I am a pretty big Dylan fan, one of those who really enjoys most of his live shows, but when I saw him in August it wasn't very good. There was very little energy from the band or the audience, which is very unfortunate because the time before that was the exact opposite. Maybe it was just an off night.
I'm gong to see him in Cedar Falls, IA on Oct 24. It'll be the 6th time I've seen him in the last 5 years. Pretty much any time he comes around here. His voice sounds awful but he's a legend so it doesn't matter (to me anyways). He mixes up his set list pretty good each night so you get different songs every time you see him. This time I hope to hear at least two of these songs: Beyond Here Lays Nothin', Cold Irons Bond, A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall, Shelter from the Storm and Maggie's Farm. Never heard him play those songs and he plays them fairly regularly on his tours.
I also hope he plays at Bonnaroo. Actually, that's how I found out about Bonnaroo in the first place. I heard a rumor in 2007 that he was going to headline this weird music festival called Bonnaroo. I knew I had to come. He ended up not being on the lineup but I was so pumped about attending Bonnaroo that I decided to attend anyways. The rest is history.
rick450, you're going to have a lot of fun. If you haven't yet, listen to some of his newer CDs to get a feel for what his voice sounds like so you aren't surprised. Also, he likes to change up his older songs. Sometimes I can't tell what he is playing but part way through the song I realize what it is and I'm like "Oh, that's what he's playing. I love this song!"

I saw him at Bumbershoot this year and thought he was only ok, but I skipped out after a bit to catch The Raveonettes. His singing voice was a little too unclear for me but my biggest problem was that I'm not very familiar with his catalogue. Something about that show sparked an interest in me though and I've been listening to him a lot more since and mostly enjoying it. My sister was with me at Bumber and now we swap Dylan songs we like. I'm going to download some of his albums but not really sure yet as to what the essentials are (and I do have The Essential Bob Dylan haha). I hope to get to know a lot more of his music, then hopefully catch him sometime in the coming years.
