Fudgemuppet likes it. that means something to me, he's a hardcore skyrim guy.
learned of many a skyrim mod from his videos. hopefully he find some gems once the starfield community gets going
the big unknown is how robust the mod community will be. like obviously skryim is my favorite game but it's my favorite game because of the incredible mod community. takes it from being a game i played a few times to a game i've played for over a decade.
of course to get a great modding community you need a great base game to begin with. we'll see!
postjack your two favorite games are Skyrim and No Man's Sky, right? Are you excited for Starfield?
My favorite game series are Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Civilization, and GTA. I've had a blast with NMS and recommend it to anyone who is intrigued by it, but I exhausted all the stuff to do in a few months. I'll still hop in from time to time but there are only so many ways to approach it and pretty quickly i'll hit the "what's the point" wall and quit again. Lot of people say NMS is a massive ocean that's only a few feet deep (not unlike most of the actual oceans in NMS) and I agree. Like once I max out my ship, multitool, exosuit, etc., and have seen a bunch of planets, which vary in small ways but essentially there are like six types, I don't have any motivation to do anything else.
But yeah I'm excited for Starfield. Keeping my expectations in check because I know Bethesda, I don't think it will be a fully realized and bug-free experience come Sep 6. But if they stick with it and eventually over time begin to deliver on what the game promises it could be a massive thing for me.
I picked No Man's Sky up again to help stop me from kicking rocks until BG3, and yeah it just hits a wall. fighting the sentinels in space was fun the first couple of times but it's just terribly un fun when youre not looking to fight and they just won't stop. trying to get a little further in the story and I just had to stop because its just the same thing over and over, without the sort of satisfaction of really getting your hands dirty or being able to restart and take a new path or something.
I do think it would be better on PS or PC instead of switch though, just a lot of loading and not being able to really keep up with the bigger bases or ships graphically.
"Lot of people say NMS is a massive ocean that's only a few feet deep (not unlike most of the actual oceans in NMS)" ....this is a good burn
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
on the plus side PS5 BG3 has been secured. T minus 5 days :flex:
Ayyyeee LFG. I’m in the same boat. Still have no idea which character I’m going to pick. The more I look into it, the harder the selection becomes. It’s my first DD/ or tabletop style rpg. So very pumped, also this will take the sting off of not being able to play starfield (which I’ve watched 3 review videos on now even though I don’t have an Xbox lol)

The correct answer is a bard. Or Karlach.
I'm really hoping to recreate my character from the Inforoo D&D campaign - a Dragonborn Paladin/Warlock multi-class. I'm a little concerned that I might be nerfing myself in the long run by multi classing given the level cap, but it's been fun to play tabletop, and is a bit of a departure from my usual magical rogue-type character.

Last night's Starfield season left enough of an impression that I had multiple dreams about it. It's definitely not perfect but it's absolutely something special.

i only got to play for about 45 minutes but it felt good. no dreams but been thinking about it all day at work.

yeah when I loaded the game up this afternoon it said my save file was already 7 hours after just last night lol
That and bard were my top two options after researching classes
Warlocks are awesome for role playing in an actual game with your friends and they have one of the best cantrips in the entire game. But I don’t know if I’d recommend it for a new player that’s wanting to be a caster in BG3. They have limited spell slots and limited spells they can learn. Although they get their 2 slots back on a short rest. It’s still a little harder to manage.
You can, of course, make up for that with Gale in your party as the classic utility caster and you be all Eldritch horror, tentacle spells and blasting.
I’d probably multiclass Sorcerer/Warlock at the very least.

You can.
I restarted my game with a new character, so I went from a githyanki barbarian to a half elf monk. I chose completely different choices and got new paths and choices which made it a different game but GODDAMN, a monk is fucking fun. I am further than I got on my first run through and have no regrets restarting. Best game this year for me.

About 18 hours in now, been role playing as a sort of intergalactic boy scout. Always picking the nicest dialogue option, gonna yes man my way up the ladder in every faction I can. Haven't killed anyone who didn't deserve it either.

ok so i finished this, might be the worst ending to a game ive ever played jfc. the end gives you two options keep going or start over.
played a ton of Starfield this weekend. TLDR i think it's an instant classic for role players, or anyone who loves Bethesda games. bottom line is it's just super, duper fun. i am having a blast on my character, basically a simple soldier type who prefers pistols and generally does the "right" thing. i've done some faction jobs and side missions but have mostly focused on the MQ because i'm genuinely interested in the story/lore and just wanted to know what the hell was going on, and i like all the NPCs in the MQ faction (in fact i married one of them and am on my honeymoon on a resort planet right now). but a nice thing about the MQ is there are several points where there is no urgency to continue, it's not like Skyrim where you are constantly pushed in an RPG sense to move forward with the MQ because otherwise the world will end. i believe i am almost done with the MQ and am slowing down on it to work through some faction quests.
the combat is super fun. i'm playing on normal difficulty, i've invested in some combat perks and it's a nice challenge for me but not frustrating. i'm not an FPS guy and prefer combat on the easier side. gravity introduces some fun combat elements, like on certain planets there is less gravity so you can use your boost pack to leap high in the air and just blast fools. i'm just getting into space combat but it's also fun, upgrading your ship for better mobility and firepower.
and ship building, i'm just getting into that and loving it. the build system is overwhelming at first, but i watched a couple youtube videos and it clicked. your ship isn't just for travelling and space battles, it's also your home, and it's super fun to make it not just practical but also a pleasant place to spend your time in space. and it's so cool to see your ship in cutscenes exactly how you designed it. there are limitations but plenty of space to create something as absurd looking or as cool looking as you want.
i haven't broken the economy yet. certain ammo is tough to come by in the wild, so you do have to stock up at vendors, which in and of itself creates a nice balance and keeps up the urgency to keep making money. you don't have a ton of carrying capacity, but instead of slowing you down when you are overburdened instead you use up oxygen when you run and can't fast travel. still a limitation but it's at least doable to collect a bunch of enemy loot and make it back to your ship where you can fast travel to a port and unload.
the perk system seems really cool and i've barely explored all the options, so many ways to build a character. one really nice touch is that in addition to needing a perk point to advance a skill, you also have to complete an achievement to advance, i.e. kill 20 enemies with a pistol, or unlock 10 locks, or use boots jump 10 times in combat etc.
the sound and music is incredible. the voice acting is leagues above Skyrim, but don't worry, there are some familiar voice actors.
the game is absolutely massive. four main cities i think and many smaller ones. tons and tons of voice unique NPCs and it feels like they all have a quest for me. i haven't done any outpost building and i've done very little surveying. i understand surveying is a great way to earn XP, but coming from NMS i've already done a ton of surveying so i'm not super interested in that right now. i have done zero crafting.
so far it's been remarkably bug free. i've encountered no game breaking bugs, nor any bugs at all that are annoying. i have encountered a handful of absurd bethesda bugs but those are part of the fun. for example, right after I got engaged a few NPC bodies plummeted from the building above us, dying on impact. none of the NPCs sitting around drinking coffee acknowledged this NPC suicide. also not really a bug but my now wife proposed to me between firefights in an abandoned science lab. like we just killed a bunch of pirates and were about to breach another room and she's like "hey can we talk for a minute" and then we professed our love for each other.
i'm playing a good guy now but am excited to play a scoundrel on my next playthrough. but i don't feel that urge to reroll, i'm still on my OG character and loving developing him.
it's basically a deeper and more complex Fallout in space. two big thumbs up from me.
