Hey Everybody, Figured I’d let y’all know about the Wuhnurth Music Festival going down in Spencer, Indiana at a beautiful campsite called Stable Studios. It’s going down from September 17-19, 2010 and is gonna be legit. They’ve already announced a good number of bands and they’re gonna keep announcing them for another few weeks. Looks like a good time. Check out the website for some more information

This was the best fest of the year for me. It's only a short drive from my house. You pull up, park, drag your car, get your ticket, hop on a flatbed trailer for a one mile jaunt to the site. Then you have to drag your gear to find a camp site. It's all primitive camping, so you have to clear out your site of debris. We found a sweet spot with a decent breeze. I thought it was just going to be me and a couple of buddies but more people showed up. There was absolutely zero security. It was basically a free for all. So relaxed. There was a pond with a few canoes and a paddleboat. There were dogs roaming around everywhere along with children. Everyone was so respectful and peaceful. I didn't witness any fights or ill will. Hell, even the nitrous tanks had silencers on them. The first night, I got the best sleep I've had in a long time. I was shooting photos for a guy doing a documentary on the fest, so I was working while raging. The highlight of the fest was the Marco Benevento Trio. It was Marco, Ween's bass player and Norah Jones' drummer. All I can say is that there should be more piano driven rock n roll out there.
One of the best parts of the best for me, was being able to go backstage to take photos. When I saw there was zero security, I mean absolutely none. No one even guarding the barricades.
Stable Studios has such a nice property. There were probably only 1000 people there,if that, which was perfect. Everyone did an amazing job of picking up after themselves. I rarely saw any trash on the ground. If you ever get the chance to go, do it.

Totally agree with QS - Wuhnurth was a ball. We had only positive interactions with festival staff and fellow attendees the whole weekend. The combination of small size and uncrowded shows with high quality performances of a wide variety of music is a real winner.
Like QS, I liked Marco Benevento Trio best. I also loved Papadosio, Dead Winter Carpenters, Covert Operations, Ali Baba's Tahini, and Fresh Hops. (We left before Cornmeal, the Sunday evening headliner.)

Really, 2500. I wouldn't guessed more than a 1000 people. I hope they did well enough to hold it again next year.
Geezer, Cornmeal was ok on Sunday. I've seen them 5 or 6 times in the last year and they've had more energy at the small club shows. But they still brought it like they always do. We stayed until around midnight.
I think it was on Friday, there was a chick with an LED hoop at the main stage who was on fire. I've never seen anyone hoop like her. It was other worldly. She would spin it up and down her body faster than I've ever seen. Anybody else witness this or was it Lucy?

Thanks for the Cornmeal mini-review, QS. I'm glad I didn't miss the highlight of the weekend!
Regarding the hoop dancer, I recall being really impressed by the hooping Friday night, but I didn't focus enough on a particular dancer to have the memory that you do.
Regarding Lucy, my 19-year-old son recklessly introduced my 17-year-old son to her, and the 17-year-old spent about six hours in an unhinged state. He's the guy who jumped up on the stage during Marco Benevento and gave the drummer a high five. I'm really glad I was there to look after him and that the overall atmosphere was as friendly and accepting as it was. That was quite an experience! :-)

gEEZER, That's hilarious. I was in the front row taking pics where your son very calmly passed by me, jumped on a speaker, and then onto the stage. I've got pics of it. His pupils were huge. I laughed my ass off about that. I posted links to my wuhnurth pics on the wuhnurth FB page. I think your son's pics are in there.
