How do you all know about these festivals?
Roo was awesome this year, but we took the kiddos & are thinking we should try to squeeze in another festival w/o them - completely different experience, ya know?
But, I really liked the camping aspect of Roo & Voodoo doesn't offer that (I don't wanna pay a million bucks for a hotel room, or drive after partying it up or be around other drivers that have partied it up).
I'd like to find something less than the 13 hour drive to Bonnaroo (Texas).
So, how do you know about other camping festivals?

if you like the Voodoo lineup, it's not too hard to find an inexpensive hotel... and you don't have to drive from City Park, where it takes place, just use the streetcars!!
^^ Truth. Hotel prices don't normally go up for Voodoo Fest, either, because it's not "that" big of a deal in the city. Also, New Orleans is pretty small for a city (in my opinion), and if your hotel were to be in downtown you could easily walk between it and bourbon st./the quarter. Most likely you'd only spend 2 nights on hotel in NO, possibly 3, and with the saved costs of Voodoo compared to Bonnaroo you pretty much come out even (even if it is one day shorter). 2$ for a ride on the streetcars will take you from downtown straight to city park.. takes a few minutes, but the ride couldn't be any more pretty and relaxing.
Also, once you fall into the scene of music festivals, you just pick up on it all a little at a time.

Attending a music festival is like joining a gang. Once you're in there's no getting out. Sure it starts with one festival. Next thing you know you're attending 7+ festivals a year while drooling over 10 other festivals that you're dying to go to and trying to scrounge up money to attend them as well. Don't say we never warned you! ;D
And yes, come to Voodoo! It's a great time and one of the cheapest festivals. Hotels are cheap (especially when you split it with a group of other people) and you can walk or take the trolley most anywhere.

The Hangout this year was my first fest... Bonnaroo my second. I'm totally hooked now. As soon as I got back from Bonnaroo I started looking for another fest and/or show to go to that would help me through my withdrawals lol.
VooDoo it is! and who knows what i'll find to get into in between now and then.
I will say this again and leave it alone. Zoe is closer than roo and 60 a person. Do not bring the kids but expect a darn good time.
I looked it up, but honestly, I don't know a single band on any of the lineups. I haven't taken the time to look them up either yet, admittedly.
I listen to a lot of Alt Nation & XMU on my XM/Sirius radio. I like a lot of folk, but I also like the more poppy stuff (Phoenix, Temper Trap, etc.) - never thought I'd say I like pop in any form We went once to the main stage at Roo (Tenacious D) & not again. I'd probably do the same at Voodoo if we went.
So, I don't know what kind of bands they are, but I'll give em a listen later today
Going to other festivals makes you think there's more out there than just bonnaroo and then you do a few more and it also helps you realize how amazing bonnaroo really is.
If you're looking for another festival that's close enough to drive to where you can camp, I hear great things about Wakarusa. It's the weekend before Bonnaroo, so still a long way away, but it might be the best. You may not know the bands from this year's, but check them out, lots of great stuff.
