So four weeks puts us at 3 days before Roo. Hopefully most of the cicada activity will be over by then. Otherwise, I may be bringing cicadas to brunch.

Glad to hear they've shown up, fingers crossed that they're dead by Roo! Or at least that the worst is over. I am going to turn into such a sniveling baby the minute one of them flies anywhere near me, none of you are going to want to be around me!
I am sure those in the far west heard me scream last night whe one landed in my hair.. I know all of Maryland heard! It was far reaching! Even my four boys got scared! UGH! I dont want them at ROO!!!!
Maybe Roo will just be lucky...I live less than a half hour in SC where they first emerged over 2 weeks ago ...and haven't seen one...<fingers crossed>... and lived thru them in N Va years ago...we DON'T want them at the farm in June...
They are ALL OVER my backyard here in Nashville. The really don't do anything though. They aren't even making noise yet. They just sit in one spot, rarely even fly around.
Hey, is there anything we can do to protect Matt's tree from these pesky critters? The female cicadas lay 400-600 eggs in twigs & small branches of trees which could cause serious damage.

i live in Hermitage which is about 8 minutes east of nashville proper. my land is fairly wooded. just a few nights ago i started hearing them, but i haven't seen any, even when i mowed my yard today. usually they are attracted to lawn mower noises so I don't know if it is too early, or if it is just mild, or just a very localized type of mob.
Actually somehow I got some beads from one of those dry packs that come pre packaged with electronics in there, I think the t is fixed but who knows what is next. I should just replace the keyboard on this thing.
Ugh. We had a cidapolis when I was in college in Ohio. I dont remember seeing many, but the sound was deafening. I remember being chased away from a hiking trip because they were soooooo loud.

I would think that they don't widespread spray for these guys since it would be eco-nihilistic to do so and they only show up every zillion years or so. Are their things that people do with their personal growths to protect them? I wouldn't know cuz we don't get these buggers up here like you do.

Matt's tree isn't a sapling is it? I think they are only really harmful to small trees. The females laying eggs just cause scaring, which isn't good but shouldn't hurt it to bad.
If someone in the area has netting and can give it to Roofan that would keep them off.
