Doesn't look like I'll have the money for me and my lady to go VIP this year, so we're going to do the Wednesday night arrival (BFE) then high tail it to TO for camp Inforoo in the morning!
as someone who has been VIP 4 times now (2006-2009 - I skipped roo in 2010), I will say, the VIP experience is incredibly watered down now. IT's more expensive and you get less. They also have a much much bigger campground which waters it down even more. It's BS imo. It actually really upsets me how much worse VIP is now. and Now they offer a super-VIP called total access for $23,000 for 8 tickets. It's a super cool package, but fuck, $23000 dollars? what?
I've taken an RV to Bonnaroo 6 times (2004-2009), and it is unquestionably the best decision I have made regarding roo. It blows VIP away.
Our first Roo was last year. I am not a fan of tent camping after my time in the Army...I like climate control.
So I bought a 1980 Dodge Sporcraft for 2600. It is in good shape, heat and ac both work, generator works, full bath, little kitchen, awnings are in good shape, only 60000 miles.
What I am saying is for about the cost of one years VIP you can have a moible festival assault vehicle. I spent 4 months watching Craigslist and found this one...orginaly at 4800. We are preping for trout season and some early assults on a big lake here in MO as pre Roo test runs.
Glad I live in Manchester and can sleep in my own bed. I couldn't stand waking up in a tent in a Tenessee summer! Whatever you decide, PLEASE take care of yourself. We get so many people down here from up north that really do not understand how dangerous the heat can be. I found a guy in 2009 passed out in a field (mid-day) well away from the Roo site. I have no doubt he would have died had I not woke him up and used his phone to call some friends to get him. He had no idea how he ended up there.
I've said it before, GA campers are a hardy group. I can't do that heat and I need some room. VIP is my only option. Comparing Roo's VIP to other festivals, the other ones don't come close. I mean an air conditioned bathroom on a 95 degree day is a life saver. I can't poop in the heat. ;D

I'm splitting a VIP because I need access to the airconditioning and I'll take every other upgrade they give me. The heat this year (it was my first time ) makes me think twice about GA.But my friend I"m traveling with is going GA so I'll be camping at night GA and heading over to VIP area as much as possible the rest of the time. We'll see how this works out.

I camped for my first 7 years, then 2 years ago got an RV. IMO, it wasnt worth it and made the heat more unbearable. RB's make you soft, i remember just feeling more drained than usual and longing for A/C. with the camping, you dont even notice the heat by saturday.
The only problem I have with RV's is my friends who bring them turn into creatures of the night and spend half their Bonnaroo time inside hiding from the heat. It is a lot easier to get your ass inside centeroo if you do not have the option of showers AC, and a place to poop uncontaminated by the butts of at least 12000 people before you. Some people really do just use them to sleep, but I did not go to Bonnaroo to live in a simulated trailer park myself, I went to see my tunes.
There is a fine line between a campsite that is comfortable enough, and way too comfortable.

I'm still waiting for that year -- hoping its this year -- where it's not as hot as Hades on the farm. Still, I expect heat at this point, and I agree that it's probably good to get adjusted to it. I've done VIP the last three years, and I'll pop in and out of the air-conditioned tent, but I try not to spend too much time in there, just because I know the contrast will make the heat feel even more oppressive.

Last year it got hot really early every day, which pretty much forced a wakeup upon 90% of the people in and around my campsite. Hopefully it'll be easier this time around, since I just don't have the money for anything more than the very basics.
Im staying in GA but I am going more prepared. Tarp an easy up on all for sides with double clear plastic and running my 5000 btu air conditioner during the day from like 7:00am to when the bands start, or when Im ready to head in to centeroo. Running it off of a honda generator with a vented box between my car and my friends cars to keep sound down. I love GA and the tent city is part of the roo experience for me so I really dont want to go the rv route. Hopefully this can give me the extra couple of hours of sleep I will need to have the best experience.
I was there in '09 and '10, so I know what you mean by dealing with two different extremes heat-wise. For'10 I decided to sleep in a hammock instead of the tent I slept in back in '09, and I'd consider that a huge upgrade in itself. I set the hammock up under my shade canopy, and I was usually the last person up in our campsite. Without the greenhouse effect of a tent I could relax comfortably in the hammock during the day, too.
It didn't change my experience other than being able to stay out longer. I got to enjoy the best parts of 'Roo for longer, so I'd say it was definitely worth switching over to. My brother said he was going to switch over to a hammock, too, and the only change we're going to make is a better stand to set the hammocks up on. It's definitely worth considering when you look at the total upgrade costs of things like VIP, RV's, and hotel rooms.
I guess it sort of an upgrade but I was thinking of renting the onsite tent. The proximity looks great and there seems to be a lot room. This will be my wife's first Roo and I want her to kind of ease into it. Has anyone else used one of the onsite tents?
We did that last year, split between four people. Personally if it was just two, I wouldn't think it would be worth it but if you're rolling in dough more power to you.
The tents, cots, and proximity were all on point. It was nice showing up and just locking the car and walking into Centeroo. However, the neighbors were completely lame. Barely saw anyone most of the time. Nobody was partying, getting to know each other, etc. Basically just saw people putting on sunscreen and getting their bags ready to go in for a minute each day. I dont even think half of the tents were filled honestly. Now obviously you're not gunna necessarily want to be around a bunch of braindead college kids with your wife, but considering her first impression of the farm, the Tent City area was COMPLETELY lacking in the spirit of Bonnaroo. The convenience of location ruled, cuz it only cost me an extra $200 on top of my regular ticket price...but pretty much everything else about it sucked.
I realized half way through the weekend that I could have spent an extra $100 and gotten a VIP ticket and brought my own tent. I'm not an outdoorsy camping kind of guy at all but I'm assuming I could set up a tent (with instructions) by the time I finish my first beer or two. No big deal.
That being said, I'm upgrading to VIP this year and bringing a cheap tent. I think the other perks of VIP including the private entrances far outweight the benefits of renting the tent. It would come out to less if you are buying it for two anyways. The tent gimmick I think is $800 plus the cost of two GA tix. SO if you are treating her and buying everything that would be about the same price as a pair of VIP tix. The perks your girl will utilize in VIP will ease her into the madness tenfold over the perks she would experience in the rented tents....plus she wont have to wait in traffic for 8 hours just to get in on the first day, giving her a terrible first impression.
