Hello All, 2010 was my 3rd 'Roo and my 2nd time with a RV....I had a blast as expected. (wish MMJ and Warren Haynes were there but, hey, can't have everything...the lips made up for it) I can't see myself ever going back to tent camping as the extra sleep by far out weighed the $150 RV pass and gas it took for the generator. I think back to '07 and remember laying down at 4am and baking in the sun by 9am....eh, I'll pass. I still had a great time but it drains so much out of you that one can't even enjoy the festival.
Anyway, after this year (guess I spoiled myself) my normal 'roo crew and I were thinking that maybe the step up to VIP in 2011 might be worth the price...maaaaybe. I think the main thing that impressed me the most was that when we were watching the lips @ the which stage....I went to get a beer. I noticed some girls dancing beside the stand (which was directly behind the sound crew) and someone coming out from behind a separated partition in the the fence. I walked over and asked them if any security was watching this area. They said "no, go on through...people have been doing it the whole show".......sooo, I went and got the only buddy that was still around at this time (it was a craazy night) and we went through the separated part of the fence, around the soundboard, and BAM!...we were in that middle section between the crowds that lead all the way to the front row....VIP I assume. It was so awesome.....fans blowing cold air, chairs that were built into the fence, no shoulder to shoulder bumping, Wayne Cohen about 10 feet in front of me (didn't go all the way down because there was a security dude). Mind Blowing! I instantly thought; "THIS IS WHERE I WANNA BE FOR EVERY SHOW!!"......we got to see the last 4 songs of the Dark Side album (and the show) before getting busted and sent back out the same way, which didn't matter cause it was over.
This leads me to the questions...the REAL questions...of what it means to be VIP.
I know the price...I know that camping spots (beside What stage and the entrance into)....I know about the showers and bathroom trailers...I know about the Thursday night party and food and if you purchase the meal plan, the lunch and dinner Fri., Sat., and Sun...I know about the Stadium seating at What stage and Which stage...I know about the 3 lounges throughout the place to go hangout and get a drink......and lastly the different "check-in" so you aren't sitting on the side of the interstate waiting to get in (such as the 6HRS we waited this year...crazy)
Sooo... can anyone tell me something I don't know or correct me about the stuff above?
Do you have the same middle/front row option at the What stage as I was in on Which stage? and do you have have to show up early or can you get there whenever?
On the What stage, do you have access to the balcony decks on the actual stage or only the stadium seats? and if not, who are those people?
In general, where all can you go? Are there different entrances (besides the what stage from your camping spot) that you can use? as in between the different stages and tents? like a bypass through all the general admission folks?
Do you get free golf cart taxis from place to place or entrance to entrance?
Do you get to meet any band members? or comedians? Is there one VIP lounge somewhere behind the stages that everyone hangs out at?
Annnny information on the inside scoop from people that have been before would be great....THANKS!!! HAPPY ROO!!!

VIP is great! I woke up Thursday a.m drove right up to the entrance (they gave us the bracelets, and parking passes in the mail this year so no VIP meeting point, you got to go straight in) and I meanstraight in, I drove up they scanned my bracelet, and I drove in, the camp site is much bigger, and there are less campers in VIP so more room. Thursday night party is free t-shirt,poster, and dinner and alcohol, honestly 4 hours of free alcohol you can at least get some of your ticket $ back by drinking a lot, the showers are semi clean but air conditioned as are the bathroom. There is a huge air conditioned pavilion which has internet, bean bags, couches, beers, drinks, chargers for cell phones, cameras, etc. and a shit load of people just end up pulling there air mattress in and sleeping in the a.c. You have the VIP bleachers and hill (which I rarely use), access to a few air conditioned tents in centeroo, and there is no wait to get in to centeroo, from tent to bonnaroo arch it took me 2 minutes. Start saving and def. do it, it makes the weekend so much more enjoyable, and you can still hang in general camping and eat delicious waffles and grilled cheeses

On the What stage, do you have access to the balcony decks on the actual stage or only the stadium seats? and if not, who are those people? They are not VIP, most likely family or friends of the artists that are playing

VIP is what you described in your first paragraph and that is pretty much it.

VIP is worth it to me for: 10min to get in rather than 8hrs. Thursday night free food/beer/music. Camp site size. (We had 2 E-Z Ups, Tent, and a tarp from an easy up to the car, and room to spare) The bathrooms. (I could care less about the showers) Not having to go through the arch entrance. Proximity to Centeroo. Being able to relax on the hill to gain energy for the night. Able to show up to a big Which set and still able to see from bleachers. Less than 5min to get back on I24 after leaving.

Right on....thanks for the info. I guess it was total access then......well those people have it made!!
Thanks for the replies folks...It still seems worth it to go VIP. I mean the less "work" of getting back and forth equals more time to enjoy the music which is the whole point for me.
HOWEVER, One day I would LOVE to go Total Access just for the behind the scenes part....I could care less about the nice coach/bus thing you get. I would just like to be able to see my favorite bands up front and center withouth the fight through the crowd and maybe hang out with them backstage....
I can get my $2300 if 7 more want to split it.. or maybe I should be trying to figure out how to get a press pass...hmmmm
i thought there was a thread somewhere about "that" passes but i couldn't find it. there seemed to be alot of people with those this year. those aren't total access, but maybe those are people that work for the record companies that have bands playing or yuppies with enough cash to relive their younger years in 1 weekend.
Also looking to go VIP here for next year after a disastrous and fairly uncomfortable return visit in 2010. Great info so far, but a couple more questions.
1.) Where is the specific traffic entry/ exit? How are you able to avoid the clusterquack that surrounds Roo to get in? Traffic is one of my major beefs and one of the main reasons why I am thinking of VIP.
2.) Is the only meal/ alcohol session you are given on the Thursday evening? I had heard that a daily brunch and some cold drinks were made available at no additional charge to VIP'ers throughout the weekend? At what point does this Thursday session occur and for how long? Basically, would I have to sacrifice some of the Thursday tent acts to partake in this?
3.) The hill beside What for viewing, does this give one a better/ closer viewpoint than being midway back on the field?
4.) Do you have to purchase VIP tix in pairs? They are what roughly $700 each? Do these sell out?
5.) What does the merch package consist of? Just a shirt?

You get instructions that bring you in the back way via an interstate exit that is about 10 miles from the regular exits. You are routed into the VIP camping area by coming up the road that goes down to BFE. This, for my money, is the best reason to pay for VIP. This year was five minutes, literally. That's worth serious coin for this old man.

Thursday night is the only free food, drink and beer for the VIPs. That changed last year--before, VIP included all meals. I have not done the food thing the past two years b/c it is $200 for six meals. That's a lot of Spicy Pie. The meal starts about 6:00 on Thursday and the entertainment about 8--so yes, you would miss some tent acts--but you might get something better in VIP. It's definitely a small show at VIP--maybe 250-500 people tops over there on Thursday night.
3.) The hill beside What for viewing, does this give one a better/ closer viewpoint than being midway back on the field?
It's about the same. You have plenty of room to spread out, though, and they provide chairs.
4.) Do you have to purchase VIP tix in pairs? They are what roughly $700 each? Do these sell out?
Always in pairs. Not sold out the past two years. They cut the size of VIP down this year and still had plenty of room for more folks.
5.) What does the merch package consist of? Just a shirt? A shirt and a poster.
The bleachers (Which) and the hill (What) are the only VIP viewing areas.
Great Info guys....THANKS TO ALL!!! I think I finally have a good idea about what it is to be VIP. I'm sold, unless a group wants to get together for Total Access...
Oh shit, seriously you have to buy in pairs? So when I saw VIP was around 1,200 that was for two tickets???? FUCKKKKKKKK I so would pay $600-$700 for a VIP ticket.
^ thank you sir for all the quick info. May good things come your way and I'll be sure to say hi in VIP next year.
BTW, what kind of entertainment/ show occurs in VIP? Who have you seen play there in the past?
This year was Big Sam's Funky Nation + one of the comedians. Last year was Chair Lift and Janelle Monáe.
As mentioned the nice thing about those shows is that it is not crowded at all. If I wanted to I could have walked up to Big Sam and shook his hand in the middle of his set.
It was also easy to balance between the scheduled shows since you are only about a 5 minute walk to centeroo. You don't like the VIP band? It would only take you 5-10 minutes to get to whichever tent you did want to see.
