keeping up with my 3 year old that my mom purchased a VIP ticket for (thanks a lot mom). Six flags is right down the street so I may take him over there during the day. Maybe it will be fun for a CF??
You're excited to see Forecastle? What's your favorite song by them?
Favorite Forecastle song: Fight Test with a Space Wrangler in 1979, heard it? It's brand new.
Pull out Forecastle, insert The Avetts. Cut and pasted some of the post when I was trying to reduce the size of my post. A friend of ours is touring with Panic so we got free tix to Forcastle. Which, funny enough, is part of what I "cut" out of that post because I thought it sounded kind of pompus. But somehow I'm not worried about that anymore.

Anywho....if anyone hasn't bought tickets to Hullabou yet, you're in luck. They crapped out on the 3 day VIP tix because they weren't selling (at 1000 a piece, go figure) so they just released all of the 3 day vip seats and are selling them as 1 day seats now. This means that people buying tickets this week will get better seats then we got when we bought ours the day they went on sale. The website says 3 day VIPs are sold out, but the scoop is that they weren't selling so they changed the way they were selling tickets all together. Front, center seats were originally only available as a three day ticket but can now be had as a one day. Bought a couple of extras for friends to go, they got center section, 4th row, and ours are far right, 11th row.

I got media clearance, but I'm not sure if it's just for me or if I get a companion ticket. Is anyone else going as media, or is anyone else going at all?

They raised the prices for the one day passes. Tell us how it is. I just can't imagine sitting in seats all day long. I think I'm going to go see Robert Randolph instead.

I'm hoping if the seats part is horrible there will be some media standing area that's worth it. I'll do a full write up of it and let you know if it's worth going next time.

Thanks geezer. The classic acts were so much better than I was expecting them to be. And the crowd was small enough to see them that it was a really intimate atmosphere. I definitely plan to go back next year.
My experience of Forecastle, another Louisville festival, was similar. It was easy to get a prime spot for any show. At times the audience was too sparse - on the side stages it was generally possible to walk right up to the edge of the stage.
And to extend the comparison a bit, Forecastle's classic act, DEVO, was way better than I expected. My uncharitable expectation was for an over-the-hill novelty act cashing in on 15 minutes of early '80s fame, but their show felt completely authentic. Their enthusiasm and silly energy was infectious, and we all had a great time.
