oh wow. time to familiarize yourself then! I'm no expert on the genre, but I think these are more electronica genre artists. I know I've seen some of these at electronica events like Starscape and whatnot before. (Youtube them to see if you like em)
Tickets are on sale right now too. Presale is normally $100 but there's a sale: today's $70, then $80 tomorrow, and I think $90 Monday until it's back to $100 after then.
motocross racing all day Sunday. should be neat. I've never heard of motocross at a festival before, so it'll be refreshing to see something new and different.
I've got my ticket. Just hoping I can have enough time in my study schedule and get back to class in time on Monday morning. I'm tryin to fly in Wed night (if I find a cheap place to stay near Portland) or more likely on Thursday, then leave Sunday night if I can afford it or cheaper for asap Monday morning. Class at 11am though...would make me nervous to get back on time. We shall see... Also have a friend that's tryin to get those days off work (even though they dont want anyone taking time until Sept 12th, lol, and he's got his ticket too). Gonna have to wait longer to make flight arrangements though, unfortunately.
The only thing I'm worried about is Sunday night. I work Monday thru Thursday, so Friday is fine. But my hours are 6:30 to 5, so I would need to leave there sometime Sunday afternoon.
I just hope nothing major happens late Sunday, or late night period.
The way I see it... something's better than nothing. even if you do miss something, its better than being bored at home all weekend.
PS. I just asked on their Facebook what time things end on Sunday, so I'll let you know what I find out. I don't *think* they have much late night stuff Sunday.
I had seen they were selling single day tickets on Sunday for only 20 bucks anyway. Maybe it was because of the races.
I'm going. I got them at the $70 level, which is nice. Yeah, this will be better than nothing for sure. Get to learn new stuff and go to Maine also, a place I haven't been to all that much. And certainly better than the plans I had before for that weekend. :x
Oh joy. The hotels in Auburn-Lewiston are either dumps or triple digits a night. And then anything cheaper in Portland area gets negated by the 70 mile round trip. What to do, what to do?
So yes, hopefully I will see you Ellie and anyone else from here up there next month.
It'll definitely be smaller and probably a LOT cooler than Roo, so I'd even say take a tent, warm blankets, and PJs that are warm too. The other weekend I went to southern NY and I was even a little chilly there once the sun started setting. Made it hard to leave the tent since our warmth stayed in there blocked from the breeze and whatnot. We definitely realized if we're goin to Maine, definitely want layers and warm options.
Just got my syllabus for class....annnnd looks like I have a test that Monday, which isn't gonna work if I was tryin to fly back Monday morning. Not worth the stress, so I might have to sell my ticket to someone else now.
1) My friend had a family only wedding and is having friends over on the 11th for a bbq to celebrate that I kinda feel bad not going to (I warned her after findin out about this, but also just wrote back on there that I can go now, lol) 2) I'll be too excited and/or exhausted on the plane and/or bus rides to study well (would come Thurs with a friend, bus to Bangor, and hang out with our DJ friend in Bar Harbor for the night, then we all go to DankFest together) 3) I found out it's really 2 exams. 1 for the lecture and 1 for the lab, both on the 13th 4) Sunday is more expensive (but only $20 more I think) 5) My mom keeps buggin me about her wanting to take time off and she keeps asking about Sept 8-9 and I keep avoidin tellin her why I'm not available then
I'm gonna wait and see, I guess, cause I've taken this class online before and the 1st chapters are usually easier...these are the 2nd sets of exams for the semester though already, so it might be a lil difficult. gotta wait and see what the class is like and if i can remember those body systems (anatomy/physiology class).
I'm gonna let my friend decide when he wants to leave and if he ends up leaving Sunday night, and if I can still afford the flight, then I'll go, but I wont sell my ticket too fast, I think. I got it cheap on purpose not just to save money but in case I can't find someone to sell it too, it's less money I lost.
I dunno... we'll see. It really comes down to money... I have a hard time saving up, paying my $360 car payment, and about to renew my registration and get an emissions inspection which costs $100 right there pretty much, AND found out I need a different lab manual, which is $125 new ($70 on craiglist, $90 used at bookstore if I'm lucky) ...all on a babysitter's budget of $130ish/week. ick!
Ouch. Yeah, that's quite a bit you got going there. I don't blame you if you don't show up. It's always nice to get out - see different parts of the country and go hit up festivals. But if you're busy and tight on cash, these things happen.
As for me: I just got a full time job last month, so now I will soon have some money to do things. Going to 'Roo a couple months ago burned through a lot of my savings from previous full time jobs. I had skipped over the big festivals in the area this summer (Gathering of the Vibes, Newport Folk, Nateva) due to lack of funds, so I'm at least thankful I found out about this. Now I can at least get to one more festival this year. (Voodoo would be nice, but probably not a wise idea this year.)
Yeah. i definitely wanna see Maine at some point. Go to Acadia National Park and whatnot. pretty!
My idea was DankFest then MoogFest, but I dunno if I'm even gonna end up goin to Moog either. Probably gonna be 8 hour drive down, then gotta find a cabin or cheap hotel (I prefer cabin though) and work out plans with friends. And of course, not sure what my money situation will be. I'd *like* to think I'll have a better job by then, but it's tough to work around my all day Mon/Wed classes and when I don't have much experience outside of teaching/babysitting sorta stuff.
update: I hope I keep gettin unexpected hours. I just got 8 hours this Saturday. yay! money!
I prob will leave here Friday morning, try and get to Portland around lunchtime. [Downtown Portland is nice, if you get a chance to check it out. I went up there with a friend of mine last April, didn't spend terribly much time though.] There's a couple of brewpubs downtown which are good, so I'll find one those. Perhaps hit up the big Bull Moose (CD/DVD store) in Scarborough, before heading further north to the festival.
Yeah, well... after finding out the mom I was *going* to babysit on Saturday for 8 hours told me the wrong day and I lost a big chunk of money right there, so I'm poorer than I thought. If only I had a sugar daddy that'd pay for me, haha!
I'm gonna have a hard time finding the money just to pay my car payment. I made payments directly from my debit account thinking I'd have that $110ish in my account this weekend. blah. shoulda put them on my credit card.
Well, now you don't have to worry bout paying to get to Maine for a weekend.
Bummer though. Looked on the News Feed on Facebook and saw it was cancelled (and you posting on it). This was something I was looking forward to doing. I still might just go to Portland for the hell of it, since I'm in a Maine mood now. Or really consider Voodoo.

Too bad they had to cancel. I'd like to go to Maine myself, but I think I'm gonna try to do Nateva Next year, then go from there to All Good, and work with Clean Vibes at both. That'll make it a lot more affordable, since I'll be able to get a free ticket and get paid cash for working after the first two days post-fest.
My DJ friend that was gonna play at 1 of the domes is pissed. He says he's not going next year, but I think that's really close-minded of him. Just cause this happened this year doesnt mean it wont be awesome next year. Plus, free ticket to anyone who bought 1 this year...yay!
I doubt I'll make it next year, but I'll definitely try to at least visit Maine in the future... I want to travel and see the world as much as I can!
If anyone still wants to stick with a fest that weekend and into the electronica music: there's this one in Afton/Bainbridge NY: www.manafest.org/2010/ Manafest
