2 things I hated last year, the walks from Grizwald (BFGDE), and the heat. Thanks to the heat, I slept less than 8 hours the entire time I was at bonnaroo, that really sucked.
So Im trying to decide between these to viable solutions.
1. Hotel Wednesday - Sunday + GA Ticket Pros: Cool & Quiet Room Clean Bed Hot Showers Free Breakfast Price (Roughly $550 for the hotel room)
Cons: Not being at bonnaroo the entire time Having to pile in to the god awful line every day The commute time Walking from day parking (Also BFGDE)
2. GA Ticket + RV Pass + Ultralight Rental Pros: Being there AC Price ($150 for RV Pass + $400 for the Trailer)
Cons: Needing a generator Gas for generator
QUESTIONS: Ive heard the line isn't bad friday (2 hours) and nonexistant saturday and sunday. Is this true? I've heard that if you day park, you can't enter til friday. Is this true?
My personal opinion on the matter is to go GA and then carry stuff to tent only. Just take a few things to stake out a spot Thurs morning, then take a cab up later in the day when they start running with a cooler and whatnot. As for sleeping I bring a tent, but honestly the best sleep I usually get under an ezup on a cot with appropriate side tarps to stop the morning sun. It will stay fairly cool until 10 or so enough to get 4-6 hours a day in.
I would never go the hotel route it just seems way to big of a pain to make up for the value, plus I think RV's and Hotels both make people a little too comfortable, and they tend to get lazy and skip a lot of show.

I did a hotel in 2005. It is really easy to get comfortable and skip shows (it especially was that year because it was kind of drizzly the whole weekend, so it was really tempting to stay in the warm, dry hotel room). That said, I don't remember the line or the commute being a terrible problem at all. We stayed at a hotel in Tullahoma. Don't remember which one. I'm pretty sure we went in on Thursday, but I couldn't swear to that.
All in all, I think a hotel is best suited for someone who is interested in going in during the day and getting out of there before the "night life" starts. For instance, my mom's friend takes her two kids every year, and staying in a hotel works for them because she likes to get out of the crowd and sleep at night.
I've never done an RV, but that always seemed like a nice way to go to me.
the big problem is that i want the late night stuff. Thats one of the big reasons im slowly but surely deciding against the hotel path, get done at 3am, im at my truck at 330, at the hotel around 4:15 maybe, take a quick shower, sleep till 9ish, eat breakfast, head back to the farm....seems a little expensive for 4.5 hours sleep a night
I did the hotel this year. I was staying in Murfreesboro, then going back and forth a half hour down 24. Because I sleep like crap anyway in heat and noisy situations, the hotel was worth it to me. Lows of 77 every night with humidity, and stuff going on till 6 am - I wouldn't have been too happy each morning. I just wish I could have stayed closer than Murfreesboro though.
The one bad thing is, as mentioned before, comfort sometimes backfires. Saturday, the first band I saw was Dead Weather at 6 pm. This worked ok in the end, seeing Isis a week later in Boston and downloading the Mumford set. But I was just sitting there, watching the World Cup game, then it started thunderstorming in Rutherford County - so I waited till afterwards to leave. You do miss a bit if you get too comfortable at the hotel, but if there's bad weather you have a place to hide out.
Yeah, having to go back and forth a half hour is a pain. Yeah, having to walk from day parking is a pain. It took me like 15 min to get to The Other Tent. Yeah, it's a few hundred bucks more. But I loved getting extra sleep in a climate controlled setting, a hot shower after a long day, all that fun stuff.
It is probably too late already, but I have heard that the KOA is really the best option for comfort. They have a pool, and a limo shuttle service that runs every 15 minutes, and drops you off at the guest camping entrance between the what and the which. I think you can even rent little villas down there. I am pretty sure you have to book about a year in advance however.
I can only speak from owning a RV. We have stayed in VIP with our RV and always had a enjoyable time hence the reason we keep coming back every year.
But....From sleeping in tents when we were in our 20's I think we would opt to stay in VIP in a tent vs renting a RV and staying in GA. Renting a RV can by quite pricey and some hasstle. VIP is so close to where all the stages are, air conditioned flush type toilets, showers before going to bed. I am always very impressed on peoples tent set up. Like a above posted said, a EZ up with sides and a cot. For ultimate comfort buy a Honda EU2000is and bring a couple of box fans and a light.
Good luck with your decision and let me know if you have any RV questions.

My cousin and I are renting that generator for next year. Sunbelt supplies here has one listed for around $115 a week. Much easier on the wallet than buying one for the sole purpose of Roo....

And what kind of generator is this? A loud "contractor" type?

I called KOA last year as I was driving out of the gates of the Farm to inquire about pricing etc, as I was SOOOO miserable from not sleeping the whole weekend for the heat. They told me that they start reservations after Jan 1st.
I hope this was legit info. (931) 728-9777 Good luck!
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
I do not think it is cheap, slightly more than VIP from what I have heard. You will need a GA ticket and about 5-600$ it is about the same as getting a hotel. Also I just called and there is awaiting list you should go ahead and sign up for if you want to do it.
I called earlier this morning about air conditioning and prices. The lady didn't mention anything about a waiting list, but did say that the kabins have AC.
The bad thing is, the little 1 room "kabin" I want is only like $58 per night right now. I would expect them to double prices. But still, it beats dropping $1400 on VIP Tickets, then having to sell one of them, or getting a hotel in murfeesboro and having to drive my tired ass to and fro every day.
But at this point, I have a lot of work I am going to have to do to my truck (New inner tie rods, wheel bearings, lower ball joints, brakes, and tires), that I may just go GA and sleep in my truck again, as bad as that sucked.
^Spend the money on a ezup, and get some tarps and clamps so you can strategically place the tarps against the sun. Get some astro turf for a carpet, and put a sleeping pad outside, and get earplugs. There is no reason you should not be able to sleep until 10 each day if you do this.

This + a cot, and you will be loving life and not tired (relatively speaking, of course)

I did fine with a thermarest last year. I have a cot but the sucker is a pain to haul around.
My parents have an ezup with screens that I can borrow. And, if I wasn't a fat kid, I would really want one of those protable hammocks. I think I may try sleeping under an ezup with a decent air mattress, and a mattress pad that draws heat away from your body and some good foam ear plugs and a sleeping mask.

I can't remember where, but somewhere is having a sale on air mattresses, and I assume other camping equipment, for Black Friday. It was a really good deal. I would get one if you are considering going this route. If I see it again I will post it, my memory is Leno.

I cannot STRESS how important an EZUP will be to you. I needed one last year and did not get one...The EZUP and earplugs are a must...I also bought 3 battery powered fans (the ones that take like 8 D batteries) and they will be a lifesaver as well. This will work in VIP or GA mate.

Is a kabin the same thing as a cabin?
Indeed, the derpish spelling wasn't my idea, KOA...Kabin
